1 Five commemorative books were released at Rashtrapati Bhavan to mark the completion of four years of President Draupadi Murmu’s tenure.
The Vice President of India, Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan , released and presented to the President the first set of five commemorative books, commemorating the completion of four years in office of the Honourable President of India, Smt. Draupadi Murmu, at Rashtrapati Bhavan. To mark the completion of four years in office of the Honourable President, Smt. Draupadi Murmu, four books, titled Rashtrapati Bhavan: The House of the Nation , Service and Condolence , and Celebrating Inclusive Participation and Indianness, were released at Rashtrapati Bhavan. These books were published by the Publications Division of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting . In addition to these books, another book, titled Aama Rashtrapati Aama Gaurav, was also released in Odia . Aama Rashtrapati Aama Gaurav is a collection of articles written by the Honourable President of India . Speaking on the occasion, the President said that the titles of these books reflect our belief in inclusive democracy. He expressed confidence that these photo-based books will familiarize readers with the traditions, functioning, and various aspects of Rashtrapati Bhavan. He said that their true significance lies in the fact that they inspire the countrymen to move forward on the path of development while taking pride in their heritage. The President said that when he assumed the office of the President of India on July 25, 2022 , it was more of a responsibility for him than an honour.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the Nasha Mukt Yuva for Vikasit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan on August 2nd , a 100-week nationwide mass participation movement against drug abuse . The campaign will be led by the My Bharat platform , an online youth leadership and social engagement platform. The platform aims to empower youth and inspire them to become leaders. The initiative aims to unite young citizens in a collective national mission to build a drug-free India by promoting awareness, community engagement, and sustained public participation. The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports informed that the campaign will see unprecedented participation from My Bharat volunteers, National Service Scheme (NSS) volunteers, youth clubs, schools, colleges, universities, and over 125 spiritual organizations.
On July 29 , the Lok Sabha passed the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026, related to paper leaks, by voice vote. This bill tightens laws related to paper leaks. The punishment for crimes related to paper leaks will now increase. The new bill provides for a maximum of 10 years in prison and a fine of up to ₹10 crore . This bill amends the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Bill, 2026. The new amendment mandates that investigations into paper leak cases be completed within a maximum of two months. The new amendment will allow cases to be heard in fast-track courts, ensuring a decision within approximately three months of the filing of the charge sheet. The law aims to restore transparency, accountability, and student confidence in examinations. The recent alleged paper leaks related to the NEET-UG 2026 exam have raised questions about the credibility of the examination system. In light of these incidents, the government has introduced this amendment to make the law more effective and stringent.
The Ministry of Panchayati Raj launched ‘Daanveer’, a citizen participation initiative aimed at strengthening the digital infrastructure of Gram Panchayats across the country, in New Delhi . The initiative was launched by Vivek Bhardwaj, Secretary, Ministry of Panchayati Raj. The Daanveer scheme, available through the Meri Panchayat mobile application, enables individuals and organizations to donate standardized, quality-verified computer bundles directly to eligible Gram Panchayats. The Ministry of Panchayati Raj said that the initiative integrates the Meri Panchayat app with the DigiHaat marketplace. This allows donors to choose from pre-approved computer bundles tailored to state-specific technical specifications.
Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia released the theme for the 10th India Mobile Congress to be held in New Delhi . Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Scindia said the theme, ” Expanding Without Borders ,” reflects India’s ambition to take telecom innovations, technologies, and digital solutions beyond national boundaries to deliver global benefits. He said the next phase of India’s telecom journey should focus on exporting indigenous innovations and shaping global technology standards.
The Delhi government has approved the Delhi Lakshmi Yojana . The scheme aims to economically empower women and provide them social security. This decision was made yesterday at a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta at the Delhi Secretariat . Under the scheme, eligible women will receive financial assistance of ₹2,500 per month . A provision of ₹5,110 crore has been made for this scheme in the 2026-27 budget. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated that the registration portal for this scheme will open on August 1. She stated that women between the ages of 21 and 60 with an annual family income of up to ₹250,000 will be eligible to benefit from this scheme .
7 Mahe class anti-submarine warfare corvette launched at Machilipatnam
Machilipatnam (BY 529), the seventh of eight anti-submarine shallow water vessels (ASW SWCs) built by Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) for the Indian Navy, was commissioned on 29 July 2026 by Smt. Gulrukh Anand in the presence of Vice Admiral Atul Anand, Additional Secretary, Department of Military Affairs. Machilipatnam derives its name from the historic port city of Machilipatnam, located in Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh. The ship is equipped with capabilities for undersea surveillance, anti-submarine warfare (ASW) operations, low-intensity maritime operations (LIMO), and mine-sweeping capabilities. The ship will further strengthen coastal defence and enhance maritime domain awareness.
