1 A new path of green revolution will open from Assam, PM Modi will dedicate bamboo biorefinery

Taking a historic step in India’s green energy sector , PM Modi will dedicate to the nation the country’s first bamboo-based biorefinery project set up at Numaligarh in Golaghat district of Assam on 14 September 2025. This project is not only a revolutionary initiative towards energy self-sufficiency but will also pave the way to make Northeast India a hub of green industrial transformation. With an investment of over Rs 1700 crore and developed in collaboration with Finland’s Chempolis Oy, this project of Nu Maligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) will process three lakh metric tonnes of bamboo per year . Through this, ethanol, furfural and acetic acid will be produced. This refinery will provide a sustainable source of income to farmers and entrepreneurs, promote rural livelihoods and contribute significantly to India’s target of 20% ethanol blending by 2030.

India and Israel signed a mutual investment agreement in New Delhi . Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Israel’s Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich signed the agreement. The agreement is expected to boost trade and mutual investment by promoting investment, providing greater protection to investors, ensuring an independent dispute resolution mechanism through arbitration. It also includes provisions for protecting investments from confiscation, ensuring transparency and smooth transfer and compensation for losses.
3 United Arab Emirates: 28th Universal Postal Congress begins in Dubai

The 28th Universal Postal Congress , the body responsible for taking important decisions of the Universal Postal Union (UPU), began in Dubai on Sunday . More than two thousand delegations from 192 member countries gathered in this conference to outline the future of global postal services. Held for the first time at the Dubai World Trade Center in the United Arab Emirates , this conference will continue till September 19. Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya M Scindia represented India. This is a reflection of India’s long-term commitment to the Universal Postal Congress. India has been a member of it since 1874 .

Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and Minister of State for Education, Shri Jayant Chaudhary addressed the International Literacy Day (ILD) 2025 celebrations organised by the Department of School Education and Literacy (DoSEL), Ministry of Education , at Dr. Ambedkar International Centre, New Delhi . International Literacy Day is celebrated every year on 8 September . The theme of this year’s celebration was “ Promoting Literacy in the Digital Age ”, which highlighted the critical role of digital technology in enabling reading, writing, numeracy and lifelong learning skills across the country. Himachal Pradesh has become the fourth state to achieve full functional literacy , joining Tripura, Mizoram and Goa in this significant feat. On June 24, 2024, Ladakh was declared the first Union Territory to become fully literate .
5 ‘DialogueNext’ conference organized in New Delhi on global food security

A two-day ‘ DialogueNext ‘ conference on global food security was organized at the Indian Council of Agricultural Research Convention Center in New Delhi from 8-9 September 2025. On the first day of the conference, senior policy makers and experts from across the country brainstormed deeply on ensuring global food security. The objective of this two-day high-level program is to discover and accelerate important innovations to secure the world’s food future. The conference has been organized by the World Food Prize Foundation in partnership with CIMMIT , Borlaug Institute for South Asia (BISA) and Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) . This year too, the theme of the conference is farmer-oriented, in line with DialogueNext held in Mexico last year . The theme of DialogueNext this year is – ” Take it to the farmer “. Through this conference, efforts will be made to ensure the reach of transformative agricultural solutions to farmers in the global south. DialogueNext in India is the second part of a three-part global series reviving the legacy of Dr. Norman Borlaug, father of the Green Revolution and Nobel Peace Prize winner. This dialogue will provide momentum towards the Norman E. Borlaug International Dialogue to be held on October 21-23, 2025 in Des Moines, Iowa .

Over the past decade, India has emerged as one of the world’s fastest growing bio-economies . From US$ 10 billion in 2014, it is now projected to reach US$ 165.7 billion in 2024, contributing 4.25% to the national gross domestic product (GDP) of US$ 3.89 trillion . With an ambitious target of US$ 300 billion by 2030 , the bio-economy is becoming a strong pillar of India’s sustainable growth and innovation journey, driven by advances in biotechnology, agricultural innovation, bio-manufacturing, and healthcare. The bio-economy is home to four major sub-sectors – bio-industrial (47%), bio-pharma (35%), bio-agriculture (8%), and bio-research (9%) . Achieved the target of 20% ethanol blending in 2025 , 5 -years ahead of schedule , increasing farmers’ income and foreign exchange savings. At the same time, India is a global vaccine hub , with Serum Institute’s share increasing to 24% in 2024. The bioeconomy produces food, energy and industrial goods using renewable resources such as plants, animals and microorganisms . It helps reduce emissions, reduce dependence on fossil fuels and promote sustainability. With innovative technologies such as gene-editing and bioprinting, the bioeconomy is developing solutions that prioritize protecting the earth as well as advancing economic growth and human well-being.

