4 Government target: Oilseed production of 69.7 million tonnes by 2031, preparation for self-sufficiency in edible oils

The government on Monday announced its  goal of increasing oilseed production in the country  to 69.7 million tonnes by 2030-31 to achieve self-sufficiency in edible oils.  According to the NITI Aayog  ‘s  August 2024  report, India ranks first in the world in the production of several oilseed products, such as rice bran oil, castor oil, safflower oil, sesame oil, and niger oil.