8 Ministry of Tribal Affairs signs MoU with CSIR-NBRI to conserve rare, endangered and threatened (RET) medicinal plant species and protect traditional knowledge empowering tribal communities
In a significant initiative to promote tribal welfare , encourage sustainable livelihoods, and preserve traditional knowledge, the Ministry of Tribal Affairs (MoTA) , Government of India , has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the CSIR-National Botanical Research Institute (CSIR-NBRI), Lucknow. The primary objective of this three – year partnership is to establish a sustainable, synergistic relationship between the two organizations to promote research and development for the conservation and ethnobotanical evaluation of tribal biological resources across India . Under this agreement, tribal welfare and community sovereignty serve as the fundamental principles for all scientific activities. This partnership has a special focus on the conservation of rare, endangered, and threatened (RET) medicinal plant species, including the development of tissue culture facilities and specialized seed banks.
9 Celebrating 25 years of the Himalayan Chandra Telescope in Hanle
The 2-meter Himalayan Chandra Telescope (HCT) in Hanle , Ladakh, celebrated 25 years of successful operation with a conference. The conference highlighted its history, engineering challenges, scientific research, and future plans. Professor Annapurni Subramanian, Director of the IIA , noted that a unique feature of the telescope is that since June 2001, it has been remotely operated in real time from the IIA campus in Hosakote, Bengaluru, via a dedicated communication link to ISRO’s INSAT-3B satellite. She explained that the site has over 250 usable nights a year, and with less than 2.5 millimeters of precipitable water vapor and extremely transparent skies, it is ideal for near-infrared observations. The telescope produced its first scientific results in 2001, when a research paper studied the optical afterglow of a gamma-ray burst.
10 Kiran Thadimarri appointed as the new CFO of IndiGo
On July 28 , IndiGo (InterGlobe Aviation) appointed Kiran Thadimarri as its new Chief Financial Officer (CFO) . Kiran was currently IndiGo’s Deputy Financial Advisor . Kiran has previously worked as CFO at e-commerce company Udaan and General Electric. Kiran is a chartered accountant and has over 24 years of experience in the field of finance. Kiran will replace Gaurav Negi, who was appointed to the post in 2022. He will now be an advisor. IndiGo, or InterGlobe Aviation, is India’s largest and busiest airline. It was established in 2006.
11 Actor Rishab Shetty to receive the prestigious Leadership in Cinema Award
On July 29th , actor and director of the film “Kaantara, ” Rishab Shetty , was announced as the recipient of the prestigious “Leadership in Cinema Award.” This award will be presented to him at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) 2026. Shetty has been recognized for his contributions to regional cinema’s global recognition. According to the organizers, Shetty has successfully brought local traditions, folklore, and cultural heritage to audiences worldwide through his films, especially “Kaantara.” His film ” Kaantara ” effectively captured Indian folk culture on screen. The Melbourne Film Festival (IFFM) is considered the largest festival for Indian films. It will be held in Melbourne, Australia, from August 13th to 23rd.
12 Commonwealth Games: India wins gold and silver in Para Athletics 100m T-47 events
India has created history in para-athletics at the Commonwealth Games . India performed brilliantly in the men’s 100m T-47 event, winning both the gold and silver medals . Dilip Mahadu Gavit won the gold medal with a Games record and season’s best time of 10.71 seconds , while Mohammed Basil Morsingankath took the silver with a time of 10.83 seconds . This is India’s third gold medal at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games. Previously, Mirabai Chanu won the gold medal in the women’s 48kg weightlifting event and Sharmila Dhankhar won the gold medal in the women’s shot put F-57 para-athletics event. With these impressive performances, India’s total medal tally at the Commonwealth Games has now reached 15, including 3 gold, 9 silver, and 3 bronze.
13 Commonwealth Games 2026: Gulveer Singh won the silver medal
India’s impressive performance continued at the 2026 Commonwealth Games (CWG) . Gulvir Singh won the silver medal in the men’s 10,000 meters, clocking 27:49.78 seconds . Gulvir became the first Indian athlete to win a medal in the event.
14 CC Rankings: Shubman Gill is the world’s number one batsman in ODIs.
In the latest ICC rankings released on Wednesday, Indian team captain Shubman Gill has once again become the world’s number one batsman in ODIs. Meanwhile, Vaibhav Suryavanshi has also made significant gains in the T20I rankings . Following India’s 3-0 victory in the T20I series against Zimbabwe in Harare, Vaibhav has jumped 230 places in the latest T20I rankings. The 15-year-old has entered the top 50. In three matches against Zimbabwe, Vaibhav scored 151 runs at an average of 50.33 and was named Player of the Series. Vaibhav has reached a career-best ranking of 48th with 536 rating points. Ishan Kishan remains the world’s number one batsman in the shortest format of cricket. Ishan has 910 rating points. Tilak Varma has jumped two places to reach sixth position, while Shreyas Iyer has moved up seven places to 24th position.