In January 2025, India launched the National Critical Mineral Mission (NCMM) , a seven-year mission from 2024-25 to 2030-31 , with a proposed expenditure of Rs 16,300 crore and expected investment of Rs 18,000 crore by public sector undertakings (PSUs) and other stakeholders. It is not just a mining programme but a strategic plan to strengthen energy security, industrial development and technological independence . The NCMM aims to secure 1,000 patents by 2030 with 7 centres of excellence set up to drive breakthroughs in exploration and extraction. Under the NCMM, an incentive scheme of ₹1,500 crore has been approved to promote recycling potential for critical minerals. Critical minerals are those that are essential for economic growth and national security. They are indispensable for clean energy technologies, high-tech electronics, transportation, telecommunications and defence. These are also critical to power the global transition to a low-carbon economy. There are also supply chain gaps for these minerals, so it is essential for governments to secure the supply chain of these minerals. Countries identify minerals critical to them based on their national priorities. In 2023, the Ministry of Mines released a list of 30 critical minerals for India. These minerals are- antimony, beryllium, bismuth, cobalt, copper, gallium, germanium, graphite, hafnium, indium, lithium, molybdenum, niobium, nickel, PGE, phosphorus, potash, REE, rhenium, silicon, strontium, tantalum, tellurium, tin, titanium, tungsten, vanadium, zirconium, selenium and cadmium.
8 Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak resigned amid violent protests in Nepal, curfew imposed in many cities

After the situation worsened in Nepal on Monday , Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak resigned . For the first time in twenty years, such a big protest has been seen in Nepal, in which 19 people have died so far . The Home Minister submitted his resignation to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli at his official residence during an emergency cabinet meeting. Protests against corruption and the social media ban imposed by the government suddenly turned violent across the country. 17 people died in the capital Kathmandu alone, while two more people lost their lives in Ithari town of Sunsari district. Due to the increasing tension, the government ordered curfew in many parts and a ban on gatherings.

The Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) under the aegis of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW) is launching “ Bistirna Parore: A Musical Journey from Sadiya to Dhubri ” at Guijan, Dibrugarh on Monday to mark the birth centenary of Bharat Ratna Dr Bhupen Hazarika . Named after one of the most famous compositions of Dr Hazarika, this unique cultural journey will cover the stretch of the Brahmaputra river and bring communities together through music and celebration. Dr Hazarika was awarded India’s highest civilian honour, the Bharat Ratna , in 2019.
10 17th Asia Cup Cricket starts in UAE

The 17th Asia Cup cricket tournament is starting in the United Arab Emirates . In the first match of this tournament , Afghanistan and Hong Kong will face each other in Group B at Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. India’s first match will be played in Group A at Dubai International Cricket Stadium in host United Arab Emirates. Group A has India, Pakistan, United Arab Emirates and Oman and Group B has Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Hong Kong. India’s last group stage match will be against Oman on 19 September. The Super Four stage of the tournament will start from 20 September. The top two teams of both the groups will play 3-3 matches to make it to the title match to be held on 28 September.
11 CAFA Nations Cup Football: India beat Oman to win bronze medal

India won the bronze medal in the CAFA Nations Cup Football Tournament-2025 by defeating Oman at Hisor Central Stadium in Tajikistan . The match was tied 1-1 after regulation time after Udanta Singh scored the equaliser for India. Oman missed their first two chances in the penalty shootout and Gurpreet Singh Sandhu saved the last penalty to give India a 3-2 win. This was the first time India defeated Oman in an international football match.

The theme this year was ” Family: Centre of Care. ” Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) is a rare and progressive disease that causes gradual muscle weakness . It mainly affects children and gradually affects mobility, breathing and heart function.
