President  Draupadi Murmu has appointed governors  in  various states  . Former Speaker of Maharashtra Assembly Haribhau Kisanrao Bagde  has   been appointed as Governor of  Rajasthan .  Former Deputy Chief Minister of  Tripura Jishnu Dev Verma   will be the Governor of  Telangana . Former Rajya Sabha MP from Rajasthan Om Prakash Mathur  has been  appointed as Governor of Sikkim  and former Union Minister  Santosh Kumar Gangwar  has   been appointed as Governor of  Jharkhand .  Former Lok Sabha MP from  Assam Ramen Deka  has been  appointed as Governor of Chhattisgarh  and  former Karnataka  Minister  C.H. Vijay Shankar  has  been appointed as Governor of Meghalaya  . Current Governor of Jharkhand  C.P. Radhakrishnan   will be the Governor of  Maharashtra .  Current Governor of  Assam Gulab Chand Kataria  has been appointed as  Governor of Punjab and  Administrator of  Union Territory  Chandigarh . Current Governor of Sikkim  Laxman Prasad Acharya  has  been appointed as Governor of Assam  . He   has also been given  additional charge  of Governor of  Manipur . Former Indian Administrative Service officer K. Kailashnathan  has been appointed as the Lieutenant Governor of  Puducherry  .

2 Announcing her candidacy for the US presidency, Vice President Kamala Harris today officially filed her nomination

 Announcing her candidacy for  the US presidency , Vice President Kamala Harris  officially filed her nomination. In a social media post, 59-year-old Harris expressed confidence that she  will win the presidential election  to be held on  November 5.  In the latest survey released recently, Kamala Harris has received a tremendous support of 70 percent  of Democratic voters  . The survey also indicated that Democrats are uniting behind Harris. Harris’s new candidacy will soon unite the badly divided Democratic Party.

3 This year UNESCO added 25 new historical sites to the World Heritage List at the 46th World Heritage Committee session at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi

This year  UNESCO added 25 new historical sites to the World Heritage List  at   the  46th World Heritage Committee Session  at  Bharat Mandapam , New Delhi  . Apart from this, the committee  has also formalized two important amendments  . These   include 13  new  sites including Sado Island Gold Mines of JapanPhu Phrabat Historical Park of ThailandNelson Mandela Heritage Site for Human Rights ,  Liberation and Reconciliation of South Africa , Via Appia  of   Italy  and  Beijing Central Axis  of  China  . 19 sites have been included as cultural heritage sites, while 4 sites have been included in the natural category and 2 in the mixed category. Moidams in Assam, India has been included as India’s 43rd  World Heritage Site  . Moidams has brought the country to the sixth position globally in terms of the highest number of World Heritage properties.

4 Now Agniveers will get 10% reservation in Rajasthan too

Army  ‘s  Agniveers  will also be given reservation in  Rajasthan . Chief Minister  Bhajanlal Sharma  announced   this on the occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas Silver Jubilee . Chief Minister Sharma said that Army’s  Agniveers  will be given reservation in the recruitment of  Rajasthan Police, Forest Guard and Jail Guard  . After the announcement of the Chief Minister, it will soon be decided how much percentage of reservation will be given to Agniveers in these recruitments. On Kargil Vijay Diwas,  BJP governments  of  five states have announced 10 percent reservation  in jobs to Agniveers   . Along with Rajasthan, 10 percent reservation will be given   in Police Service and PAC in  Uttar Pradesh , Police and Armed Forces in Madhya Pradesh,  Police and Forest Guard Recruitment in  Chhattisgarh , Police Recruitment in Odisha  and  Government Jobs in Uttarakhand  . The government launched the Agneepath Scheme in 2022. Under this, youth are recruited on contract for four years in Army, Navy and Air Force. Four years also include six months of training. After four years, Agniveers will be given rating on the basis of their efficiency. On the basis of this merit, 25 percent of Agniveers will be taken into permanent service.

5 Google launches AlphaProof and AlphaGeometry 2

Google DeepMind , the artificial intelligence research division of Alphabet Inc,   said it has made progress in solving complex mathematical problems, which remains a challenging area for today’s AI programs. Google  launched AlphaProof  , which specializes in mathematical reasoning, and  AlphaGeometry 2 , an updated version of a model focused on geometry that the company launched earlier this year. Google said in a blog post that these programs  succeeded in four of the six problems  included in  the International Mathematical Olympiad , an annual competition in which students tackle topics such as algebra and geometry.

6 Mankind Pharma to acquire Bharat Serums & Vaccines; Deal finalised for Rs 13,630 crore

Mankind Pharma  may soon acquire a  vaccine  manufacturing company.  Mankind Pharma will fully acquire  Bharat Serums and Vaccines   from  Advent International . The deal has been finalized for Rs 13,630 crore  . The company issued a statement saying that Mankind Pharma will acquire Bharat Serums and Vaccines for Rs 13,630 crore. The company has finalized the agreement to buy 100 percent stake in Bharat Serums and Vaccines (BSV) for about Rs 13,630 crore. This strategic move is considered important for the drug manufacturer. This will help it emerge as a leader in the Indian women’s health and reproductive medicine market.

7 AU Small Finance Bank seeks universal banking license

 The board of  AU Small Finance Bank has approved the proposal for conversion  from  Small Finance Bank (SFB) to Universal Bank  . The decision is in line with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) guidelines issued on August 1, 2016 and the circular issued on voluntary conversion of SFBs into Universal Banks dated April 26, 2024. The board appointed a Committee of Directors headed by H.R. Khan to examine the application for universal banking licence.

8 China wins first gold at Paris Olympics 2024

On 27 July,  China  ‘s  10 meter air rifle   pair of  Huang  Yuting  and  Sheng Lihao won the first gold  in  the Paris Olympics  . Within half an hour of this gold, China has doubled its number of gold medals. Chang and Yiwen Chen performed best in their five dives and won the gold medal with the top score in each round. This is China’s sixth consecutive Olympic medal. Meanwhile, Sarah Bacon and Cassidy Cook won the silver medal for the USA, while Yasmin Harper and Scarlett Mu Jensen won the bronze medal, giving Great Britain its first medal in this competition. The  opening ceremony of the Olympics was held in the Seine River in Paris  . Players from all over the world participated in the 6 km long Parade of Nations on the waves of the Seine River. The Indian team came 84th in the parade.

9 Former Indonesian Vice President Hamzah Haz dies at the age of 84

Hamzah HazIndonesia  ‘s  vice president  from 2001 to 2004,  has died. He was 84. Hamzah, who served under President  Megawati Sukarnoputri,  died at a hospital in Jakarta on July 24, a Development Planning Party (PPP) politician said in a local interview. He also served as investment minister as well as coordinating minister for people’s welfare under previous administrations. He was one of the contenders in the 2004 presidential election. Hamzah Haz was a key figure in the PPP, one of Indonesia’s main Islamist political parties, with his leadership playing a key role in shaping the party’s policies and direction over the years.
