1 After the Pahalgam terrorist attack, mock drill will be conducted across the country on May 7, strict instructions from the central government

 After the terrorist attack  in  Pahalgam ,  Jammu  and Kashmir on  April 22,  the central government has taken a big decision to strengthen the security system of the country. The Home Ministry has directed many states of the country to organize a comprehensive  civil defense mock drill on  May 7.   This mock drill will take place simultaneously across the country and its purpose is  to prepare citizens in a possible terrorist attack or war-like situation  . This mock drill will include many important activities, such as sounding the air raid warning siren so that people can be warned of the attack. Citizens and students will be taught how to keep themselves safe in case of an attack. Along with this, a ‘crash blackout’ will also be arranged, in which the lights of cities and buildings will be turned off to avoid enemy surveillance or air attack.

2 The 72nd edition of the Miss World pageant will be held in Telangana from May 10 to 31

The 72nd edition  of  the Miss World pageant  will be held in Telangana from May 10  to  31.  Contestants from across the world have started arriving in Hyderabad to take part in the pageant. Emma Deanna Catherine Morrison from Canada and Jessica Scandiuzi Pedroso from Brazil were given a traditional welcome at the Hyderabad International Airport. The Telangana government has chalked out an action plan to promote the state’s global brand image and attract investments through the pageant. The Miss World contestants will visit major tourist spots across the state. The event will be attended by contestants and guests from 120 participating countries.

3 Prime Minister Ujjwala Yojana has completed 9 years, more than 10 crore families have benefited: Hardeep Singh Puri

In 9 years  , Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala  Yojana  (PMUY)  has achieved great success in the field of  women empowerment and providing clean fuel across the country  . Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri  said on Monday that  more than 10.33 crore families have benefited from this scheme so far  and LPG cylinders have been refilled more than 238 crore times. It is worth noting that this scheme  was launched  on  1 May 2016 from Ballia district of Uttar Pradesh  under the leadership of  Prime Minister Narendra Modi  . Its objective was to provide free LPG connection to women of poor and deprived families, so that they can get rid of traditional polluting fuels like wood, coal, cow dung etc.

4 INS Sharda arrives at Maafilafushi, Maldives for (HADR) exercise

 In line with India’s commitment to  regional cooperation , INS Sharda  arrived at  Maafilafushi Atoll, Maldives  for  Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) exercise  , planned from 4 to 10 May 2025.  This deployment is testimony to the strong defence and maritime cooperation between India and Maldives. It is in line with India’s “OCEAN” (Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Development in the Regions) vision, which emphasises on collaborative efforts to ensure peace, stability and prosperity in the Indian Ocean Region. This HADR exercise aims to enhance interoperability between the Indian Navy and the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF).

5 Archery World Cup 2025 begins in Shanghai, China

 Archery World Cup 2025 is starting  in Shanghai, China . Jyothi Surekha Vennam  and  Deepika Kumari  will lead the Indian challenge in this competition. The Indian team of 8 men and 8 women archers will participate in compound and recurve events in the competition which will run till the 11th of this month.

6 Table Tennis: Ankur Bhattacharya and Abhinandan Pradhawadhi won the Under-19 Men’s Doubles title at WTT Youth Star Contender

 In table tennis ,  Indian players Ankur Bhattacharya  and  Abhinandan Pradhawadhi  won   the  Under-19 men’s doubles title at the WTT Youth Star Contender  in  Bangkok . They defeated Korea’s Lee Jungmok  and  Choi Jiwook  3-1 in the final. In the Under-19 women’s doubles, India’s  Cinderella Das and Divyanshi Bhowmik  reached the final. They defeated strong pairs from China and Korea.

7 China won Sudirman Cup 2025

Badminton  superpower  China  won  the BWF Sudirman Cup for the fourth consecutive time by defeating South Korea 3-1   in the final of  the 19th edition  of  the Sudirman Cup 2025. This was the 14th title win of the Chinese team in the history of the Sudirman Cup.  Only three countriesChina, Indonesia and South Korea,  have won the Sudirman Cup so far.  The Indian team failed to qualify for the quarter-finals  and finished 9th among the 16 teams participating in the competition. The Sudirman Cup is a biennial mixed team badminton competition organised by the Badminton World Federation (BWF). China hosted the 19th edition of the Sudirman Cup Finals in Xiamen from 27 April to 4 May 2025.

8 Goa qualifies for AFC Champions League 2 by winning Kalinga Super Cup

FC Goa won the 5th edition of  the 2025 Kalinga Super Cup football competition by defeating Jamshedpur FC  3–0  in   the final  . FC Goa have also qualified for the playoff stages of next season’s Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Champions League 2 with this victory  . If FC Goa fails to win that playoff game, they will play in the AFC Challenge League. The final of the Kalinga Super Cup 2025 was played on 3 May 2025 at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, the capital of Odisha. The name of the competition is Super Cup, but since the Odisha government sponsors it, it is known as the Kalinga Super Cup from the 2024 edition onwards. It is held at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.
