  • Five people, including Bangladesh‘s vaccine scientist  Firdausi Qadri and Pakistan ‘s economist Mohammad Amjad Saqib , have been chosen this year for the Raman Magsaysay Award , considered Asia’s Nobel Prize . In addition to Dr. Firdousi and Saqib, the list includes fish and community environmentalist Roberto Ballon from the Philippines , Steven Mansi, a US citizen working in the field of humanitarian work and refugee aid, and Indonesian investigative journalist WatchDoc.Are included. The winners will be formally honored with the Magsaysay Award during a November 28 event at the Ramon Magsaysay Center in Manila. List of awardees of Ramon Magsaysay Award 2021:
  1. Muhammad Amjad Saqib: A visionary who founded one of the largest microfinance institutions in Pakistan and served millions of families.
  2. Firdausi Qadri: A Bangladeshi scientist who has been instrumental in the discovery of vaccines that have saved millions of lives.
  3. Steven Muncie: A humanitarian helping displaced refugees from Southeast Asia rebuild their lives.
  4. WatchDoc: A production house that effortlessly combines documentary filmmaking and alternative platforms to highlight underreported issues in Indonesia.
  5. Roberto Ballon: Fisheries and community environmentalist from the southern Philippines who has led a community in restoring its rich aquatic resources and primary source of livelihood.

2. Taliban announces Mullah Hibatullah Akhundzada as its supreme leader to lead government in Afghanistan

  1. Committee constituted to review the existing guidelines related to Journalist Welfare Scheme
  • The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has constituted a committee to review the existing guidelines related to the Journalists Welfare Scheme . This 12-member committee will look into the need for amendment in the payment of ex-gratia in the death of a journalist and other matters. The committee will also look into the issue of discrepancies in getting benefits of the schemes to the recognized and unrecognized journalists. The committee has also been asked to review the Occupational, Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code-2020 for Journalists. This committee will submit its report in two months. Ashok Kumar Tandon , member of Prasar Bharati BoardThe committee constituted under the chairmanship of Nine members from print and electronic media. Additional Director General of Press Information Office will also be its member. The Director (IP) in the ministry will be the convener of the committee.
  1. Ministry of AYUSH launches campaign for distribution of AYUSH prophylactic drugs and written guidelines on diet and lifestyle

  • In the presence of Shri Rajiv Ranjan Mishra, Director General, National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) , Shri Hitesh Vaidya, Director, National Institute of Urban Affairs (NIUA) and Dr. Vishwajit Roy Chowdhury, President, South Asian Institute for Advanced Research and Development (SAIARD) , NMCG inaugurated SAIARD. signed a memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the objective to develop to create educational forum and research and capacity building center is to promote the development activities in the eastern region. Both NMCG and SAIARD will work on geospatial technology in riverine ecosystems for capacity building in integrated river bed management. With the signing of this MoU, SAIARD will be considered as the Regional Capacity Building Center for NMCG in the Eastern Region.

  • India-Kazakhstan joint military exercise ” KAZIND-21 ” began at Training Node Ayesha Bibi The exercise is the 5th edition of the annual bilateral joint exercise by the armies of the two countries and will continue till 10 September 2021. The fourth edition of the exercise was conducted in September 2019 in Pithoragarh, India. This exercise will give impetus to the ever-increasing military and diplomatic relations between the two countries.
  1. NHPC completes renovation and modernization of 180 MW Baira Seul Power Station in Himachal
  • National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) Limited has indigenously refurbished and modernized its 180 MW Baira Seul Power Station . Commercial operations have started at the plant. The project in Himachal Pradesh ‘s Chamba district is located. Baira Seul Power Station is the first power station of NHPC which is having commercial operation from 1st April, 1982. It has completed a useful life of 35 years. Renovation and modernization of all its three units have been successfully completed. Now the life of Baira Seul Power Station has increased by another 25 years.

  • Axis Bank has partnered with BharatPe to launch a point of sale (PoS) scheme for BharatPe named BharatSwipe.Partnered for business. Under this partnership, Axis Bank will be the bank to acquire BharatSwipe and offer credit and debit card acceptance for BharatPe-affiliated merchants. This partnership will help BharatPe expand its merchant acquisition business in India. BharatPe’s PoS machine BharatSwipe has an installed base of 100,000 across 16 cities, processing around Rs 1,400 crore per month. BharatPe saw an annual transaction value of $2 billion at PoS terminals at the end of FY21. The company has set a target of $6 billion in transaction processed value (TPV) by FY 2022.
  1. Morgan Stanley retains India’s GDP growth forecast for FY22 at 10.5%
  • US-based investment bank, Morgan Stanley has maintained India’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth rate at 5 per cent for the fiscal year 2021-22 (FY2022) . GDP growth is expected to move into positive territory on a two-year CAGR basis from the September quarter. GDP grew by 20.1 per cent year-on-year in the quarter ended June. On a two-year CAGR basis, real GDP QE contracted by 4.7 per cent in June and QE at plus 2.3 per cent in March.
