The 16th meeting   of the various countries involved in  the Biodiversity Treaty – COP-16 Conference  was concluded in  Cali, Colombia . In this, the essential role of indigenous people and African race communities in preserving biodiversity was acknowledged. The President of the Conference Susana Muhammad  and Colombia’s Foreign Minister  Luis Gilberto Murillo  have welcomed this decision. With the theme ” Peace with Nature “, COP-16 has achieved many important results. This includes an agreement to establish a global fund to identify and protect ecologically important shipping areas in the international maritime area. Colombia will remain the President of this conference till the year 2026.  Armenia  will chair it in the year 2026.
Minister of State for Environment  Kirti Vardhan Singh launched India’s updated ‘ National Biodiversity Action Policy and Plan ‘ – NBSAP   at the 16th meeting of the Conference of Parties in Colombia . On this occasion, he highlighted India’s ‘whole of government’ and ‘whole of society’ approach in updating it. The scheme outlines strategies to tackle environmental challenges. Apart from this, it addresses challenges through ecosystem restoration, species recovery programs and community-driven conservation efforts.

2 First Asian Buddhist Summit to be held from November 5

 

The Ministry  of Culture  is organizing  the first Asian Buddhist Summit on 5th and 6th November   in  New  Delhi ,  courtesy of  the International Buddhist Confederation . The theme of the conference is – Role of Buddhism in Strengthening Asia . President Draupadi Murmu is likely to attend the conference as the Chief Guest. In this, scholars from various Buddhist traditions of Asia will discuss solutions to the contemporary challenges of the Buddhist community.  Buddhism  has a special place in the spiritual and cultural history of India and Asia. This summit is a unique opportunity to bring together the diverse traditions of Buddhism in Asia.

4 Himachal Pradesh’s Durgesh Aranya Zoological Park is set to become India’s first zoo to have IGBC certification: CM Sukhu

Himachal Pradesh  Chief  Minister  Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu  on Wednesday announced that  the Durgesh Aranya Zoological Park, coming up in  the Bankhandi area  of  ​​Kangra  ‘s  Dehra assembly constituency, will become India’s first zoo  to receive certification from  the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC)  for sustainable and eco-friendly infrastructure   . According to an official release, the park has already registered for the IGBC certification, seeking recognition for both its structural design and landscape planning. 6 Krisha Verma won gold medal in the Under-19 World Boxing Championship being played in America

India’s  Krisha Verma  won  the gold medal  at  the Under-19 World Boxing Championships in  Colorado, USA   . However, five other Indian boxers in the race for the gold medal lost in their respective finals. Krisha  defeated Germany  ‘s  Lerika Simon  5-0 to win the gold medal.  Chanchal Chaudhary, on the other hand, lost to England’s Ruby White in the final of the women’s 48kg category  . The Indian boxer was disqualified in this category due to which she had to settle for the silver medal.  In the women’s 57kg category, Anjali Singh  lost 0-5 to England’s Mia-Tiah Ayton in the final.  Rahul Kundu, competing in  the men’s 75kg category,   also had to settle for a silver medal. He lost 1-4 to USA’s Joseph Avinongya in the final of his category.  In  the women’s 60kg category,  Winnie  lost 3-2 to Ella Lonsdale.  In the women’s 70kg category, Akanksha  lost 4-1 to England’s Lily Deacon. As a result of this defeat, Akanksha also had to settle for a silver medal.

7 Atanu Das of India won bronze medal in Swiss Open Indoor Archery held in Lausanne, Switzerland

 

India’s  Atanu Das  has  won the bronze medal  in  the Swiss Open Indoor Archery Tournament  held in  LausanneSwitzerland   . Atanu Das defeated Thomas Rufer of Switzerland 6-4. Earlier in the semi-finals, Atanu had to face defeat against Romain Fichet of France 4-6. Romain won the silver and Italy’s Alessandro Paoli won the gold medal.

8 India’s Karan Singh and France’s Florent Bax pair won the men’s doubles title in the ATP Challenger Tennis Tournament

The pair of  Karan Singh  and  Florent Bax  of India and France  have won the men’s doubles title  in  the ATP Challenger Tennis Tournament   held in  Brazzaville, Congo . They defeated the pair of Simone Agostini of Italy and Alec Bakkely of South Africa. This is Karan’s first title.

India   has performed brilliantly in the Under-19 World Boxing Championship held in  Colorado, USA  . The Indian  team  has won 17 medals including 4 gold   in the men’s and women’s categories of this competition . The Indian team includes 19 boxers including 9 men and 10 women, out of which 12 have reached the finals and every female boxer has been successful in winning a medal.  Hemant Sangwan  is the only male boxer to win a gold medal for India, while among women,  Krisha Verma, Parthvi Grewal and Vanshika Goswami  have been successful in winning gold medals. India is now trying to make its special place in boxing.  This sport is expected to be included in  the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics .
