1 Government announces 29th National e-Governance Awards for the year 2026
The government announced the 29th National e-Governance Awards for the year 2026. The Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions stated that a total of 17 awards will be given to those who have achieved excellence in the field of e-governance. These include 10 Gold Awards, 6 Silver Awards, and one Jury Award . According to the ministry, these awards are given annually to encourage the successful and effective implementation of e-governance projects and to recognize outstanding work. These awards will be presented during the 29th National e-Governance Conference to be held in Jaipur, Rajasthan. The prominent projects receiving the Gold Awards include the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare’s “Agri Stack,” the Ministry of Consumer Affairs’ “e-Jagriti,” the Prayagraj Mela Authority’s “Mahakumbh 2025,” the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare’s AI-enabled “e-Sanjeevani” system, and the Indian Council of Medical Research’s ICMR-MINDS project. Apart from this, the District Court Case Management System of Kerala High Court, Cyber Security Project of Space Applications Centre-ISRO, e-Municipality Cyber Security Initiative of Urban Development and Housing Department and Integrated Cyber Security Framework of Bank of Baroda were also awarded the Gold Award. The projects which received the Gold Award include ‘e-Arogya Dhamani’ of Nandurbar Zilla Parishad, Maharashtra, ‘Pune 360’ of Pune Municipal Corporation, Kadepur Gram Panchayat of Sangli District, Maharashtra, Bijay Nagar Gram Panchayat of West Tripura District, Tripura, AI based ‘Trinetra’ monitoring system of Mahakaleshwar Temple Trust, Ujjain and ‘Panchayat Unnati Index’ of Ministry of Panchayati Raj.
2 NASA has announced the end of the mission of its Maven spacecraft orbiting Mars.
NASA has announced the end of the mission of its MAVEN spacecraft orbiting Mars . After nearly six months of no contact, NASA confirmed that the mission, which lasted more than a decade, has ended. Launched in 2013 , MAVEN was intended to study the Martian atmosphere . Contact with the spacecraft was lost after it passed behind Mars in December last year. Investigations revealed that the spacecraft began to spin rapidly, affecting its orbit and draining its batteries. A NASA review committee has concluded that the spacecraft cannot be reactivated. According to scientists, it will remain in Mars orbit for the next 50 to 100 years, after which it will crash into the planet’s surface.
3 West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari announced development of new port at Dadan Patrabar in East Medinipur.
West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari announced that a new port will be developed at Dadan Patrabar in East Medinipur district . The decision comes after the Adani Group withdrew from a proposed deep-sea port project at Tajpur . Following a meeting with Ports, Shipping and Waterways Minister Sarbananda Sonowal in Kolkata, the Chief Minister explained that Tajpur lacks the necessary land, rail, and highway connectivity. A government assessment concluded that building a port there would be unviable.
Telangana has signed a cooperation agreement with the German state of Thuringia . The agreement focuses on technology, skills training, startups, and life sciences . Thuringia’s Chief Minister Mario Vogt met Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy in Hyderabad. Vogt praised Telangana’s economic growth and called it a leading center of progress and innovation in India. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy stressed the need for skills training programs suitable for AI. He said Telangana wants to train workers for countries like Germany, Japan, and South Korea.
5 Russia hands over S-400 air defense systems to India
On June 3 , Russia handed over the fourth squadron of the S-400 air defense system to India. India signed a $5.43 billion deal with Russia in 2018 for five S-400 air defense systems . Three S-400 squadrons have already been inducted into service, and now India has received its fourth S-400 squadron. The S-400 is the most advanced long-range air defense system, capable of targeting enemy jets, aircraft, and drones within a range of 400 km. The S-400’s artificial intelligence system will signal missiles, fighter jets, drones, and cruise missiles. The S-400 also played a key role in air defense during Operation Sindoor.

Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri and Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari launched India’s first flex-fuel passenger car in New Delhi . It is manufactured by Maruti Suzuki . Flex-fuel vehicles are vehicles that can run on different blends of petrol and ethanol. They can use fuel ranging from 20 percent ethanol to 100 percent ethanol. Maruti Suzuki WagonR is India’s first flex car capable of running on E85 petrol and was unveiled by Union Ministers Nitin Gadkari and Hardeep Singh Puri.
Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari and Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri attended the launch of Hero MotoCorp ‘s first flex-fuel motorcycles in New Delhi . These motorcycles support fuels ranging from E20 to E85. These new motorcycles are positioned in the popular 100cc segment , allowing a wide range of customers to benefit from this new technology. The company has launched two flex-fuel motorcycles: the Hero Splendor Plus Flex Fuel and the Hero HF Deluxe Flex Fuel . This technology can reduce carbon monoxide emissions by up to 77 percent. Gadkari stated that promoting flex-fuel vehicles will reduce dependence on petroleum imports and could save the country approximately ₹1.44 lakh crore in foreign exchange.

9 Indian Air Force creates history, Sukhoi-30 MKI lands at Navi Mumbai airport for the first time
The Indian Air Force created history on Thursday. The Air Force’s state-of-the-art Sukhoi-30MKI fighter aircraft landed for the first time at Navi Mumbai International Airport . According to experts, the successful landing of a fighter aircraft at a civilian airport demonstrates that, if necessary, the airport can also be used for military operations, emergency deployments, and national security-related tasks. It also signals the growing coordination between India’s civil and military aviation infrastructure. Previously, in October 2024 , the Indian Air Force’s C-295 transport aircraft made its first historic landing on the same airport runway . On that occasion, the Sukhoi-30MKI performed a flypast. It is noteworthy that the Sukhoi-30MKI is one of India’s most important fighter aircraft. Recently , the Indian Air Force launched the “Vayushakti” parade in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. demonstrated its military capabilities extensively during the “Vayushakti” exercise in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. President Draupadi Murmu and Air Force Chief AP Singh were also present at this major exercise, called “Vayushakti-26.”

Indian-origin cardiologist Dr. Sudhir Srivastava has set a new world record. successfully performed remote heart surgery on a patient in Guyana using robotic technology while in India . The surgery was performed using an Indian-developed surgical robotic system. This is considered the world’s longest-distance robotic heart surgery and a major medical achievement. This tele-surgery was conducted between Georgetown Public Hospital in Guyana and IRCAD India in Indore, India. Medical teams from both countries worked together to make this surgery a success. The entire robotic surgery took 4 hours and 50 minutes to complete.

World Environment Day is celebrated every year on June 5th . It is not just a formal event, but a global campaign to maintain balance between humans and nature. World Environment Day originated in 1972. That year, the United Nations organized the first global conference on the human environment in Stockholm, Sweden . At this conference, it was decided to give environmental protection an international priority. Subsequently, the United Nations General Assembly declared June 5th as World Environment Day. The day was first celebrated in 1974 and has since become one of the world’s largest environmental public awareness campaigns.
