1.Madhya Pradesh allowed to provide reservation to Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in local body elections

Recently, the Supreme Court (SC) has given reservation to Other Backward Classes (OBC) in local body elections in Madhya Pradesh .allowed to provide, modifying the earlier order suspending the quota due to paucity of data. At present, there is a provision of reservation only for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and women in local bodies in Madhya Pradesh. This is the first time that a state government has managed to approve the triple test formula mandated by the apex court in the context of providing reservation to OBCs in local body elections. Earlier, the Supreme Court, hearing a petition by the Maharashtra government, decided to withdraw its December 2021 order, which had stayed the 27% reservation for Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in local body elections. .

The Punjab Cabinet , headed by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann , has approved the decision to give Rs 1,500 per acre as an incentive to the farmers doing direct sowing of paddy . An amount of Rs.450 crore has been earmarked for farmers to encourage this low water consumption and low cost technology. This decision of the government will allow direct sowing during the crop cycle as compared to planting paddy by pumpkin seeding method. The paddy sown with this technology saves 15-20 percent water. The government has decided to encourage direct sowing in view of the alarming decline in groundwater through the traditional method of planting paddy in the state.
