1 In javelin throw, Neeraj Chopra won silver in Diamond League

Javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra  has   won   the silver medal  of the Diamond League . In Brussels , the capital  of  Belgium  , Neeraj  threw 87.86 meters  which was his best throw and he missed winning the gold by a margin of just 1 centimeter. The  gold medal  of the competition was won by  Paris Olympics bronze medalist  Anderson Peters  . Julian Weber  of  Germany  remained at third place. This is the second consecutive time that Neeraj has been the runner-up in the Diamond League.

2 Eye drops that help in reading without glasses are banned

The Drug Controller General of India (DCGI)  on Wednesday  cancelled the manufacturing and marketing license  of  an eye drop called  Presvu   . This eye drop was made by Mumbai-based pharmaceutical company  Antod Pharmaceuticals  . After applying the eye drop in the eyes, there will be no need to wear glasses and one can easily read books without glasses.  The Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO)  had given permission to this eye drop with the condition that it  should be used only on the advice of a doctor  . The company is accused of promoting its purchase without a prescription. This eye drop was to be launched in the market in October.

3 NSA Ajit Doval met Russian President Putin

India’s  National Security Advisor (NSA)  Ajit Doval  met   Russian  President  Vladimir Putin  on 12 September . The meeting took place at the Konstantinovsky Palace  in  St. Petersburg  . During the talks, Putin discussed the development of strategic partnership between India and Russia. The talks emphasized the importance of security issues in bilateral relations. This meeting took place during  the conference of National Security Advisors of  BRICS (Brazil-Russia-India-China-South Africa)  countries  . During this, Putin invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit Russia for the BRICS summit to be held in Kazan, Russia next month. Along with this, the Russian President also proposed a bilateral meeting with PM Modi on October 22 during the BRICS summit. Earlier, Ajit Doval held extensive talks with his Russian counterpart Sergei Shoigu and discussed important issues of mutual interests. Doval’s visit to Russia comes two and a half weeks after PM Modi’s visit to Ukraine.

 4 Two astronauts did a spacewalk 700 km above the earth

 On September 12, in  the Polaris Dawn mission  of  Elon Musk  ‘s company  SpaceX, 2 astronauts  did  a spacewalk about 700 kilometers above the Earth  . During the spacewalk, the speed of the spacecraft was 25,000 km per hour. This  is the first spacewalk done from a private spacecraft  . In this mission, 4 astronauts have gone into space. Out of these, two astronauts,  Mission Commander Jared Isaacman and Mission Specialist Sarah Gillis,  went out for a spacewalk for about 10 minutes. After Mission Commander Jared Isaacman did a spacewalk, Mission Specialist Sarah Gillis came out of the spacecraft. After the spacewalk, the hatch of the spacecraft was closed. In this 5-day mission, the astronauts have gone to an orbit in which no astronaut has gone for more than 50 years. The  mission was launched from the Falcon-9 rocket of Elon Musk’s company. In the Polaris Dawn mission  , the astronauts have gone in  SpaceX’s  Crew Dragon capsule .

5 Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde inaugurated the North Bound Connector Bridge

Maharashtra  Chief Minister  Eknath Shinde  and Deputy Chief Minister  Devendra Fadnavis  inaugurated   the North Bound Connector Bridge  on 12 September . This is a bridge connecting Mumbai’s Coastal Road and Bandra Worli Sea Link.  If you are in South Mumbai and want to go to North Mumbai, you can reach Bandra directly using the Bandra Worli Sea Link from Marine Drive to Coastal Road. The journey from South Mumbai to North Mumbai can now be completed in just 20 to 25 minutes. Earlier this journey used to take 40-60 minutes. This bridge can be traveled on from Monday to Friday from 7 am to 11 pm. It will remain closed for maintenance on Saturday and Sunday. Also, the second part of the Coastal Road can be opened for traffic by connecting to the Sea Link by December 2024. Earlier it was to be inaugurated by August 15, but due to rain and high tide the work was delayed by a month.

9 Algeria joins the BRICS New Development Bank

Algeria  has  been approved as the newest member of  the BRICS New Development Bank   ,   joining other countries seeking alternatives to international financial institutions such as the  World Bank  and  the IMF . Apart from Algeria, the BRICS New Development Bank  has welcomed other countries including  Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Iran and Saudi Arabia as part of its growing membership. Established by the BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) in 2015,  the NDB aims to support infrastructure and sustainable development projects in emerging economies and developing countries.

10 Union Bank of India becomes the first major bank to join PCAF

Union Bank of India has become the first major Indian bank to join  the Partnership for Carbon Accounting Financials (PCAF)   on September 9, 2024   , signifying its commitment to manage and reduce its indirect emissions. The decision reflects the growing global focus on climate risk management and is in line with the recently released draft guidelines on climate risk disclosures issued by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). PCAF is a global initiative that aims to provide standardised assessments and disclosures of greenhouse gas emissions related to financial activities, including lending and investments, and is in line with the Reserve Bank of India’s draft guidelines on climate risk disclosures.

11 Syria won the fourth Intercontinental Cup football championship

The fourth Intercontinental Cup men’s football championship   concluded with a resounding victory for  Syria as they defeated defending champions India  by a decisive 3-0 in the final round-robin match. Held from September 3 to 9, 2024 at the GMC Balayogi Gachibowli Stadium   in   HyderabadTelangana , the tournament showcased Syria’s dominance throughout the competition.

12 Hindi Day

 On  14 September 1949, the Constituent Assembly  gave   Hindi  the status of the official language of India . On this day, the Constituent Assembly of India took the historic decision to adopt the Devanagari script as one of the official languages. Its purpose was an effort to recognize the linguistic diversity and unity of the country as well as India. Hindi Day was first celebrated on 14 September 1953.  The purpose of celebrating this day was to promote the importance of Hindi language and its propagation around the world. In India, Hindi language is considered a connecting language and it also strengthens national unity.
