1 India beat Afghanistan to reach the final of the Under-19 Cricket World Cup

 In  Harare , India  has   reached  the final of  the Under-19 One Day Cricket World Cup  . In the second semi-final, India achieved Afghanistan  ‘s target of 311 runs in just 42 overs. Aaron George scored 115, Vaibhav Suryavanshi 68, Ayush 62, and Vihaan Malhotra scored an unbeaten 38. India   will now face England in the final on Friday .

2 President Murmu ended President’s rule in Manipur

President Draupadi Murmu  has  ended President’s Rule   in  Manipur . President’s Rule  was imposed in the state on February 13 last year  . A gazette notification was issued by the Home Ministry in this regard. The notification issued by Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan said, ”  In exercise of the powers conferred by  clause (2)  of  Article 356  of  the Constitution of India, I, Draupadi MurmuPresident of India , hereby revoke the Proclamation dated February 13, 2025, issued under the said article in relation to the State of Manipur, with effect from February 4, 2026.” President’s Rule was imposed in the state on February 13 last year following the resignation of then Chief Minister  N. Biren Singh,  suspending the Manipur Legislative Assembly, which had a term till March 2027.

3 Khemchand Singh becomes Chief Minister of Manipur, two Deputy CMs take oath

Former Assembly Speaker  and  Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh  was sworn in as  the new Chief Minister  of  Manipur  on Wednesday  . Nemcha Kipgen  and  Losi Dikho  were sworn in as Deputy Chief Ministers along with him. The swearing-in ceremony   was held a day after the BJP declared  61-year-old Meitei community leader Yumnam Khemchand Singh as the new Assembly party leader in New Delhi. Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla  administered the oath of office and secrecy to the new Chief Minister, two Deputy Chief Ministers and two other Ministers at a ceremony held at Lok Bhawan. Former Minister Nemcha Kipgen was sworn in as Deputy Chief Minister through online mode from Manipur Bhawan in New Delhi. Naga People’s Front MLA L. Dikho was also sworn in as Deputy Chief Minister.

4 Yantra India Limited included in Miniratna Category-1

 On February 2 ,  Defence Minister Rajnath Singh  approved  the Miniratna Category-I  status   for  Defence PSU (Public Sector Undertaking) Yantra India Limited (YIL) . Yantra India Limited  was incorporated on  October 1, 2021 and is a Schedule ‘A’ DPSU under  the Department of Defence   . Yantra India Limited manufactures carbon fibre composites, assembly for medium and large-calibre ammunition, armoured vehicles, artillery guns, main battle tanks, glass composites and aluminium. In May 2025 also, the Ministry of Defence had included 3 other DPSUs Munitions India Limited, Armoured Vehicles Nigam Limited and India Optel Limited in the Miniratna Category-I status.  There are 2 categories of Miniratna companyMiniratna Category-I Any PSU which has earned profit continuously for the last 3 years. Its profit should be Rs 30 crore in at least one of these years. A Miniratna company can invest up to Rs 500 crore or its net worth (whichever is less) without government approval. Miniratna Category-II Any company which has been earning profit continuously for the last three years. Can invest up to Rs 300 crore or 50% of its net worth (whichever is less) without government approval.

5 Climate scientist Veerabhadran Ramanathan receives Crafoord Prize

 On February 2 ,  Indian-born  climate  scientist Veerabhadran Ramanathan  was   awarded  the Crafoord Prize  by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences . The Crafoord Prize is also known as  the ” Nobel of Geosciences .” Ramanathan was awarded the prize for his research on atmospheric brown clouds  . This research demonstrated how  chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) , used in refrigeration,  are 10,000 times more harmful to the atmosphere than  carbon  dioxide . Ramanathan was born in Madurai and raised in Chennai. He holds degrees from Annamalai University and the Indian Institute of Science. Ramanathan began his career as an engineer at a refrigerator factory in Secunderabad, where he first handled CFCs. Ramanathan served as an advisor at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, the University of California, San Diego, and a professor. Ramanathan was awarded the Foundation Frontiers of Knowledge Award for his work on climate change by the Spanish National Research Council. The Crawford Award consists of a cash prize of 8 million Swedish kronor and a gold medal.

6 India-Kyrgyzstan joint military exercise ‘Khanzar’ begins in Missamari, Assam

The 13th edition  of   the joint military exercise  Khanjar  between India and Kyrgyzstan is commencing in Missamari , Sonitpur district  ,  Assam  . This military exercise will strengthen bilateral defense cooperation and consolidate the long-standing military partnership between the two countries. The 14-day military exercise aims to enhance mutual coordination and operational capabilities between the special forces of the two countries. During the exercise, special emphasis will be placed on urban warfare and counter-terrorism operations under the United Nations mandate. This Khanjar exercise will further strengthen bilateral defense cooperation and deepen the enduring military partnership between India and Kyrgyzstan. India and Kyrgyzstan have been conducting joint military exercises annually since 2011. The 12th edition, held in Kyrgyzstan in March 2025, included intensive exercises in sniping, complex building construction, mountain maneuvering, and specialized counter-terrorism exercises, as well as high-altitude operations and cultural exchanges.

