1.Kerala to launch mobile app for waste disposal

The Government of Kerala is all set to launch a mobile application to improve and track the collection of inorganic waste in local self-governing bodies . In the initial phase all 6 municipal corporations, 300 village bodies and 70 municipalitiesSmart Garbage mobile app will be launched in The launch of the mobile app will make waste disposal more efficient. This app will be deployed to manage and receive the amount of inorganic waste collected from home. The app will also explain and explain how the waste is treated. Each house will be given a QR code, Which will be used to get the details of the waste generated. This app will enable all local bodies and departments to track garbage collection. The waste collection will be tracked by volunteers of the state poverty alleviation and women empowerment program called Kudumbashree Mission. These volunteers are known as Haritha Karma Sena. Smartphones will be provided to the Army as part of the project to track waste collection. The smartphones will be backed by the Kerala State Electronics Development Corporation.

3.SIDBI and Google partner to support MSMEs

Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) has joined hands with Google India to support Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) . This partnership is a social impact loan program ( Social Impact Lending Programme) which will provide financial assistance of up to Rs 1 crore to MSMEs at competitive interest rates. It will bring a fund of $15 million to MSMEs as a crisis response related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Under this agreement, a loan program targeted at micro enterprises (with a turnover of up to Rs 5 crore) is being implemented by SIDBI. The size of the loan ranges between Rs 25 lakh to Rs 1 crore. The collaboration between SIDBI and Google India will enhance the MSME sector’s efforts to expand access to credit. It also marks the beginning of a paperless journey of SIDBI from on-boarding to delivery stage for its customers. The program will mainly focus on enterprises run by women entrepreneurs. Suitable interest rate concession will also be provided to such enterprises.

5.Japan’s prime minister unveils $490 billion stimulus package

6.Delhi pledges to clean Yamuna by 2025

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal recently pledged to completely clean Yamuna river by 2025 . He announced a six-point action plan for cleaning the holy river . He also promised to make Yamuna river drinkable and bathable by 2025. The Chief Minister announced the implementation of the following six-point action plan:

  1. Sewer Treatment – ​​The government will build new sewage treatment plants.
  2. The capacity of the existing sewer treatment plant will be increased. The move will increase the sewage treatment capacity from 600 million gallons per day of wastewater to 750 MGD-800 MGD. In-situ treatment of waste water from four major drains, Najafgarh, Badshahpur, Supplementary and Ghazipur, which fall into Yamuna.
  3. The old treatment plant will be upgraded and its technology will be changed.
  4. Industries releasing industrial waste into Yamuna will be closed.
  5. Waste water in “slum clusters” currently flows through storm water and drains into the Yamuna. These drains will now be connected to the sewer network.
  6. In areas where people have not taken sewer connection, sewer connections will be installed at nominal charges. In areas with sewer network, the government will provide domestic connections. Earlier people had to take such a connection themselves.

7.Indian Railways opens first pod retiring room in Mumbai

12.Clean Ocean Manifesto

14.ASER 2021 report
