1 Diu became the first district in the country to meet its energy demand from solar energy

Diu district  of the Union Territory of  Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu  has  become  the first district in the country  to meet its electricity demand completely from solar energy  . This information was given by Union Minister of New and Renewable Energy,  Pralhad Joshi  on 29 May 2025. Pralhad Joshi visited Diu on 29 May 2025 to review the implementation of PM-Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme and to assess the district’s progress in adopting solar energy. Praising the achievement of Diu district, the minister said that Diu is a role model for the rest of the country in adopting and using renewable energy. The energy requirement of Diu district is met through 11.88 MW installed solar capacity in the district. Out of 11.88 MW solar power, 9 MW is installed on the ground and 2.88 MW on the rooftop. A 9 MW ground-based solar park is located at Fudam. The Fudam solar park has helped the district to reduce transmission and distribution (T&D) losses. This has reduced electricity rates and bills for consumers.

2 INSV Tarini crew completes global voyage

 

 “The world of the sea is the same planet but a completely different world,” Indian Navy  Lieutenant  Commander Roopa A on Thursday said. She and her partner  Lieutenant Commander Dilna K returned to Goa   after successfully circumnavigating the globe in a sailing boat  . With back-up support from the Navy, the duo  covered a distance of over 25,600 nautical miles in 238 days in their sailing boat INSV Tarini  . This was the first circumnavigation of the globe in a sailing vessel in ‘double-handed’ mode by Indian women, a Navy spokesperson said. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh welcomed the two courageous women and their vessel on the completion of the eight-month-long ‘Navika Sagar Parikrama II (NSP II)’ expedition at the Mormugao Port Authority in Vasco. Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh Tripathi, who had flagged off the expedition on October 2 last year, was also present.

3 Tata-Airbus to set up India’s first private helicopter assembly line in Karnataka

India’s aviation manufacturing capabilities  are set to scale even higher as  Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL)  and  European aerospace giant Airbus join hands to set up  the country’s first  privately owned helicopter final assembly line (FAL)  . The strategic move has put India on the global aerospace map, giving a boost to its ambition to become an indigenous defence and aviation manufacturing hub. India’s aviation manufacturing capabilities are set to scale new heights. The agreement between Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) and European aerospace giant Airbus will set up the country’s first private sector helicopter final assembly line (FAL). The plant will manufacture the Airbus H125 helicopter – a lightweight helicopter renowned for its versatility and performance in high temperatures and altitudes. It will be the fourth H125 assembly plant in the world – after France, the US, and Brazil.

Elon Musk  has  announced his decision to step down from his role  as  a senior adviser  to  US President Donald Trump  ,  ending his tenure as a special government employee with  the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE)  . Tesla and SpaceX  chief and billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk was tasked with leading efforts to streamline the federal bureaucracy and reduce wasteful government spending. Musk’s announcement comes just a day after he publicly criticised a cornerstone of Trump’s legislative agenda. In an interview with CBS, Tesla CEO Musk expressed disappointment over what Trump called a “big beautiful bill” that provides for sweeping tax cuts as well as strict immigration enforcement. Describing the bill as a “huge spending bill”, Musk said it runs contrary to the goals of his department. “It increases the federal deficit and undermines the work of DOGE,” he said.

5 India’s GDP growth rate is estimated to be 6.5 percent in FY 2026: Crisil

Crisil  on Thursday  projected  India’s  gross domestic product (GDP)  growth  rate to be 6.5 per cent in FY26  . Also, the rating agency has said that improvement in domestic consumption is likely to boost industrial activity. The India Meteorological Department expects above-normal monsoon this fiscal year, which bodes well for agricultural production and inflation. Moreover, according to Crisil Intelligence, crude oil prices are expected to remain low this fiscal year, averaging $65-70 per barrel compared to an average of $78.8 per barrel in the previous fiscal year.

6 Women’s share in contract technical roles to rise to 14% by 2024: Report

 

 There has been a major change in   the participation of women for contract technical roles in non-technical sectors in India. According to a latest report by TeamLease Digital , a specialized staffing firm in India  , the representation of women for technical roles in non-technical sectors was only 1.90 percent in 2020. At the same time, a slow but encouraging change was seen over time.  Women’s representation for   technical roles in non-technical sectors increased to 11.8 percent in 2023 and 14 percent in 2024  .

7 Nagashankar temple of Assam converted into a modern temple for turtle conservation

The Nagshankar temple  in   northeastern  Assam  ‘s  Biswanath district  has been given  the status of the ideal temple for turtle conservation . The honour was given during a special event held on World Turtle Day   on  May 23, 2025. The event celebrated the temple’s important work in conserving turtles, which are deeply respected in Assamese culture. A special event was organized at the Nagshankar temple on the occasion of World Turtle Day, in which several organizations participated. It included Kaziranga National Park, Assam State Zoo, Nagshankar Temple Committee, Chayadur College, and conservation organizations such as Turtle Survival Alliance (TSA) Foundation India, Aaranyak and Help Earth. At the event, local MLA Padma Hazarika formally recognized the temple’s important role in turtle conservation. During the event, people sang songs based on turtles and a special booklet that helps in identifying various freshwater turtles was released.

Hitachi India  on Thursday  announced the appointment of N Venu  as its  managing director  , effective June 2, 2025. This is Hitachi’s first Indian managing director after Bharat Kaushal, a corporate officer of Hitachi Ltd was promoted as executive president of Hitachi India with effect from April 1, 2025, a company statement said.

9 Drools becomes India’s first pet food unicorn

Bengaluru  -based pet food company  Drools  has now officially   become  a unicorn , that is, its valuation has crossed  $1 billion (about ₹8,300 crores).  This milestone was achieved when Switzerland’s famous company Nestle  bought  a minority stake in Drools . Nestle has confirmed this investment, but has also clarified that Drools will continue to work independently and take all its decisions. The purpose of this partnership is to provide financial support to Drools, while the company’s existing team and strategy will be retained.

The prestigious honour  was presented to her at the 51st AMA ceremony  held  in Los Angeles on May 27, 2025. She received the award for her contribution to the ‘ Arcane League of Legends: Season 2 ‘ soundtrack. Raja Kumari was honoured in the “Favorite Soundtrack” category, where her powerful and genre-breaking song ‘Renegade (We Never Run)’ emerged victorious with widespread appreciation.
