1.Kerala to launch sex offenders registry, first in the country :-
The Kerala government also plan to launch the country’s first sex offenders registry which will contain all identification details of sex offenders and would be kept in public domain

2.Universities to compete with IITs, IIMs in rankings :-

Central and State universities will have to compete with institutions like Indian Institutes of Technology and Indian Institutes of Management in this year’s official rankings of higher education institutions, which will be released early in April.

Union  Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu had unveiled  the new Antyodaya Express, a fully unreserved train for the common man with specially designed colourful coaches.

4.WhatsApp’s update could kill Snapchat :-

WhatsApp now has a new feature called Status, launched on February 20, which will allow users to update their statuses with time-limited photos, videos, scribbles and GIFs.

5.Sikkim becomes 22nd State to join UDAY :-
India’s first fully organic state Sikkim has joined the union government’s Ujwal DISCOM Assurance Yojana (UDAY) as 22 nd state , the so called UDAY will in turn hand it an overall benefit of Rs 356 crore.

Nobel-winning economist, mathematician Kenneth J Arrow has died in USA on February 23, 2017 .

7.Pak. on edge as terror hits continue :-

At least eight people were killed and 30 injured in an explosion in the highly guarded Defence Housing Authority area in Lahore, the 10th attack in less than two weeks pointing to a resurgence in Islamist violence in Pakistan.

8.Maneka Gandhi Announces Compensation Fund For Children :-
Union Women and Child Development Minister Sanjay Maneka Gandhi has unveiled the setting up of a compensation fund under Nirbhaya scheme to make available financial help to children who are victims of sexual crimes.
The money for this fund will be drawn from Nirbhaya Scheme and will be watched directly by the Women and Child Development Ministry and on the total amount of money to be set aside for this scheme is yet to be decided.

9.Justice Abhay Manohar Sapre to head Cauvery Tribunal :-
Justice Abhay Manohar Sapre has been appointed as the chairman of Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal (CWDT) on February 22, 2017.

12.SC agrees to hear former ISRO scientist Nambi Narayanan’s plea in April :-

The Supreme Court on Thursday agreed to hear in April a petition filed by former ISRO scientist Nambi Narayanan, discharged in the 1994 espionage case, for an order to initiate criminal action against three former top police officers for allegedly fabricating the case against him.

13.Government notifies protocol amending tax treaty with Israel :-
Centre has notified the protocol amending the India-Israel tax treaty to provide for exchange of information on tax matters including bank details with a view to check black money flows which will come into force effect in India from fiscal year beginning April 1.
