1 India and South Korea announced 25 key outcomes after high-level talks in New Delhi

During Lee Jae-myung  ‘s visit to India, the two countries elevated their bilateral relations to a forward-looking partnership and  announced  a total of 25 key outcomes  . Following high-level talks with  Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi   at  Hyderabad House , the two nations outlined an ambitious roadmap to further deepen cooperation in various areas such as technology, trade, defense, and culture  . This step reflects the two countries’ shared vision for long-term cooperation in today’s complex global landscape. A variety of Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were signed to promote cooperation in a wide range of areas. Key areas of cooperation include:

Apart from this, a key attraction is the ‘ India-Korea Digital Bridge ‘, which  focuses on emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI), semiconductors and IT  .

2 Army Chief Upendra Dwivedi’s air tour

Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi  held  a meeting with  the Commanding General of the United States Army Pacific, General Ronald P. Clarke,  and senior officials in Honolulu  . The meeting discussed strengthening defense cooperation between the two countries and advancing a shared vision for peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region. When General Dwivedi   arrived at  the US military base  in  Hawaii , he was given  a ‘Guard of Honor ‘  at  Fort Shafter and also took an aerial tour of the island of Oahu .

3 Defence Ministry signs contracts worth Rs 975 crore for procurement of trawl systems for T-72 and T-90 tanks

The Ministry of Defence  has  signed  contracts for the procurement of trawl assemblies  for  T-72 and T-90 tanks  at a cost of approximately Rs 975 crore. The contracts were signed with Bharat Earth Movers Limited  and  Electro Pneumatics & Hydraulics (India) Private Limited  in the presence of   Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh in New Delhi   . The Ministry of Defence has said that the trawl assemblies for T-72 and T-90 tanks are a critical equipment that will enhance the Indian Army’s mine-defeating capability.

4 INS Sunayna arrives in Jakarta as part of the  IOS Sagar Initiative

The Indian Navy  ‘s  offshore patrol vessel, INS Sunayna, arrived in Jakarta  on April 21, 2026.   This deployment  is under  the IOS Sagar initiative  , which reflects India’s active role in the Indian Ocean region. This is  the third leg of the Indian Ocean Ship  ‘s deployment in the Indian Ocean region under the IOS Sagar initiative  . The ship  is carrying a multinational crew from 16 friendly countries  , symbolizing regional cooperation and coordination. Before arriving in Jakarta, the ship transited important sea lanes such as the Strait of Malacca and the Singapore Strait, demonstrating a high level of navigational capability and interoperability. A Passage Exercise (PASSEX) will also be conducted between the Indian and Indonesian Navies upon the ship’s departure, further strengthening maritime coordination between the two countries.

People from both tribal and non-tribal communities are participating in the festival, spreading the message of harmony, amity, and well-being.  A bamboo pole symbolizing  Lord Garia , the  god of livestock and wealth  , is worshipped with flowers and garlands. The main state-level event,  initiated by   the Jamatia Hoda, is being held at Garjantoli in Teliamura  . Members of various tribal communities are performing rituals with devotion and praying for prosperity, good health, and overall well-being.

India’s economy is projected to grow by 6.4 percent this year and 6.6 percent in 2027,  according to a  United Nations report  . The UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific said in a report released yesterday that the economies of South and South-West Asia grew by 5.4 percent in 2025, compared to 5.2 percent in 2024. This was made possible by strong growth in India. India’s growth rate increased to 7.4 percent in 2025.

7  Apple makes a major change, with John Ternus becoming the new CEO.

American tech company Apple  has made a major leadership change and   appointed  John Ternus  as its next  CEO . He  will take over this responsibility from  September 1, 2026. Current CEO Tim Cook,  who has been leading the company since 2011, will now move to the new role of  Executive Chairman  . In this position, he will contribute to the global policies and strategic matters of the company. The company’s board has unanimously approved this decision. Also, Arthur Levinson will now play the role of Lead Independent Director. John Ternus (50) joined Apple in 2001 and became Senior Vice President in 2021. He has played a key role in the hardware development of major products like iPhone, iPad, Mac and AirPods.

8 First anniversary of Pahalgam terror attack

April 22nd marks the first anniversary of the terrorist attack in Pahalgam,  Jammu  and Kashmir  . On this day last year, terrorists  killed 26 innocent people, mostly tourists  , in Pahalgam  . This heinous act shocked the entire nation and was strongly condemned by governments and leaders worldwide. The Indian Army shared a message in a social media post warning terrorists that when the limits of humanity are crossed, the response is decisive. In response to the Pahalgam terrorist attack, the Indian Armed Forces  launched “Operation Sindoor” on the night of May 6th and 7th  last year. ” Operation Mahadev ” was also launched to eliminate the terrorists involved in the Pahalgam attack . This operation was one of the largest counter-terrorism operations in recent years. After a sustained search and pressure, three terrorists were killed in a swift and precise operation. With this action, the perpetrators of the attack were brought to justice on July 28th.

9 Carlos Alcaraz and Aryna Sabalenka named Best Player of the Year at the  Laureus World Sports Awards

The Laureus World Sports Awards  were announced on  April 20.   Tennis players Carlos Alcaraz  and  Aryna Sabalenka  received  the Player of the Year  award. Paris Saint-Germain  was also  named Team of the Year . Alcaraz won the French and US Opens last year and the Australian Open in January.  Rory McIlroy  ,  who won the Masters title this month, received the Player of the Year award  . At the age of 18, Lamin Yamal, who played for Barcelona and Spain, won the Youngest Player of the Year award.  Formula One champion Lando Norris  won  the World Breakthrough of the Year  award. Former German national football player  Toni Kroos  won  the World Sports Inspiration Award  . The Laureus World Sports Awards were held in Madrid, the capital of Spain. The awards were hosted by tennis player Novak Djokovic and freestyle skier Eileen Gu. The Laureus World Sports Awards are considered the Oscars of sports. They were established in 1999 by the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation. Its first patron was Nelson Mandela.

10 Aranyak Ghosh became India’s 95th Grandmaster

On April 21,   National Rapid Champion Aranyak  achieved his  third and final Grandmaster norm by scoring 7 out of 9 points  in   the Bangkok Chess Club Open  . Aranyak  achieved his first norm in the Sants Open in 2023  and  the second in the Annemase Masters in 2024.  In 2025, Aranyak defeated Mateusz Bartel of Poland in the FIDE World Cup.  Aranyak is ranked 401st in the world rankings  . Aranyak first played chess at the age of four and a half with his father Mrinal Ghosh’s old chess set. Understanding Aranyak’s interest, his father Mrinal Ghosh got him trained. In 2013, Aranyak won the silver medal in the Asian Youth Chess Championship under-10 category in Iran.

Earth Day  is celebrated every year   on  April 22 , marking the anniversary of the birth of the modern environmental movement in 1970. A special event will be held at the National Science Centre on April 22 to mark World Earth Day 2026. This year’s theme is ” Our Power, Our Planet ,” which underlines the collective responsibility for environmental protection.

13 Creativity and Innovation Day being celebrated globally

World Creativity and Innovation Day is celebrated  every year  on April 21st  . The United Nations designated this day to raise awareness of the role of creativity and innovation in all aspects of human development. The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) adopted this decision following a conference in 2005 to strengthen creative industries and promote artistic freedom. This year’s theme is Harnessing Creativity for Global Progress. This theme encourages the use of new ideas to drive sustainable development and address real-world challenges.
