1.India ranks 46th in the ranking of the Global Innovation Index 2021

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman chaired the 45th meeting of the GST Council in Lucknow . Discussion on bringing petrol and diesel under the purview of GST in this meetingand many important decisions were taken. The issue of petrol and diesel was discussed as it was questioned by the Kerala High Court. However, the council decided not to keep petrol and diesel under GST. In this meeting, concessional GST rates on Kovid-19 related medicines were also announced, Which is applicable till 30 September. Now the date has been extended till 31st December 2021. The concessional rates of GST on medicines used in the treatment of Kovid-19 have been increased till 31 December. The tax rate on drugs used in the treatment of cancer has been reduced from 12% to 5%. The GST rate on blending of biodiesel with diesel has been reduced from 12% to 5%. This is not the right time to bring petroleum products under the purview of GST. A Group of State Ministers will be set up to look into the issues related to the rationalization of rates. This Group of Ministers will make recommendations in 2 months. E-commerce operators Swiggy and Zomato will come under GST. They will now have to pay GST on the restaurant service supplied through them. Another Group of Ministers will be set up to look into the issues of e-way bill, FASTag, compliance, technology, rectification, composition scheme etc.