7 Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva to visit India

Brazilian  President  Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva  will visit India this month. His visit is expected to further strengthen bilateral relations amid a rapidly changing global order. Brazilian Ambassador to India Kenneth H. da Nobrega stated this in an interview with a news agency. He described the growing coordination between the two countries in the areas of trade, technology, and geopolitics as important. The Ambassador noted that President Lula da Silva’s visit comes less than a year after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Brazil. He noted that the two countries have maintained diplomatic relations for over 70 years, and this holds special significance in today’s global environment.

8 India joins 8 BRICS Industrial Excellence Centres

India  has joined  the BRICS Industrial Efficiency Centre (BCIC)  to provide  integrated support services to manufacturing companies and micro, small and medium enterprises  in   BRICS countries . This was announced at an event organised by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade  in  New Delhi  . The Ministry of Commerce and Industry said that  the National Productivity  Council  (NPC) has been designated as the BRICS Industrial Efficiency Centre  . The Ministry said that the NPC will lead the country’s engagement with the BCIC and contribute to capacity building, productivity enhancement and adoption of advanced manufacturing practices.  Launched in partnership with the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation, the BCIC aims to promote industrial innovation, modernisation and international cooperation among the BRICS economies and beyond.

9 Sacred Devnimori relic of Lord Buddha taken to Colombo, Sri Lanka

The sacred Devnimori relics  of  Lord  Buddha were transported to Colombo, Sri Lanka, on a special  Indian Air Force  aircraft  . This  is the first international display of these relics  . A high-level Indian delegation, led by  Gujarat  Governor  Acharya Devvrat  and  Deputy Chief Minister Harsha Sangham V, accompanied them to Colombo. Sri Lanka’s Minister of Buddhasasana Sunil Seenavy and Minister of Public Administration Prof. A.H.M.H. Abeyrathna formally welcomed them. The relics  were transported to  the Gangaramaya Temple . The arrival coincides with  Sri Lanka’s National Day  . The relics  will be kept at the Gangaramaya Temple in Colombo from February 4th to 11th  , and public worship will begin on February 5th. The relics will be returned on February 11th, 2026, as announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Sri Lanka in April 2025.

10 INS Sudarshini arrives at Salalah Port, Oman on the first leg of its voyage

The Indian Navy  ‘s  training ship INS Sudarshini has arrived at Salalah Port in Oman  on  the first leg  of its voyage   . The Ministry of Defence stated that the deployment aims to showcase the country’s rich maritime heritage and promote international maritime cooperation. During the three-day visit, the ministry said, talks and training programmes will be conducted with the Royal Navy of Oman. The ship will also be open to school children and local residents. This   is the first international stop of INS Sudarshini’s prestigious voyage, Lokayan 26 .

11 Child Marriage Free India: Third phase of awareness programmes begins

The Central Government  launched a national campaign called  Child Marriage Free India ” on  November 27, 2024,  with the primary objective of making the country completely free from child marriage  . This initiative aims to achieve the vision of a  “developed India ” by adopting  a ” whole-of-government ” and ” whole-of-society ” approach. Encouraging education, skill development, entrepreneurship, and self-reliance  for  girls and women  is considered crucial. The main objectives of this campaign are to spread widespread awareness about preventing child marriage, ensure active participation of parents, families, and communities, strengthen the capacity and role of Child Marriage Prohibition Officers (CMPOs), promote timely reporting of child marriage cases, and identify adolescent girls who have dropped out of school or are at risk of child marriage. This initiative focuses on ensuring their education, skill development, and empowerment. The campaign is implemented under a systematic and phased implementation plan.  The first phase (November 27, 2025, to December 31, 2025)  will involve organizing awareness-raising activities in schools, colleges, and universities through debates, essay competitions, and oath-taking ceremonies.  The second phase (January 1, 2026, to January 31, 2026)  primarily aims to collaborate with religious institutions and wedding-related service providers, such as temples, mosques, catering services, tent houses, and DJs, to spread awareness and display informational and educational materials to prevent child marriage.  The third phase (February 1, 2026, to March 8, 2026) will focus  on  organizing village panchayats and municipal wards to pass resolutions declaring areas child marriage-free.

12 Esha Singh and the Indian women’s team won the gold medal in the 10m air pistol event.

Esha Singh  has  won  the gold medal   in  the 10m air pistol event at  the Asian Shooting Championships  .  She  defeated Cheng Yen-ching  and  Yu Ai-wen in the final in New Delhi  . Esha came back from a deficit in the final to score 249.8 points and win her second senior Asian Championship gold medal. Cheng Yen-ching won the silver with 235.4 points and Yu Ai-wen won the bronze with 217.7 points.  EshaManu Bhaker  and  Suruchi Singh also  won  the gold medal in the women’s team event  . Vietnam won the silver and Chinese Taipei won the bronze medal.  In the men’s category, Samrat Rana  won   the bronze medal  in  the 10m air pistol event .

13 World Cancer Day

World Cancer Day  is observed  every year  on February 4. It aims to raise awareness about cancer  and highlight advances in its treatment. According to estimates from the ICMR’s National Cancer Registry, over 1.53 million new cancer cases will be reported in India in 2024, while 800,000 to 870,000 deaths will occur due to cancer. Globally, 20 million new cases and 9.7 million deaths will be reported in 2022.
