1.World Elder Abuse Awareness Day: 15 June

World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) is observed on 15th June every year.The principal goal of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day is to provide our communities around the globe with an opportunity to get a better knowledge of abuse and neglect of older people.The day was officially recognized by the United Nations General Assembly in December 2011 bypassing the resolution 66/127 of the United Nations following a request from the International Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse (INPEA).2020 theme: “Lifting Up Voices”.

2.World Wind Day :15th June

Global Wind Day is a worldwide event that occurs annually on 15 June.The event is celebrated to spread awareness about wind energy, the various uses of wind energy, and the ways and possibilities as to how wind energy can help change the world.EWEA established the day as Wind Day in the year 2007 and later in 2009, EWEA (European Wind Energy Association) and GWEC (Global Wind Energy Council) teamed up with aims to coordinate the events globally and the name was changed to World Wind Day.Global Wind Day began in Europe in 2007 and globally in 2009.

3.CIMAP announces photography competition on medicinal and aromatic plants

In an effort to create awareness about the usefulness of Medicinal and aromatic plants, the Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic plants (CIMAP) has announced a photography competition on medicinal and aromatic plants.Through this competition, CIMAP also wants to convey the message of conservation of these medicinal plants.The theme of the competition is ‘Know your Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (MAPs)’. Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (CIMAP) is a research institute of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR).It is located in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh.

4.Central Railway sets up Body Screening Facility ‘FebriEye’ in Mumbai’s CSMT, LTT Stations

In order to effectively scan passengers for symptoms of COVID-19, Central Railway has set up a body screening facility called FebriEye.This is yet another effort towards passenger safety after automated ticket checking and managing access (ATMA) machines and Always be Responsible and robotic Captain Arjun.In order to effectively scan passengers for COVID-19 symptoms and to ensure contactless entry, body-screening facility “FebriEye thermal cameras” have been set up at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus and Lokmanya Tilak Terminus in Mumbai, Maharashtra.FebriEye is an Artificial Intelligence-based thermal screening system for real-time and automated, non-intrusive monitoring to ensure that a person entering does not have a high fever.

5.Odisha’s unique festival Raja Parba begins

On Raja Praba, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has greeted the people Of Odisha.Raja Parba, Odisha’s three-day unique festival celebrating the onset of monsoon and the earth’s womanhood has begun.As a mark of respect towards the earth during her menstruation days, all agricultural works, like ploughing, sowing are suspended for the three days.Raja Sankranti is the first day of the Ashara month.It is celebrated on the day prior to the Sankranti, (Pahili Raja), the day of Sankranti, and the day after, known as Bhu Daha or ‘Basi Raja.The festival is essentially the celebration of the earth’s womanhood. It is believed that during this time the Mother Earth or Bhudevi undergoes menstruation.

6.Chhattisgarh Police launches Spandan campaign to protect police personnel from depression,stress

Chhattisgarh Police has launched a campaign ‘Spandan’ to protect the jawans from depression and stress.Director General of Police DM Awasthi recently initiated this campaign from a Maoist affected Kanker district of Bastar division.More than 50 police personnel, including personnel of paramilitary forces, committed suicide in Chhattisgarh over the past two years.Eighteen of these cases were reported from seven districts of Maoist-affected Bastar division.Apart from this, Jawans opening fire on their colleagues were also reported in recent years.

7.Assam fire: MB Lal Committee recommendations not implemented for a decade

The recent massive fire at the Baghjan Oil field, Assam had caused serious environmental damages and led to migration of 1000s of people in the region.The Government of India has taken several measures to address the issues of such oil field fires.In 2009 GoI constituted the M B Lal Committee following the fire accident at the IOCL terminal in Jaipur.The Committee had made 118 recommendations in regards to the safety guidelines to be followed by the oil companies while installing oil wells.

8.NCLT allows Jet Airways to sell office in Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex

The NCLT has allowed Jet Airways to sell its premises in Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) to settle Rs 360 crore dues of mortgage lender HDFC.Jet Airways’ insolvency resolution professional Ashish Chhawchharia had moved the NCLT to seek approval to sell its third and fourth floor in Godrej BKC building to clear overseas debt.The Principal Bench of NCLT in its order granted permission to the grounded airline to sell the premises for utilising the proceeds to settle Rs 360 crore dues of HDFC.The property is a non-core asset of the grounded airlines, which was never used by Jet as part of its airlines business.

9.Anmol Narang becomes first observant sikh to graduate from US Military Academy

Second Lieutenant Anmol Narang is all set to create history. She will become the first observant Sikh to graduate from the United States (US) Military Academy.The graduation ceremony will take place at the US Military Academy at West Point.In 1987, the US Congress passed a law that prohibited Sikhs and several other religious communities from maintaining their articles of faith while in the military, despite a history of diverse service and simple accommodations.

10.Imtaiyazur Rahman is appointed as the CEO of UTI Mutual Fund

UTI Asset Management Company (AMC) appointed Imtaiyazur Rahman (pictured) as its chief executive officer (CEO).Rahman was appointed interim CEO in 2018 after Leo Puri’s term came to an end.The absence of a permanent CEO at such a large fund house may have been one of the concerns for SEBI.The fund house had average assets under management of Rs 1.5 trillion in the March quarter.

11.Pankaj Tripathi became the brand ambassador of Bihar Khadi

Bollywood actor Pankaj Tripathi has been appointed as the brand ambassador of Bihar Khadi by the state governmentIn November last year, Chief Minister CM Nitish Kumar inaugurates country’s first Khadi Mall in Patna.The Khadi Village Industries Board has instructed all Khadi institutions to produce new designs of Khadi garments to increase production and sales.The Madhubani Khadi of the state is being promoted throughout the country.

12.Attorney General K K Venugopa to get 1-year extension

Noted constitutional expert KK Venugopal will continue as the Attorney General of India for one more year.He has accepted the government’s request to serve as the top law officer of the country beyond June 30 when his current three-year tenure expires.Venugopal, a leading lawyer of the country, was appointed as Attorney General and succeeded Mukul Rohatgi on June 30, 2017.Known as a doyen of Indian Bar, Venugopal has appeared for the Centre in Aadhaar and Rafale cases, among others, in the Supreme Court.He is defending the Union government in other important cases including those related to the Citizenship (Amendment) Act and the abrogation of Article 370 of the Constitution.
