2.INS Visakhapatnam formally commissioned into Indian Navy

INS Visakhapatnam has been formally commissioned into the Indian Navy in the presence of Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai yesterday. INS Visakhapatnam is a P15B stealth-guided missile destroyer indigenously designed by the Indian Navy.

Speaking on the occasion, the Defense minister Rajnath Singh said Indian Navy’s role is very important as India is a part of the Indo-Pacific route. He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s policy of SAGAR embodies the values that open up every opportunity to build India into an indigenous ship-building hub. The Minister also appreciated the self-reliance efforts of the Indian Navy. He said the Navy’s order of 39 of the 41 ships and submarines from Indian shipyards is a testament to their commitment towards achieving ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’.

The Union Home Minister Amit Shah virtually laid the foundation stone for Rani Gaidinliu Tribal Freedom Fighters Museum to be constructed at Luangkao Village in Tamenglong District of Manipur today. The museum will be constructed under the funding of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs with an estimated cost of 15 crore rupees.

Addressing the gathering, Mr Shah stated that the museum would be constructed honouring the contribution made by freedom fighters of the state during the freedom struggle against British Rule. He said that construction of such a museum and paying respect to freedom fighters would imbibe a sense of nationalism among youths of the country.

Stating the contribution of Rani Gaidinliu in the freedom struggle, the Union Home Minister said that the whole country has known her as Rani honouring her contribution. He also maintained that the freedom struggle of India would have been incomplete without the then various revolts and uprisings which had taken place in different parts of the country.

The Union Home Minister also mentioned the three objectives behind celebrating Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav throughout the country, which was remembering the contribution of freedom fighters during the freedom struggle, imbibing a sense of nationalism in every citizen to contribute to the development of the country and making India one of the most developed countries when the country attains its 100 years of Independence.

4.Labour and Employment Minister Bhupender Yadav initiates first ever All India Domestic Workers Survey

Labour and Employment Minister Bhupender Yadav today flagged off the first ever All India Domestic Workers Survey. The survey will cover  742 districts in 37  States and Union territories.

The objective is to estimate the number and proportion of domestic workers at the national and state level and find out household estimates of live-in and live-out domestic workers.

Besides, it will also estimate the average number of domestic workers engaged by different types of households. The Minister said the survey will help the government understand significant issues and chart evidence-based data-driven policies.

5.President Kovind confers Gallantry Awards and Distinguished Service Decorations to Armed Forces Personnel

President Ram Nath Kovind today presented Gallantry Awards and Distinguished Service Decorations to Armed Forces Personnel for displaying indomitable courage and extreme devotion to duty at the Defence Investiture Ceremony held in Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Sapper Prakash Jadhav from Corps of Engineers accorded the second-highest peacetime gallantry award Kirti Chakra ,posthumously, for neutralising terrorists in an operation in Jammu and Kashmir . His wife and mother received the award from President .

Major Vibhuti Shankar Dhoundiyal accorded the Shaurya Chakra posthumously for his role in an operation where five terrorists were eliminated and 200 kg explosive material was recovered. His wife Lt Nitika Kaul and mother Saroj Dhoundiyal received the award. Naib Subedar Sombir accorded Shaurya Chakra posthumously for killing an A category terrorist during an operation in Jammu and Kashmir. His wife and mother received the award.

Group Captain Abhinandan Varthaman who shot down a Pakistani F-16 fighter aircraft aerial combat was honoured with Vir Chakra.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Minister of State for Defence Ajay Bhatt  were present on the occasion along with other dignitaries.
