1.Narendra Modi to visit U.S. later this month: State Dept :-

The U.S. is looking forward to host Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Washington later this month, the State Department has said.

“We look forward to having the (Indian) Prime Minister here in Washington— I believe it’s later this month,” State Department Spokesperson Heather Nauert told reporters at her daily news conference on Thursday.

 

2.Exit poll prediction shocks U.K. :-

British Prime Minister Theresa May’s hope of gaining validation of her party’s Brexit strategy at the ballot box looked in tatters on Thursday night, as the result of an exit poll suggested that the Conservatives would win with 12 seats short of the number they’d need to form a majority government.

It would also mark one of the most dramatic shift in the polls, and, given that the Conservative campaign was pegged closely around Ms. May personally, would put the future of her leadership at stake.

3.ID proof a must to book flight ticket :-

In a few months, you will no longer be able to book a flight ticket without submitting an ID proof such as Aadhaar, passport or PAN, Minister of State for Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha said on Thursday.

“We are going to move towards a regime where we will require either passport, Aadhaar or PAN, or some other identification measure to be linked to your PNR number so that we can uniquely identify you during the journey,” he said.

 

4.Guideline value cut by 33% in T.N. :-

The Tamil Nadu government on Thursday announced that the guideline value for registration of sale deed of properties across the State would be reduced by 33% effective from June 9.

In an attempt to bridge the loss in revenue due to this move, the State government has hiked the registration fee for conveyance (sale), exchange, gift and settlement of properties to non-family members to 4% with effect from June 9. The existing registration fee was only 1%.

 

5.Modi, Kazakh President discuss ways to expand ties :-

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday called on Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev here and discussed ways to expand ties between the two nations.

Mr. Modi met Mr. Nazarbayev soon after arriving in Astana on a two-day visit. He will attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit where India and Pakistan will be inducted as full members.

“Mr. Nursultan Nazarbayev, President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, met PM @narendramodi and discussed ways to expand bilateral ties,” the Prime Minister’s Office tweeted.

 

6.Polls predict Tory win as U.K. votes :-

Britain headed to the polls on Thursday, in an election in which turnout, particularly among the young, could play an important role in shaping the outcome.

While polls still suggest a Conservative victory, their lead has narrowed sharply in recent weeks, putting at stake the validation of the government’s Brexit strategy that Prime Minister Theresa May had hoped to secure at the ballot box by further increasing her government’s majority.

 

7.Rohan Bopanna wins French Open mixed doubles title to clinch maiden Grand Slam :-

Indian tennis ace Rohan Bopanna and Canadian partner Gabriela Dabrowski produced a fighting performance to beat their German-Colombian opponents Anna-Lena Groenefeld and Robert Farah in the final to clinch their maiden French Open mixed doubles title in Paris, France.

Seeded seventh, Bopanna and Dabrowski took an hour and six minutes to win, saving two match points, as they overcame the unseeded Groenefeld and Farah 2-6, 6-2, 12-10 on Philippe-Chatrier Court.

 

8.$1 mn fund to bolster BRICS media :-

The Brazil-Russia-India-China-South Africa (BRICS) grouping has signalled its intent to expand its footprint in the global media space.

During an inaugural session of the BRICS Media Forum in the Chinese capital, Cai Mingzhao, president of Xinhua News Agency and executive president of the Forum, announced that the news agency will invest $1 million for boosting media cooperation in the five-nation grouping.

 

9.Sri Lanka coasts to an easy win over India :

 

This may be a team in transition but a timid one, it is not. Sri Lanka pulled off a sensational seven-wicket victory over India in the ICC Champions Trophy here on Thursday, defying the odds with a splendid batting performance at the Oval. After India, the defending champion and the overwhelming favourite here, had made 321 — due in no small part to a hundred from Shikhar Dhawan — Sri Lanka hit back.

 

10.SC to pronounce order on Aadhaar card requirements for filing IT return :-

The Supreme Court on Friday will pronounce its order on mandatory requirements of Aadhaar card for filing income tax returns.

Making amendments in the Finance Bill earlier, the government had proposed to make Aadhar card mandatory for filing income tax return and applying for permanent account number (PAN) while saying the new rule will come into effect on July 1.

 

11.Narendra Modi and Nawaz Sharif meet after 17 months :-

More than 17 months after Prime Minister Narendra Modi  met Pakistan’s PM Nawaz Sharif in Lahore, the two met in the leaders’ lounge at the opera house here, where they exchanged greetings. This was their fifth meeting although there were no details about any substantive talks.

Sources said that since it was the first occasion when the two leaders came across each other after Sharif’s surgery, Modi enquired about his health. “He also enquired about Sharif’s mother and his family”.

In May last year, Sharif and Modi had spoken before the Pakistan PM was wheeled in for cardiac surgery in London. Later, in July, Modi telephoned Sharif to wish him for Eid and a speedy recovery from surgery.
