1.’Moderate’ earthquake shakes Haryana, Delhi :-

A magnitude 5 earthquake shook Haryana and Delhi early on Friday. The epicentre of the quake was located at Rohtak, Haryana and rooted 22km inside the earth, according to the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) earthquake monitoring service. The earthquake struck at 4.25 am and tremors were distinctly perceived. it was termed as ‘moderate’ on the IMD’s scale. There aren’t any reports of damage or casualty yet.

Delhi and parts of north India are known to be part of a zone prone to high impact quakes.

3.Trump pulls US out of Paris pact, blames India and China :-

The Paris Climate agreement gives undue advantage to India and China at the cost of U.S interests, President Donald Trump said on Thursday, announcing America’s withdrawal from the pact.

4.Haryana: Nod to upgrade 122 schools, distance norm relaxed for 79 :-

Faced with student protests in several districts seeking upgradation of schools, the Haryana government has given its nod to upgrade 122 schools. In case of 79 out of these 122 schools, rules regarding distance have been relaxed.

Over the past few weeks, girl students in several districts demanded that their schools be upgraded.On Thursday, Education Minister Ram Bilas Sharma said the chief minister had given his approval for relaxation in the rules for as many as 79 schools.

 

5. Rahul Gandhi arrives to a rousing welcome in Hyderabad 

All India Congress Committee vice president Rahul Gandhi arrived to a rousing reception from the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) leadership, ahead of the Chalo Sangareddy public meeting on Thursday afternoon.

Considering the Special Protection Group security cover, only those with special passes were allowed into the airport.

Even then, unlike earlier occasions, mediapersons were denied entry into the complex, what with the City police assisting the SPG with heavy bandobust.

6.Haryana: Govt renames HUDA to ‘avoid confusion’ with Hooda :-

The BJP government in Haryana has changed the name of Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) because of the similarity of its name with that of former CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda, a senior Congress leader.

The authority was called Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran in Hindi and Haryana Urban Development Authority in English. Now the government has decided to call it Haryana Sahari Vikash Pradhikaran in Hindi as well as English.

7.Sensex ends flat in cautious trade :-

Benchmark Sensex remained range-bound in choppy trade on Thursday, ending a shade lower at 31,137.59 as investors preferred to stay light amid disappointing growth numbers.

The 30-share index shed 8.21 points, or 0.03 %, to end at 31,137.59 after shuttling between 31,213.12 and 31,062.02.

The NSE Nifty too finished 5.15 points, or 0.05 % down at 9,616.10 after slipping below the 9,600—mark to touch a low of 9,589.90.

 

8.New York leadership to honour Paris Accord with executive orders :-

Terming US President Donald Trump’s decision to withdraw from the Paris Agreement as “immoral” and “reckless”, New York’s top leadership said it will honour the commitments of the climate pact through executive orders.

In response to Trump’s decision, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, California Governor Edmund Brown Jr and Washington State Governor Jay Inslee announced the formation of the ‘United States Climate Alliance’, a coalition that will convene US states committed to upholding the Paris Climate Agreement and taking aggressive action on climate change.

9.Pakistan summons Indian Deputy High Commissioner over LoC firing :-

Pakistan Foreign Office on Thursday summoned Deputy Indian High Commissioner J.P. Singh and lodged a protest over ceasefire violation along Line of Control.

“The Director General South Asis & SAARC Dr. Mohammad Faisal, summoned the Indian Deputy High Commissioner, Mr. J.P. Singh and condemned the unprovoked ceasefire violations by the Indian occupation forces on 1 June, 2017 at 0715 hours, on the LoC in Battal, Jandrot and Kotli sectors, resulting in the shahadat of 1 civilian, Mr. Ghizar Ahmed and injuries to 4 others including 3 women (Mr. Jamil Akmal, Mst. Sana, Mst. Asma, Mst. Fareha) in Battal sector and shahadat of 1 civilian, Mr. Fazal Hussain and injury to one other, Mr. Jamil Ahmed in Kotli sector,” an official statement said.

10.Arun Jaitley plays down demonetisation impact on growth :-

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Thursday played down the impact on economic growth of the government’s decision last November to scrap most of the cash in circulation, saying the annual rate of growth was “very reasonable”.

“Through demonetisation, the government created a new normal, with a big step in removing the earlier scenario of cash economy and shadow economy,” Mr. Jaitley said at a press conference on India’s growth figures.

11.ITC bets big on FMCG, targets 1,00,000 crore :-

Diversified consumer company ITC Ltd. is gearing up to achieve an ambitious target of growing its FMCG (fast-moving consumer goods) business 10-fold to ₹1,00,000 crore by 2030, CEO and Executive Director Sanjiv Puri said.

He was interacting with The Hindu Group’s journalists here on Thursday.

“In the last decade (1996-2017), the story of the firm has been one of transformation through forays into FMCG besides strengthening its hotels and paper business,’’ he said. In that period, the firm’s overall turnover grew 11-fold to ₹55,002 crore. The market capitalisation also increased 65-fold to ₹3.8 lakh crore (as on May 29), he pointed out.

12.Afghanistan cancels T20 matches with Pakistan after Kabul attack :-

Afghanistan have cancelled proposed home and away cricket fixtures with Pakistan after a deadly bomb attack blamed by the country’s intelligence agency on militants allegedly backed by Islamabad.

Pakistan were set to play their first Twenty20 match in Kabul later this year in what was seen as an opportunity for the neighbours to ease tensions over border skirmishes and alleged proxy warfare.
