The 16th meeting of the various countries involved in the Biodiversity Treaty – COP-16 Conference was concluded in Cali, Colombia . In this, the essential role of indigenous people and African race communities in preserving biodiversity was acknowledged. The President of the Conference Susana Muhammad and Colombia’s Foreign Minister Luis Gilberto Murillo have welcomed this decision. With the theme ” Peace with Nature “, COP-16 has achieved many important results. This includes an agreement to establish a global fund to identify and protect ecologically important shipping areas in the international maritime area. Colombia will remain the President of this conference till the year 2026. Armenia will chair it in the year 2026.
Minister of State for Environment Kirti Vardhan Singh launched India’s updated ‘ National Biodiversity Action Policy and Plan ‘ – NBSAP at the 16th meeting of the Conference of Parties in Colombia . On this occasion, he highlighted India’s ‘whole of government’ and ‘whole of society’ approach in updating it. The scheme outlines strategies to tackle environmental challenges. Apart from this, it addresses challenges through ecosystem restoration, species recovery programs and community-driven conservation efforts.

According to an official release, the park has already registered for the IGBC certification, seeking recognition for both its structural design and landscape planning. India’s Krisha Verma won the gold medal at the Under-19 World Boxing Championships in Colorado, USA . However, five other Indian boxers in the race for the gold medal lost in their respective finals. Krisha defeated Germany ‘s Lerika Simon 5-0 to win the gold medal. Chanchal Chaudhary, on the other hand, lost to England’s Ruby White in the final of the women’s 48kg category . The Indian boxer was disqualified in this category due to which she had to settle for the silver medal. In the women’s 57kg category, Anjali Singh lost 0-5 to England’s Mia-Tiah Ayton in the final. Rahul Kundu, competing in the men’s 75kg category, also had to settle for a silver medal. He lost 1-4 to USA’s Joseph Avinongya in the final of his category. In the women’s 60kg category, Winnie lost 3-2 to Ella Lonsdale. In the women’s 70kg category, Akanksha lost 4-1 to England’s Lily Deacon. As a result of this defeat, Akanksha also had to settle for a silver medal.
India’s Atanu Das has won the bronze medal in the Swiss Open Indoor Archery Tournament held in Lausanne , Switzerland . Atanu Das defeated Thomas Rufer of Switzerland 6-4. Earlier in the semi-finals, Atanu had to face defeat against Romain Fichet of France 4-6. Romain won the silver and Italy’s Alessandro Paoli won the gold medal.
