1.India ranks 46th in the ranking of the Global Innovation Index 2021
India has moved up two places to the 46th position in the World Intellectual Property Organization ‘s Global Innovation Index 2021 rankings . India’s position in this index has been improving for the past several years. In 2015 it was ranked 81st and this year has come down to 46th position. Innovation was paramount during the crisis caused by the pandemic. It will also play an important role in making the country self-reliant and transformative in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s concept of self-reliant India. India’s position in the Global Innovation Index has steadily improved due to the start-up system and the impressive work of private and public research organizations.
2.Charanjit Singh Channi sworn in as Chief Minister of Punjab
Shri Charan Jeet Singh Channi took oath as the Chief Minister of Punjab . He has become the 16th Chief Minister of the state. Governor Banwari Lal Purohit administered him the oath of office and secrecy in Chandigarh. Along with him, two senior MLAs Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa and OP Soni also took oath as cabinet ministers. 3.Two Indian projects named among 15 finalists for ‘Earthshot Award’

It has been nominated in the “ Clean Our Air Category ” for its affordable, small-scale, portable technology . This project converts crop residues into salable bio-products. The first environmental award, called the Earthshot Prize, was launched in 2020 by Britain’s Prince William (Duke of Cambridge) and David Attenborough.
4’Katli’ declared state fish of Sikkim
The Sikkim government has declared ‘ Cooper Mahseer ‘ locally known as ‘ Katley ‘ as the fish of the state . Neolissochilus hexagonolepis ( Neolissochilus hexagonolepisCooper is the scientific name of Mahseer. This decision has been taken to highlight the importance of Catli fish and to emphasize on its conservation measures. The fish has a high market value and is highly liked by the public in the state. The Sikkim government has also declared the state’s water bodies open for fishing activities. As per the existing provisions under the Sikkim Fisheries Rules, 1990, license will be issued by the Directorate of Fisheries to individual fishermen or fishermen cooperative societies or SHGs desirous of fishing in the reservoirs. The reservoirs are at Chungthang in North Sikkim, Legshep in West Sikkim along with Dikchu and Rorathang in East Sikkim.
5.Two-day review of work progress on Delhi-Mumbai Expressway
Recently, the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways concluded a two-day review of the progress of work on the eight-lane Delhi-Mumbai Expressway . This expressway will be the longest highway in the world and is expected to be completed by March 2023 . It is an eight-lane expressway of 1380 km which can be extended to 12-lane expressway depending on the traffic pressure. It starts from Sohna in Haryana and Mira Bhayander near Mumbai.Will end around These public amenities will be available on this lane – resorts, restaurants, food courts, fuel stations, facilities for truck drivers, logistics park. There will be a helicopter ambulance service for accident victims and a heliport which will also use drone services for business purposes. The expressway will also include two iconic 8-lane tunnels, one through Mukundra Sanctuary Rajasthan and the other through Matheran eco-sensitive region of Maharashtra. It will improve connectivity to economic centers like Jaipur, Kishangarh, Ajmer, Kota, Chittorgarh, Udaipur, Bhopal, Ujjain, Indore, Ahmedabad, Vadodara and Surat. This will result in annual fuel savings of over 320 million liters and a reduction in CO2 emissions. Thousands of people have also got employment from this project.

11.PEDA ties up with CESL for EV charging stations
Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA) has partnered with Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL) to set up public charging stations for electric vehicles in Punjab.signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with CESL is a subsidiary of Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL). The MoU was signed by Navjot Pal Singh Randhawa, Chief Executive Officer, PEDA. With the signing of this MoU and this collaboration with PEDA, CESL plans to expand its EV transition portfolio. It strives to provide accessible and affordable charging infrastructure in the state of Punjab. The partnership will also establish a roadmap for setting up public charging stations at multiple locations. PEDA was established in September 1991 as a state nodal agency to promote and develop renewable energy programs as well as energy conservation programs in Punjab. PEDA is registered as a Society under the Societies Act 1860. It works under the Department of New and Renewable Energy in the Government of Punjab.
