3 Amazon’s new packaging will be made from agricultural waste, in collaboration with IIT Roorkee

Amazon India has announced a significant partnership with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee . This collaboration will develop new packaging materials from agricultural residues , providing a sustainable alternative to traditional wood-based paper and plastic packaging . The project aims to develop non-wood-based paper technologies to utilize agricultural residues instead of burning them, reducing dependence on virgin wood pulp. The proposed packaging will be lightweight, strong, fully recyclable, and domestically compostable. The research will produce high-quality pulp from crop residues such as wheat straw and bagasse (sugarcane bagasse). This will create paper mailers with strength and durability comparable to traditional packaging. This initiative can help mitigate the problem of stubble burning, reduce dependence on imported wood pulp, and generate additional income for farmers.

The opposition has introduced a no-confidence motion against Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on February 10, 2026. This motion will now undergo scrutiny and due process as per parliamentary rules. This step was taken after opposition parties raised objections to certain decisions taken by the Speaker during House proceedings. The Indian Constitution lays down a clear procedure for the removal of the Speaker of the Lok Sabha. Article 94(c) of the Indian Constitution provides for the removal of the Speaker of the Lok Sabha. According to this provision, the Speaker of the Lok Sabha can be removed by a resolution passed by a majority of the total number of members of the House at that time . This procedure applies only to the Lok Sabha, not the Rajya Sabha. The constitutional framework ensures that the Speaker, despite holding a high constitutional office, remains accountable to the House.
