1 Chief Justice Surya Kant inaugurated the ‘Tower of Justice’ in Gurugram
Chief Justice of India, Justice Surya Kant, inaugurated the new judicial court complex, the Tower of Justice, in Gurugram . Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini , Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal Khattar , Union Minister of State for Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal , and Union Minister of State Rao Inderjit Singh were present on the occasion. The building has been equipped with modern technology and facilities, which will accelerate the delivery of justice. He further informed that a special bar room has also been created for women advocates in the complex, which will make it more convenient for them to perform their duties.
2 Union Minister Piyush Goyal will visit 3 countries.
On July 13th , Union Minister Piyush Goyal will visit Spain, Belgium, and Finland . During this visit, Goyal will lead a high-level business delegation. During the first leg of his visit, Goyal will first arrive in Spain. He will participate in a business roundtable with the Spanish Chamber of Commerce, CEOE, and ICEX Spain Trade and Investment. In this session, Goyal will discuss issues related to automotive, renewable energy, railways, artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and food processing with industry leaders from Spain and India. Goyal will then visit Belgium on the 14th and 15th and participate in the India-EU Business Roundtable. Goyal will discuss issues related to foreign investment, trade, sustainable technology, and supply chains in Belgium. He will then visit Finland on the 16th and 17th to participate in the India-Finland Business Roundtable, which will focus on cooperation in the areas of telecommunications, advanced manufacturing, clean energy, mobility, and innovation. In Finland, Goyal will also visit leading Finnish companies and research institutions, including Nokia, Kone, Kemppi Group, and VTT Research Center. The visit will enhance cooperation in sectors such as clean energy, digital technologies, advanced manufacturing, semiconductors, healthcare, and gems and jewelry.
3 NTPC’s Lara Thermal Power Project gets approval
On July 12th , India’s largest power generation company, National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) Limited , approved the expansion of the Lara Thermal Power Project in Chhattisgarh . The central government approved an investment proposal of ₹20,457 crore for this project. This investment will develop the Lara Super Thermal Power Station (Stage-II) . This power plant will generate a total of 1,600 MW of ultra-supercritical power units . Ultra-supercritical technology is more advanced than coal-based plants and produces relatively lower carbon emissions per unit of electricity generated. NTPC was established on November 7, 1975. NTPC is a major Central Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) under the Ministry of Power , Government of India . NTPC is India’s largest power generation company, generating electricity from various sources, including coal, gas, hydro, solar, and wind energy. NTPC is a ‘Maharatna’ company and is headquartered in New Delhi.
4 Communications with Mission Drishti lost after solar storm
Mission Drishti , the world’s first optical synthetic aperture radar (OptoSAR) satellite, has lost communication with the spacecraft following a malfunction caused by a geomagnetic solar storm . According to preliminary analysis, radiation from the solar storm affected a critical onboard system of the satellite during launch and the final stages of the initial orbit phase. Drishti was the world’s first satellite developed to simultaneously acquire optical multi-spectral and synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images of the same location. It was designed to address the persistent cloud cover in tropical regions . Its SAR sensors were capable of penetrating clouds and acquiring data even at night, while its optical sensors provided sharper and more accurate images. When clouds obstructed the optical view, the satellite could use SAR data to create optical-like images with the help of artificial intelligence (AI) , making the information easier to understand and analyze even for non-experts. The satellite was intended to assist in border surveillance, defense, disaster response, agriculture, infrastructure planning, and insurance evaluation , especially during floods , cyclones, and landslides . Significance: The mission further strengthened the growth of India’s private space ecosystem, with companies such as Agnikul Cosmos —known for its 3D-printed rocket engines—and Skyroot Aerospace —which develops privately manufactured rockets.
In the Wimbledon Tennis Tournament in London , 21-year-old Linda Noskova (Czech Republic) won the women’s singles title by defeating Karolina Mukova of Czech Republic 6-2, 5-7, 6-3. Earlier, Marketa Vondrousova won this tournament in 2023 and Barbora Krejcikova in 2024. Meanwhile, in the men’s singles final today, world number one player Yannick Sinner will face Alexander Zverev of Germany. Sinner had defeated nine-time champion Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals. Whereas, Zverev had made it to the final by defeating Arthur Furry of Britain.
On July 12th , Animesh Kujur became the fastest Indian to run the 100 meters abroad . Animesh completed the 100 meters in 10.14 seconds at the World Athletics Continental Tour Challenger held in Germany. The 23-year-old Animesh broke his own record for fastest time abroad. Animesh’s time of 10.14 seconds is the second fastest 100 meters in Indian history. The national record is 10.09 seconds , set by Gurindervir Singh at the Federation Cup in Ranchi earlier this year . Animesh Kujur has already qualified for India’s 100 meters and 200 meters teams for the 2026 Commonwealth Games . After the German competition, he will join the Indian team’s training camp in Spała, Poland. He will then represent India at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. The world record for the 100 meters is held by Jamaica’s Usain Bolt. He made this record in the 2009 World Athletics Championships.
On July 12th , women’s cricketer Kranti Gaur became the first Indian woman cricketer to be enshrined on the Lord’s Honor Board . Kranti achieved this record by taking five wickets against England . In fact, bowlers who take five wickets at the Home of Cricket are named on the Honor Board. This has been a long-standing tradition at Lord’s. In keeping with tradition, Kranti Gaur’s name will also be enshrined on the Lord’s Honor Board. Kranti took five wickets for just 37 runs in 17 overs in the first innings. At 22 years and 333 days, Kranti Gaur became the youngest Indian woman bowler to take a five-wicket haul in Test cricket, breaking Jhulan Goswami ‘s record. Twenty-seven Indians are on the Lord’s Honor Board , including Ravi Shastri, Kapil Dev, Sourav Ganguly, KL Rahul, and Jasprit Bumrah. Furthermore, this is the first five-wicket haul by a fast bowler in a women’s Test match in England since 2015. Women’s Test cricket is being played for the first time in the 142-year history of Lord’s ground in London.
In July 2026 , former Indian professional tennis player and Olympic medalist Leander Paes was appointed as the Player Ambassador of the Asian Tennis Federation (ATF) . His role is to promote grassroots tennis , encourage youth participation, and strengthen the sport across Asia. Leander Paes is one of India’s most successful tennis players. His professional career spanned more than three decades before retiring in 2021. Paes, a former world No. 1 in doubles, won a bronze medal in the men’s singles at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, USA. He is the only Indian tennis player to win an Olympic medal. He won 18 Grand Slam titles and completed a career Grand Slam in both categories. He also won eight Asian Games medals, including five gold medals, between 1990 and 2006.
In July 2026 , Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc won the 2026 British Grand Prix (GP) in Monaco (officially known as the Formula One (F1) Pirelli British GP 2026). It was the ninth round of the 2026 F1 World Championship, held at the Silverstone Circuit in Northamptonshire, England. The win was Charles Leclerc’s first win of the 2026 Formula 1 season, the ninth win of his Formula 1 GP career, and Ferrari’s 250th F1 GP win. Mercedes’ George Russell finished second, while Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton finished third.
