1.External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj said: India won the election of United Nations Human Rights Council with majority:-

India has won the election of United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) with the majority of the United Nations’ highest human rights unit. It will be for three years, starting from January 1, 2019. India has got 188 votes in the Asia Pacific region category , which is the highest in all the candidates. The UN General Assembly of 193 members had elected the new members. 18 new members have been elected with full majority through secret election. Any country needs a minimum of 97 votes to become a member of the UNHRC.

India has confirmed its seat in the Asia-Pacific region. Apart from India, Bahrain , Bangladesh , Fiji and the Philippines were also trying their hands in the elections. In the voting, India has the highest number of 188 votes in these five countries. As for the five seats were five nations contesting , was believed to be the deciding winning India’s election.

Indian Ambassador and Permanent Representative in the UN Syed Akbaruddin said that India’s victory demonstrates its acceptance in the international community. After India’s victory in the election, he tweeted , ” Voting for a good purpose. Thanks for all our supporters in the UN. India won the seat of Human Rights Council winning the highest vote among all the candidates. ‘

India was previously elected to UNHRC based in Geneva for 2011-2014 and 2014-2017. The last tenure of India was completed on December 31, 2017. According to the rules, no country can fight for the third time immediately after two consecutive terms. Founded in March 2006, there are 47 elected member states in the UNHRC. Given the geographical situation, the members are divided into five regional groups. 13 members of the African States , 13 members of the Asia-Pacific , Eastern 6 member European States , Latin American and 8-8 members of the Caribbean States , are scheduled 7 seats for the Western European and Other States.

Elected new members , are the names of countries, Burkina Faso , Cameroon , Eritrea , Somalia , and Togo. These are all in the African States category. The Eastern European States Group includes Bulgaria and the Czech Republic , while the Latin American-Caribbean States category includes Argentina , Bahamas and Uruguay. Apart from this , new members of Austria , Denmark and Italy have been elected in the category of Western European and other states .

 

2.India has signed two agreements for financial grant for Sri Lanka to build 1,200 more houses for the poor:-

India signed  to grant Sri Lanka a grant of financial assistance for building 1,200 more houses for the poor and on Saturday. Under this, these houses will be built in 50 ideal villages. With this , assistance from Sri Lanka’s housing and construction ministry has been provided to build 2,400 houses in 100 model villages under the model village housing scheme from India. The Indian High Commission here said that India has made another agreement to grant a grant of 3.5 million dollars to build 1,200 housing in 50 model villages . India has already helped to construct 1200 houses. The purpose of this project is to provide housing for people of low income , landless and homeless people.

 

3.Home Minister Rajnath Singh will celebrate Dussehra with border security force personnel near India-Pakistan border in Rajasthan:-

Home Minister Rajnath Singh will visit Bikaner city of Rajasthan to spend time with the security personnel of BSF on the Indo-Pak border. He will worship Dussehra with jawans and worship the weapon. An official of the Home Ministry said that this will be the first time that a senior Union Minister will celebrate the festival with the security forces on the sensitive border with Pakistan. The Home Minister will assess the progress made in the field of infrastructure development. Last year, Mr. Rajnath Singh joined the Dussehra festival on the Indo-China border in Joshimath, Uttarakhand.

 

4.United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization’s award for Sikkim as the world’s first full organic agriculture state:-

Sikkim won the gold medal of United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization this year as the world’s first organic farming state. The organization said that Sikkim has been honored for best policies related to agricultural ecology and sustainable food system. United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization said that Sikkim’s policies helped more than 66 thousand farmers and encouraged tourism. In order to stop the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides and other options, Sikkim was declared a full organic agricultural state in 2016 . Chief Minister Pawan Chamling will receive this award in Rome.

 

5.Retina tissue developed in the laboratory:-

US scientists have had success in developing retinal tissue in the laboratory. This can be done to find out how cells enable people to recognize colors. This can lead to the development of treatment of diseases such as color blindness and macular degeneration. Color blindness weakens the ability of color blindness. Researchers at the Johns Hopkins University of America examined three cone photoreceptor cells of the human eye in the study.

 

6.Indian men and women’s hockey team reached the finals of youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires:-

In the women’s hockey competition of the third young Olympic Games in Buenos Aires, India’s men and women teams have reached the finals. Men’s team in the finals will face Malaysia while the women’s team will face hosts Argentina. India has so far won 3 gold and 5 silver.

India’s talented badminton player lost in straight sets to Lie Shifeng of China in the finals of goal games, and she had to be satisfied with the silver medal. 8.Preparation of National Transport Portal to reduce transportation cost:-

Complaints of heavy logistics i.e. in domestic and foreign trade have been happening from time to time. Ministry of Commerce and Industry is trying to solve this problem. He has planned to create a National Trade Portal. This will add all the parties related to domestic and foreign trade. This information was given by Joint Secretary Keshav Chandra of the Ministry.

In the workshop organized on the subject of competitiveness and FTA in the Indian textile sector (FTA), the online certificate system will also be included in this portal. This work is delayed due to the involvement of 88 government organizations in the certification process. They also discussed the problems faced by the textile sector. In his address, Aditya Raut, Business Advisor of the Textile Ministry, said that FTA is not a panacea for boosting exports. Still 63 percent of the country’s exports are without FTA.

 

9.Structural reforms strengthen economy: Subhash Chandra Garg:-

Economic Affairs Secretary Subhash Chandra Garg said on Saturday that due to structural reforms in taxation and bankruptcy laws, the country’s economy has been strengthened. At the International Monetary Fund (IMF) conference in Bali, Indonesia, Garg said that due to these reforms, the Indian economy has succeeded in surviving the instability of the world. The Secretary expressed confidence that the steps taken in the direction of reforms in recent times will help in eliminating the factors which put pressure on the economy.

In the session organized on the World Development Report, Garg said that the changes coming in digital technology are more fundamental and major changes than the invention of the steam engine, which is the foundation of the Industrial Revolution. Digital technology is changing the whole world. On the other hand , Garg said about the Hyundai Capital Index (HCI) that there is a need for continuous development in human resources and assets. Significantly, HCI was recently released under the World Bank’s Hyundai Capital Project. In this, India was ranked 115th in the list of 157 countries. In this index, India was also placed below neighboring Bangladesh , Nepal and Sri Lanka , whose government has been sharply criticized.
