1. Business-20 meeting will be organized under G-20 in Gandhinagar from 22 to 24 January.

Business-20 i.e. B-20 meeting will be held in Gandhinagar , Gujarat from 22 to 24 January as part of India’s G-20 chairmanship . This meeting will be done for policy recommendations before the summit. Gujarat will host 15 events as part of India’s G-20 chairmanship. This meeting is the first in this series. Union Ministers Piyush Goyal and Ashwini Vaishnav, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, India’s G-20 Sherpa Amitabh Kant and Tata Sons Chairman N.K. Chandrasekaran will attend. More than 150 policy-makers, industrialists and senior officials from G-20 countries will participate.

2. Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal presented the National Startup Awards 2022 in New Delhi

Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has said that the government is constantly looking at innovative ideas to improve systems and processes. Presenting the National Startup Awards-NSA 2022 in New Delhi, Shri Goyal emphasized the need for a robust database to connect government, industries and public with startups. NSA 2022 winners were felicitated at the closing ceremony of Startup India Innovation Week. The event recognized 41 startups, two incubators and one accelerator as winners.

3. Piyush Goyal launches MAARG portal for startup mentorship

Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal launched the MAARG platform (Mentorship, Advisory, Assistance, Resilience and Growth) on 16 January . The portal will facilitate mentorship between startups and entrepreneurs across sectors, stages and functions. It will allow startups to connect with mentors and discuss their mentorship needs. Startups can connect with academics, industry experts, successful founders, seasoned investors and others to receive personalized mentorship, clarity and practical advice on growth strategy.

4. EU inaugurates first satellite launch center in Arctic Sweden

The European Union is looking to boost its ability to launch small satellites into space with a new launchpad in arctic Sweden . European officials and Swedish King Carl XVI Gustaf inaugurated the EU’s first ‘ mainland orbital ‘ launch complex during a visit to Sweden by members of the European Commission. The European Commission is a 27-nation grouping, which includes Sweden. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said the small satellites are vital for tracking natural disasters in real time and helping to guarantee global security in light of Russia’s war in Ukraine.

5. Rajasthan became the first state in the country to implement the Blindness Control Policy

Rajasthan has become the first state in the country to control blindness . Blindness control policy has been implemented in Rajasthan . Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has taken an innovative initiative in the direction of realizing the vision of Nirogi Rajasthan in the state. For the first time in the country, the Blindness Control Policy has been implemented by the Government of Rajasthan with the objective of ‘Right to Sight Vision’. On the instructions of the Chief Minister, the policy document for the prevention of blindness was issued by the Medical and Health Department. This policy has been brought with the aim of bringing light to the lives of more than three lakh people suffering from visual impairment in the state. It is noteworthy that in the year 2020, the prevalence rate of blindness in the country was 1.1 percent, which will be worked towards bringing it down to 0.3 percent through the Right to Sight Vision Policy.

6. Capt Surabhi Jakhmola becomes first woman officer to be posted on foreign assignment in BRO

Captain Surabhi Jakhmola of the 117 Engineer Regiment of the Indian Army will be the first woman officer to be posted on a foreign assignment in the Border Roads Organization (BRO) . The officer will be sent to Bhutan under Project Dantak. The Border Roads Organization (BRO) is an executive road construction force in India that supports the Indian Armed Forces.

7. OECD appoints Claire Lombardelli as Chief Economist

The Treasury ‘s Chief Economic Adviser, Claire Lombardelli , has been appointed as the new Chief Economist of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) . She will lead the OECD’s economic functions, replacing France’s Laurence Boon, who has held the position since 2018.

8. MoU signed to facilitate loans to farmers at low interest rates

The Warehousing Development and Regulatory Authority (WDRA) has partnered with the State Bank of India (SBI) in a program to facilitate loans to farmers at low interest rates.Signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with The MoU has been signed with the aim of promoting awareness about the new loan product called Produce Marketing Loan, specifically for disbursement of funds on the basis of e-NWR (Electronic Negotiable Storage Receipt) with zero processing fee, Features like no additional collateral required and attractive interest rates. The objective of the MoU is to provide information about the benefits to the depositors besides carrying out outreach activities to improve agricultural finance in India. With the inherent security and negotiability of the e-NWR system, the produce marketing credit will go a long way in improving rural cash flow and increasing farmers’ income.

