1 Austrian hydrologist Günter Blöschl wins the 2025 Stockholm Water Prize
In March 2025, renowned Austrian hydrologist Günter Blöschl has been named by the Prize Committee as the recipient of the Stockholm Water Prize for the year 2025. He won the award for his world-renowned work on flood risk reduction, water resources management, flood measurement and regional process hydrology. He will be officially presented the award by His Majesty (HM) King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden during World Water Week (WWW), celebrated annually in the month of August at Stockholm City Hall in Sweden .
2 Veteran Indian actor and Padma award winner Chiranjeevi honoured with Lifetime Achievement Award at UK Parliament
In March 2025, veteran Indian actor and Padma award winner, Konidela (K) Chiranjeevi was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award for Excellence in Public Service through Cultural Leadership from Bridge India during a ceremony held at the United Kingdom (UK) Parliament, known as the House of the Commons, in London, UK. The event was organised by British-Indian Member of Parliament (MP), Navendu Mishra . He was awarded the Padma Bhushan, India’s third highest civilian award in 2006 in the category of ‘Arts’.
3 Indian fintech firm Lendbox beats giants Aditya Birla and Titan to become Asia-Pacific’s fastest growing company
In March 2025 , United Kingdom (UK) -based Financial Times (FT) and Germany-based Statista jointly released their 7th annual ranking of 500 high-growth Asia-Pacific companies . New Delhi (Delhi)-based peer-to-peer (P2P) non-banking financial company (NBFC), Lendbox has topped the latest ranking and recorded a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 536.64% , with its revenue growing to USD 51.13 million in 2023. A total of 81 Indian firms made it to the list this year. According to the report, Malaysia-based Borong and Philippines-based Eatly secured the second and third spots, respectively.
In March 2025 , the Mumbai (Maharashtra) based Reserve Bank of India (RBI) published a paper titled ‘ Changing Dynamics of Remittances to India: Insights from the 6th Round of India Remittance Survey’ in its monthly bulletin . According to the results of the 6th Round of India Remittance Survey, India’s inward remittance pattern has gradually changed as advanced economies (AEs) have replaced Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries as the major source of remittances to India . Remittances from the United States and the United Kingdom almost doubled to 40% of the total remittances coming to India through banks in the last fiscal year (FY24). This number was 26% in FY17. In FY17, only 3% of remittances to India were from the UK. In the year 2023-24, the US led with 27.7%, followed by the United Arab Emirates (USA) at the second spot with 19.2%. Developed economies, including Britain, Singapore, Canada and Australia, contributed more than 50%.
5 BPCL signs quadripartite MoU with Bluejay Aerospace, ANERT and CIAL to launch world’s first hydrogen-powered VTOL aviation ecosystem
In March 2025, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) , a Maharatna Public Sector Undertaking (PSU), signed a quadripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Telangana -based Bluejay Aerospace Private Limited , Agency for New and Renewable Energy Research and Technology (ANERT) and Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) to establish the world’s first hydrogen-fuelled vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) aviation ecosystem. The initiative aims to achieve Net Zero Emission (NZE) by 2070. and aims to revolutionise urban and regional air mobility.
6 UK and Odisha government collaborate on net-zero vision for Bhubaneswar
In March 2025 , the United Kingdom (UK) government in collaboration with the Department of Energy of Odisha and Gridco Limited (formerly known as Grid Corporation of Odisha) organised a workshop on ‘ Net-Zero Vision for Bhubaneswar ‘ in Bhubaneswar , Odisha . The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), New Delhi, participated as the knowledge partner. The event aimed to prepare a roadmap for the city’s transition towards a sustainable and low-carbon future.
7 GRSE signs MoU with PWD Nagaland for Modular Steel Bridge
In March 2025 , Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Limited (GRSE) , a Defence Public Sector Undertaking (DPSU) under the Ministry of Defence (MoD) , signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Public Works Department (PWD) (Roads & Bridges) of the Northeast Indian state of Nagaland at Kohima (Nagaland) for supply of 8 sets of Double Lane Modular Steel Bridges to Nagaland. This is the first MoU between GRSE and the Northeast state, aligned with the “Make in India” (MII) initiative of the Government of India (GoI) for regional development. GRSE has previously supplied modular bridges to Border Roads Organisation (BRO), National Highways Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), various State Governments and friendly countries like Bhutan, Nepal, Myanmar, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. To date, GRSE has supplied over 5,800 modular bridges.
