1.‘Global standards will curb unsafe imports’ :-

A good standards regime will help in preventing the flooding of domestic market with unsafe/sub-standard imports at the expense of the domestic industry as well as consumers, the commerce ministry said on Friday.

2.E-taxi trial run to begin in Nagpur :-

The country’s first electric taxi trial in the country would be launched in Nagpur from May 24. The first project of its kind will be undertaken by Nagpur Municipal Corporation. Mahindra and Mahindra is set to provide 200 taxis for the initiative.

3.North Korea ‘disrespected the wishes’ of Chinese President : Trump

US President Donald Trump has said that North Korea has “disrespected the wishes of China” by carrying out another missile test, as Pentagon confirmed it was a failed attempt by Pyongyang.

“North Korea disrespected the wishes of China and its highly respected President when it launched, though unsuccessfully, a missile today. Bad!” Mr. Trump said in a tweet last night, hours after North Korea carried out yet another failed missile test.

4.For peace to resume, Kashmir students should first stop hurling stones: SC 

For peace to return to Kashmir, students should first stop throwing stones at security forces on the streets and return to colleges and schools, the Supreme Court said on Friday.

Education is empowerment and only education will deliver them from the widespread unemployment and anger spilling out on the streets, Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul observed orally.

5.Reaching out to Kabul, Govt plans short film on two Afghan stars in IPL :-

IN A bid to showcase its soft-power diplomacy in war-torn but cricket-loving Afghanistan, the Ministry of External Affairs has decided to invite proposals from filmmakers for a documentary on two of that country’s most popular cricketers: Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi.

6.Tata Steel to raise Jamshedpur plant capacity to 11 million tones :-

Tata Steel has secured green clearance to increase production capacity of its Jamshedpur facility to 11 million tonnes and the work is in progress.

“In Jamshedpur, we have already got an environmental clearance to go to 11 million tonnes, but that has to be done through debottlenecking and that work is going on,” Tata Steel MD T V Narendran told PTI.

7.Five more Manipur MLAs join BJP :-

 

The strength of ruling BJP in the Manipur Assembly rose to 28 on Friday after the lone Trinamool Congress MLA and four Congress MLAs switched sides.

Robindfro Singh, who won the elections in Trinamool Congress ticket, joined BJP on Friday. Congress MLAs Y. Surchandra, N. Haokip, O. Lukhoi and S. Bira too joined the ruling party on Friday. In the past T. Shyamkumar and G. Insuanhao Zou from Congress joined BJP.

8.Tata-Docomo deal gets HC nod :-

The Delhi High Court on Friday approved a settlement of $1.18 billion between Tata Sons and Japanese telecom major NTT Docomo, allowing India’s oldest industrial conglomerate to buyout Japanese firm’s stake in the telecom joint venture.

9.Security forces foil bid to snatch service rifle in Kashmir :-

Security forces foiled a bid to snatch a service rifle in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Friday. One militant was also arrested.

Preliminary reports suggest that two militants forced their entry into a J&K Bank branch in Anantnag’s main town. “The militant approached a security personnel to snatch the rifle. However, he was overpowered,” said a police official.

Unconfirmed reports suggest one militant was arrested at the spot. The militant is a resident of adjoining district of Kulgam.

 10.Knight Riders post crushing win over Daredevils :-

Kolkata Knight Riders gave another display of exemplary team work, highlighted by Nathan Coulter-Nile’s three-wicket haul followed by Gautam Gambhir and Robin Uthappa’s half-centuries, to post a crushing seven-wicket win over Delhi Daredevils in the IPL-10 at the Eden Gardens here on Friday.

After restricting DD to 160 for six, KKR cruised to the winning target in 16.2 overs and strengthened its position with its seventh victory.
