1 India-China trade resumes through Shipki-La Pass in Kinnaur, to resume from June 1

Border trade between India  and  China  is set to resume from June 1st via  the Shipki-La route  in  Himachal Pradesh ‘s  Kinnaur  district . The Kinnaur district administration has accelerated preparations for the smooth conduct of trade. Warehouses and shops will be built for traders in the Chupan area of ​​Namgya Panchayat in the Pooh subdivision. Forty types of products will be exchanged under this trade arrangement. These include local products such as flour, rice, jaggery, oil, turmeric, spices, salt, carpets, utensils, and dried fruits.

 Dr. Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology, Earth Sciences, and Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space,  stated that   India’s largest pregnancy cohort study of 12,000 women under the GARBH-INi initiative aims to develop indigenous, AI-based solutions to address the problem of preterm   births   . Premature birth is one of the leading causes of neonatal mortality and adult morbidity. Dr. Jitendra Singh was addressing an event titled “Dissemination of Findings and Results of GARBH-INi (Interdisciplinary Group for Advanced Research on Birth Outcomes)” at the India Habitat Centre in New Delhi. The initiative has also established a national bio-repository and the GARBH-INi-DRISHTI data-sharing platform, enabling wider access for the research community and contributing to global scientific publications. On this occasion, key partnerships and technology transfer programs were formalized; these included the transfer of microbiome-based biotherapeutics technology to Sundayota Numandis Probioceuticals Pvt. Ltd., and the signing of Letters of Intent with DOTO Health Pvt. Ltd. and Qure.ai Technologies Pvt. Ltd. for AI-enabled ultrasound reporting systems and risk stratification platforms under the GARBH-INi-AnandiMaa initiative. The Minister also honored participating families for their contributions to scientific research.

3 new railway initiatives: Food packets identifiable through QR codes, crackdown on unauthorised vending

 

Keeping in mind the convenience and safety of rail passengers,  Indian Railways  has taken a major step.  QR code-based ID cards  have now been made mandatory   for  catering staff  and  vendors  on  trains. This initiative aims to curb unauthorized vending  and provide safe and reliable service to passengers. Most railway passengers face significant food issues. A long-standing complaint is that they are served stale or tasteless food. To address this problem, IRCTC has introduced QR codes, which will be affixed to food packets. Scanning these QR codes will reveal important details, including the time of preparation and packaging date. This feature will help curb illegal vendors and ensure passenger safety.

4 Odisha: First National Indoor Athletics Championship to begin at Kalinga Stadium

The first National Indoor Athletics Championships  will begin  at  the Kalinga Stadium  in  Bhubaneswar , marking the beginning of a new chapter in track and field competitions in the country. 278 athletes, including 97 women, are participating in the two-day competition. According to the organizers, the championships have been developed with the aim of strengthening the indoor athletics calendar in India and providing athletes with competition opportunities early in the season.

5 World Meteorological Day

World Meteorological Day  is celebrated  every year on  March 23rd  . This year’s theme  is ”  Observing Today, Protecting Tomorrow .” The day   commemorates the founding of  the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) . The WMO was established in 1950.  Celeste Saulo, Secretary-General of the WMO, said that millions of observations go behind every forecast.

World Bear Day  is a global event  celebrated annually on  March 23  to advocate for the conservation of all eight bear species  and their importance to Earth’s biodiversity. It aims to awaken the “vulnerability” of bears and emphasize the urgent need to protect their shrinking habitats. On World Bear Day 2026, the global conservation community honors one of nature’s most resilient yet also most vulnerable apex predators. This year’s theme, ” Protecting Habitats, Preserving Vulnerability ,” reflects a shift toward recognizing the emotional and cognitive complexity of bears.

7 Martyrdom Day of  great freedom fighters Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev

 

 Martyrs’ Day is celebrated  in India  on March 23rd to commemorate the sacrifice of  Bhagat Singh, Shivaram Rajguru, and Sukhdev Thapar  , who were hanged by the British on this day in 1931.  This day is not just a remembrance of history, but a symbol of courage, the power of youth, and the spirit of independence. They were hanged on this day in 1931 in Lahore Central Jail. These three revolutionaries   were accused of shooting dead British police officer Saunders on December 17, 1928 .
