  • Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways and AYUSH , inaugurated the commissioning of five ships simultaneously at Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) . The Union minister was in Kochi on a three-day visit, his first visit to the PSU after taking charge of the ministry. The ships were launched by five senior most women employees of CSL. The Union Minister inaugurated the launching ceremony of three Floating Border Out-Posts (FBOPs) for the Border Security Force and two fully electric autonomous ships for the ASKO Maritime AS Norway , which is among the world’s first autonomous boats.

  • Haryana is celebrating its 56th Foundation Day . Haryana came into existence on 1 November 1966 . In a cultural program organized in Panchkula on the eve of Haryana Day , Chief Minister Manohar Lal said that one hundred more villages have been connected under the Mhara Gaon, Jagmag Gaon Yojana for 24-hour power supply . Now 5 thousand 485 villages of the state are getting 24 hours electricity. The Chief Minister said that the remaining one thousand villages would soon be linked to this scheme.

  1. Nobel Peace Prize ceremony will be held in Oslo on 10 December this year
  • The Nobel Committee in Norway has decided that a ceremony to present this year’s Peace Prize will be held in Oslo on 10 December . This decision is in line with the Nobel Foundation’s move to not hold the ceremony. The foundation had said that for the second year in a row, a banquet will be organized for the award winners at the stock home. All other Nobel Prizes are given in Stock Home while the Nobel Peace Prize is given in Oslo. This year’s Nobel Prize for Peace, Philippine-American journalist Maria Resa and Russian journalist Dmitry Muratov will be given to The Nobel Committee’s statement expressed hope that both the winners would attend the ceremony. Last year the ceremony was not held in Oslo due to the pandemic.

  • Recently the Union Minister of Earth Sciences visited the Pioneer Ocean Research Vessel (ORV) ship- Sagar Nidhi of the Indian subcontinent . Earlier the ‘Ministry of Earth Sciences’ (MoES) had launched India’s first manned ocean mission ‘ Samudrayaan ‘ in Chennai . ‘Sagar Nidhi’ was commissioned in the year 2008 for the country’s marine research program . This is the third research vessel after ‘ Sagar Purvi ‘ and ‘ Sagar Paschim ‘. The ship is a geological, meteorological and oceanographicIt is capable of conducting related research and is designed for a range of up to 10,000 nautical miles (19,000 km) for up to 45 days. It is the first Indian-flagged research ship, capable of withstanding even the harshest natural conditions and sailing up to 66°S latitude [Antarctic waters], withstanding 11 storms. The Ministry of Earth Sciences currently has 6 ships – Sagar Nidhi, Sagar Manjusha, Sagarkanya, Sagar Sampada, Sagar Tara and Sagar Anveshika, which are used for many ocean studies and applications including ocean observation.

  • The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a USD 250 million (approximately Rs 1,875 crore) loan to support India’s National Industrial Corridor Development Program ( NICDP ) . This is the first subprogram of a programmatic USD 500 million loan to develop 11 industrial corridors spread across 17 states. NICDP aims to develop world-class industrial nodes that are supported by efficient urban clusters and multimodal connectivity, including international gateways such as ports and airports, and inclusive, climate-resilient and sustainable infrastructure.
  1. Government approves 8.5% interest rate on EPF for FY 2021
  • The Finance Ministry has approved the interest rate on Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) deposits at 5% for 2020-21 . The rates fixed for the year 2019-20 have been kept unchanged. EPF is a fixed income instrument that is completely tax-free under the exempt-exempt-exempt (EEE) regime along with PPF and Sukanya Samriddhi Account. Now the Ministry of Labor will notify the interest rate to implement it.