8 Delhi High Court removed Justice Yashwant Verma from judicial work with immediate effect
The Delhi High Court has removed Justice Yashwant Verma from judicial work with immediate effect . This decision was taken in a notice issued by the High Court. The court’s order came after a large amount of cash was allegedly recovered after a fire broke out at his official residence . Earlier, on March 22, the Supreme Court uploaded the investigation report of Delhi High Court Chief Justice D.K. Upadhyay regarding the alleged discovery of cash at Justice Verma’s residence , which also includes photos and videos. In the report given to Supreme Court Chief Justice Sanjeev Khanna , Justice Upadhyay has stressed the need for a thorough investigation of the matter.
India has won the men’s and women’s Kabaddi World Cup titles in England . The men’s team defeated England 44-41 in the final . Earlier, the Indian women’s team also defeated England by 57 points against 34 in the final . For the first time, top Kabaddi teams participated in this tournament held in West Midlands of England outside Asia. India won the men’s and women’s Kabaddi World Cup titles in the initial competition hosted by Malaysia in 2019.
10 Jaspreet Kaur of Punjab sets new national record in powerlifting at Khelo India Para Games in New Delhi
Jaspreet Kaur of Punjab made a new national record in powerlifting in Khelo India Para Games . She won the gold medal by breaking her own record in 45 kg category . She has become the first player to break the national record in this year’s Khelo India Para Games. Manish also won the gold medal by lifting 166 kg in 54 kg category. Archer Sheetal Devi of Jammu and Kashmir won the gold medal. Rakesh Kumar and Jyoti Baliyan also won gold medals in their respective competitions. Vijay Shundi of Jharkhand won the gold medal by defeating Vikas Bhakhar of Haryana in Recurve Open. Archer Adil Mohammad Nazir Ansari of Maharashtra also won the gold medal. Sumedha Pathak of Uttar Pradesh won the gold medal in 10 meter air pistol event. At the same time, Sagar Balasaheb Katle of Maharashtra won the silver medal in the same event.
11 Assam Rifles Raising Day
Every year 24th March is celebrated as Raising Day to commemorate the formation of this force, honouring the valour, courage and service of its soldiers. This force is known in Northeast India as the “ Sentinels of the North-East ”. On 24th March 2025 , Assam Rifles is celebrating its 190th Raising Day. Assam Rifles was established in 1835 during the British Raj as the Cachar Levy , initially a police unit of 750 men . Over time, it was reorganised and renamed several times, such as merging three Assam Military Police battalions in 1870, and renaming it Assam Rifles in 1917. This force has played a vital role in the First and Second World Wars , and today it is engaged day and night in maintaining law and order in Northeast India and guarding the Indo-Myanmar border. Starting from 5 battalions in 1947, it has now grown to 46 battalions. In 1870, this force was merged into three Assam Military Police battalions. Lushai Hills (1st Battalion), Lakhimpur (2nd Battalion), and Naga Hills (3rd Battalion). In 1915, the 4th battalion was raised at Imphal.
12 World Tuberculosis (TB) Day – 2025
World Tuberculosis (TB) Day is observed every year on March 24 to raise awareness about the need to eliminate TB, the world’s deadliest infectious disease. The day marks the discovery of the bacterium that causes TB by Dr. Robert Koch in 1882. India has been celebrating this day along with the global community since 1982. Despite the great progress made so far, TB still affects millions of lives, posing serious health, social and economic challenges. This year’s theme, “ Yes! We can end TB: Commitment, Investment, Results ”, highlights the importance of strong commitments and action, especially against the rising drug-resistant TB. India’s goal of eliminating TB by 2025 is one of the most ambitious health missions in the world. Under the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme (NTEP), India has strengthened its response to TB with improved diagnostics, innovative policies, private sector involvement, and a patient-first approach. However, with declining global TB funding and shifting priorities, sustained commitment is vital to meet India’s 2025 target and the UN goal of eliminating TB by 2030 .
