IBPS Clerk Eligibility Criteria

 

Criteria Details
Nationality Citizen of India, or a subject of Nepal/Bhutan, or a Tibetan refugee who came to India before 01.01.1962, or a person of Indian origin migrated from specified countries with an eligibility certificate from the Government of India
Age (as on 01.08.2026) Minimum 20 years, Maximum 28 years (born not earlier than 02.08.1998 and not later than 01.08.2006)
Educational Qualification (as on 21.08.2026) A Degree (Graduation) in any discipline from a University recognised by the Government of India, or an equivalent qualification recognised by the Central Government
Local Language Proficiency Candidates must be proficient in reading, writing, speaking and understanding the specified/opted local language of the State/UT they apply for (see Local Language Proficiency Test section)
Computer Literacy Mandatory – a Certificate/Diploma/Degree in computer operations, or having studied Computer/IT as a subject in High School/College

IBPS Clerk Age Limit

The standard age limit is 20 to 28 years as on 01.08.2026. Relaxation in the upper age limit is available to reserved categories as follows:

Age relaxation for SC/ST/OBC candidates is available cumulatively with only one of the other relaxation categories listed above (Point II 3 to 5 of the notification), not with more than one.

The application fee (inclusive of GST) must be paid online between 01.08.2026 and 21.08.2026:

There is a penalty of one-fourth (0.25) of the marks assigned to a question for each wrong answer in both the Preliminary and Main Examinations. No penalty applies to unattempted questions. Candidates must clear individual cut-offs in each test as well as an overall cut-off. Only marks obtained in the Main Examination are considered for the final merit list; Preliminary Exam marks are used only for shortlisting.

Local Language Proficiency Test (LLPT)

Candidates must be proficient in the local language of the State/UT they apply for. Candidates who have studied that language up to Class 10 or above are exempt from a separate test. Others must clear a qualifying (marks-based) Local Language Proficiency Test conducted after the Main Exam/provisional allotment but before joining – failing this test means disqualification from the process.