12.World Bank Group to stop publishing ‘Doing Business’ report
The World Bank Group has decided to stop publishing its ” doing business report on the country’s investment climate ” because of allegations of irregularities . The decision was taken in the backdrop of an investigation into alleged data irregularities as there was pressure by top bank officials to raise China’s ranking in 2017. The World Bank also noted that, it will remain strongly committed to advancing the role of the private sector in development and providing support to governments in designing the regulatory environment that supports this. The World Bank is now working on a new approach to assess the business and investment environment.
13.90% people in Mumbai have COVID-19 antibodies: Sero survey
A new sero survey was conducted between August 12 and September 9, 2021, in anticipation of the third wave of COVID-19 infections . This is the fourth sero survey of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation. This study was done on 8,674 samples. These samples were collected completely systematically from people visiting municipal dispensaries and doctors’ offices in all 24 wards and slum as well as non-slum areas of the city. According to the report, the Greater Mumbai area in Kovid -19 antibody 86.64% peoplewas found. This means that they have been exposed to the coronavirus at least once. Scientists are still emphasizing on the use of face masks and hand sanitizers in public places. There is no significant difference between slum and non-slum populations, with a prevalence of 87.02% to 86.22%, respectively. The report found little difference between men and women. The prevalence of sero in males was 85.07% while that in females was 88.29%.
14.Ministry of Law and Justice launched “Ek Pahal Drive”
Law and Justice Ministry to unleash household justice ” an initiative drive ” ( Ek Pahal Drive has launched a pan-Indian special campaign). This campaign has been started to encourage mass registration under Tele-Law . The campaign was launched by the Department of Justice and NALSA. The campaign seeks to realize the aspiration of access to justice for citizens in India. The Preamble to the Constitution of India recognizes justice as the first delivery to the citizens of India. A successful and vibrant democracy is one where every citizen not only gets guaranteed justice, but where justice is equitable. This principle mandates for the state to create an environment where justice-delivery is seen as a citizen-centred service rather than a sovereign function.
15.45th GST Council Meeting
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman chaired the 45th meeting of the GST Council in Lucknow . Discussion on bringing petrol and diesel under the purview of GST in this meetingand many important decisions were taken. The issue of petrol and diesel was discussed as it was questioned by the Kerala High Court. However, the council decided not to keep petrol and diesel under GST. In this meeting, concessional GST rates on Kovid-19 related medicines were also announced, Which is applicable till 30 September. Now the date has been extended till 31st December 2021. The concessional rates of GST on medicines used in the treatment of Kovid-19 have been increased till 31 December. The tax rate on drugs used in the treatment of cancer has been reduced from 12% to 5%. The GST rate on blending of biodiesel with diesel has been reduced from 12% to 5%. This is not the right time to bring petroleum products under the purview of GST. A Group of State Ministers will be set up to look into the issues related to the rationalization of rates. This Group of Ministers will make recommendations in 2 months. E-commerce operators Swiggy and Zomato will come under GST. They will now have to pay GST on the restaurant service supplied through them. Another Group of Ministers will be set up to look into the issues of e-way bill, FASTag, compliance, technology, rectification, composition scheme etc.
16.Indian Coast Guard (ICG) seized two tonnes of sea cucumber
Recently, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) has released two tons of sea cucumber in the Gulf of Mannar and Palk Bay areas in Tamil Nadu ., which is a restricted marine species, was confiscated. Sea cucumbers are marine invertebrates commonly found on the ocean floor in tropical regions. They are named after their unusual oblong shape that resembles a plump cucumber. There are about 1,250 species of sea cucumbers, all belonging to the taxonomic class Holothuroidea. They are an integral part of coral ecosystems as sea cucumbers release calcium carbonate as the main byproduct after metabolism, which is essential for the survival of coral reefs. They act as waste collectors of the marine world and recycle nutrients, thus playing an important role in keeping coral reefs in optimal condition.