9. 21st edition of bilateral naval exercise ‘Varuna’ – 2023 between India and France

The 21st edition of the bilateral naval exercise Exercise “ Varuna ” between India and France began on 16 January 2023 off the western seaboard . The bilateral exercise between the navies of the two countries was started in the year 1993, it was named ‘Varuna’ in the year 2001. This series of naval exercises has become a hallmark of the strategic bilateral relationship between India and France. Several warships and boats of the Indian Navy are participating in the current edition of the exercise. These include participation of indigenous Guided Missile Stealth Destroyer Ship INS Chennai, Guided Missile Frigate INS Teg Boat, Maritime Patrol Aircraft P-8I and Dornier, integral helicopters and MiG29K fighter aircraft.

10. NTPC REL signs MoU with Government of Tripura for cooperation in renewable energy development

NTPC Renewable Energy Limited (NTPC REL) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Tripura in New Delhi on January 16, 2023 for development of floating and ground mounted based renewable energy projects in the state. The MoU was signed by Shri Rajeev Gupta, Chief General Manager, NTPC REL and Shri Mahanand Debbarma, Director General & CEO, Tripura Renewable Energy Development Agency.

11. SPIC MACAY and Ministry of Culture collaborate for ‘Music in the Park’ series under “Shruti Amrit”

12. India-China trade reaches all-time high

According to the data, trade between India and China is set to reach an all – time high of USD 135.98 billion in 2022 , while New Delhi’s trade deficit with Beijing crossed the USD 100 billion mark for the first time . This is a significant increase from the USD 125 billion recorded in 2021. India’s trade deficit stood at $101.02 billion crossing the 2021 figure of $69.38 billion. This is the first time the trade deficit has crossed the USD 100 billion mark. The trade deficit in 2021 stood at US$ 69.56 billion. India’s exports to China to grow by 34.28 per cent year-on-year to reach USD 28.03 billion in 2021.

13. NCLT approves PVR and Inox chain merger

The country’s two largest multiplex chains PVR and INOX Chain (PVR-INOX Chain) are about to merge. The Bombay Bench of the National Company Law Tribunal has given its approval for the merger of both the multiplex chains i.e. PVR Limited and INOX Leisure . After this approval, the name of these multiplex chains will be PVR-INOX . It will become the biggest film exhibitor of the country. After the merger, the company will have a total of 1,546 screens spread across 341 properties and 109 cities. Let us tell you that the name of the already built theaters will remain PVR and INOX and the new theaters that will be built will be named PVR-INOX.

14. Flybig launches flight service from Itanagar to Guwahati

Regional carrier Flybig started its services from Itanagar to Guwahati . Flybig carrier has started flights from Hollongi in Arunachal Pradesh to Guwahati in Assam. With this, Itanagar becomes the 10th destination on the flybig network and the 3rd in Arunachal Pradesh. Flybig Airline is the newest airline of India. Flybig got the permit from DGCA in December 2020 . Flybig is an airline company based in Indore . The airline was founded by Sanjay Mandaviya – a pilot turned aviation entrepreneur.

15. United Nations declares Abdul Rehman Makki a global terrorist

The United Nations Security Council has declared Pakistani terrorist Abdul Rehman Makki as a global terrorist . Makki is the brother-in-law of Hafiz Saeed , the Lashkar-e-Taiba chief and mastermind of the 26/11 terror attack . The decision comes after China opposed the proposal to list Makki as a terrorist under the Sanctions Committee last year, which was followed by India’s condemnation. India has been actively involved in recruiting youth and raising funds to plan attacks, especially in Jammu and Kashmir. India and America have already put Makki in the list of terrorists. Makki executes various conspiracies in the terrorist organization.

16. Falak Mumtaz won gold medal in 23rd National Ski Championship

11-year -old Falak Mumtaz of Jammu and Kashmir has won the gold medal in the National Ski Championship . Falak Mumtaz has won gold medal in the National Ski Championship held in Jammu. She is currently studying in class VI at Ayesha Ali Academy in Kulgam. The 23rd National Sqay Championship was organized by SQAY Federation of India and organized by Jammu and Kashmir SQAY Association at Indoor Stadium Bhagwati Nagar, Jammu.
