1 General N.S. Rajasubramani appointed CDS

On May 31, General N.S. Raja Subramani assumed office as the country’s new Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) . Immediately after assuming office, General Subramani was given a guard of honour at South Block Lawns in Delhi. General Subramani also holds the position of Chief of the Department of Military Affairs (DMA) in the Defence Ministry . General Subramani is the country’s third CDS and succeeds General Anil Chauhan , who retired on Saturday. General Subramani was commissioned into the 8th Battalion of the Garhwal Rifles on December 14, 1985. General Subramani became the Khadga Corps Commander in 2021. The Khadga Corps is the Army’s most powerful and dangerous strike corps. General Subramani became the Chief of Staff of the Northern Command and assumed the Goa-in-C Central Command in 2023. General Subramani became the Vice Chief of the Army Staff in 2024. General Subramani became the Military Advisor in the National Security Council Secretariat in 2025.
2 Admiral Krishna Swaminathan becomes the 27th Chief of Naval Staff.

On May 31 , Admiral Krishna Swaminathan became the 27th Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) of the country . He replaced Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi . Swaminathan joined the Indian Navy on July 1, 1987. Admiral Swaminathan has expertise in communications and electronic warfare. Admiral Swaminathan has commanded warships such as INS Vidyut, INS Vinash, INS Kulish, INS Mysore, and INS Vikramaditya. Admiral Swaminathan has served as the Chief of Staff (Training) Officer of the Southern Naval Command. Admiral Swaminathan served as the Vice Chief of Naval Staff from May 2024 to July 2025. Admiral Swaminathan served as the Flag Officer Training from July 2025 to May 2026. Admiral Swaminathan became the Chief of Naval Staff on May 9, 2026.
3 Vice Admiral Sanjay Vatsayan, PVSM, AVSM, NM assumes charge as Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Naval Command

Vice Admiral Sanjay Vatsayan , PVSM, AVSM, NM assumed charge as the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Naval Command at a ceremonial parade held in Mumbai on 30 May 2026. Prior to this, he served as the Deputy Chief of the Naval Staff at Naval Headquarters, New Delhi.

To mark the bicentenary of Hindi journalism, Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia released a commemorative postage stamp and first-day cover in New Delhi in honour of the first Hindi newspaper, ‘Udant Martand’ . Hindi Journalism Day is celebrated every year on May 30, as the first issue of Udant Martand was published on this day. The first issue of Udant Martand, the first Hindi newspaper, was published from Kolkata on May 30, 1826. At that time, newspapers in English, Persian, and Bengali languages were published in India, but there was no newspaper in Hindi. Recognizing this shortcoming, Pandit Jugal Kishore Shukla started this newspaper for Hindi-speaking people. He was originally from the Kanpur region of Uttar Pradesh and practiced law in Calcutta.
5 Indian Haj Missions Receive Two Prestigious Labbaitum Awards by Saudi Ministry of Haj and Umrah

The Indian Haj Mission has won two prestigious awards at this year’s Khitmahu Misk ceremony held in Saudi Arabia . This is a historic achievement for India. The Labbaitum Awards , given annually by the Saudi Haj Ministry to recognize outstanding services to pilgrims, were presented to the Indian Haj Mission under the Best Haj Coordination and Communication category . The ceremony marks the formal conclusion of the Haj season. Consul General Fahad Suri and Consul-Haj Sadaf Chaudhary represented India at the ceremony. This year, approximately 175,000 Indians performed Haj. The Labbaitum Awards are given to the country that has performed the best service during Haj.
6 UP government appoints senior IPS officer Rajiv Krishna as new DGP

The Uttar Pradesh government has appointed senior Indian Police Service officer Rajiv Krishna as the state’s new Director General of Police . With this appointment, he becomes the state’s first permanent police chief after 2022.
7 Indian women wrestlers won a total of 10 medals at the Under-17 Asian Wrestling Championships

Indian women wrestlers performed brilliantly at the Under-17 Asian Wrestling Championships in Da Nang, Vietnam, winning a total of 10 medals, including two gold, three silver, and five bronze . Deeksha in the 43 kg category and Garima in the 73 kg category won gold medals with impressive victories in their final bouts . Nikita in the 49 kg category , Antara in the 65 kg category , and Tania in the 69 kg category won silver medals. Bronze medal winners included Palak in the 40 kg category, Anamika in the 46 kg category, Akshara in the 53 kg category, Sakshi in the 57 kg category, and Manya in the 61 kg category. Meanwhile, at the Under-23 Asian Wrestling Championships, India’s men’s freestyle team performed brilliantly, winning the best team title. In freestyle, India defeated Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan to claim the top spot.
8 India’s Mogli Venkatram won gold at the Asian Under-20 Athletics Championships

India’s Mogli Venkatram won the gold medal in the men’s 800m race at the Asian Under-20 Athletics Championships in Hong Kong . This was India’s first gold medal at this year’s competition . Indian athletes also performed brilliantly in the relay events . The women’s team of Bhumika, Tahura, Sehnoor, and Neeru won the gold medal in the 4x400m . The Indian team also set a new championship record with a time of 3 minutes 38.07 seconds . The women’s quartet of Kajal, Bhavna, Aarti, and Nipam won the silver medal in the 4x100m with a time of 45.05 seconds, setting a new junior national record . The men’s team of Piyush Raj, Syed Sabir, Ranjeet Kumar, and Mohammad Ashfaq won the bronze medal in the 4x400m , setting a new junior national record with a time of 3 minutes 5.54 seconds . This championship is a qualifying event for the World Under-20 Athletics Championships. The World Championships will be held from August 5 to 9 in Eugene, Oregon, USA.
9 Royal Challengers Bangalore defeated Gujarat Titans to win their second consecutive IPL title

In IPL cricket , Royal Challengers Bangalore won their second consecutive IPL title by defeating Gujarat Titans by five wickets in the final match played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad . Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Mithun Manhas and BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia presented the IPL 2026 title to Bangalore captain Rajat Patidar . In the final match, Gujarat Titans set a target of 156 runs for Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Virat Kohli’s unbeaten 75 helped Bangalore win the match with two overs to spare. Rajasthan player Vaibhav Suryavanshi was named Player of the Series . Suryavanshi also won the Orange Cap by scoring 776 runs , becoming the youngest player to receive the Orange Cap at the age of 15. Kagiso Rabada won the Purple Cap with 29 wickets in the season . Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty have won the men’s doubles title of the Singapore Open badminton tournament . The pair defeated Indonesia’s Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Shohibul Fikri in the final.
11 Football: PSG wins second consecutive UEFA Champions League title

In football , Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has won the UEFA Champions League title for the second consecutive time . In the final in Budapest , PSG defeated Arsenal 4-3 in a penalty shootout . Arsenal took the lead in the sixth minute through Kai Havertz. PSG’s Ousmane Dembele then scored a penalty in the 65th minute to level the score at 1-1. After the stipulated 90 minutes and then an additional 30 minutes, both teams remained tied. The winner was then decided by a penalty shootout. The UEFA Champions League is Europe’s biggest club football competition. Top club teams from different countries participate in it.
