1 India gets Make in India booster, Ezomicro develops next generation semiconductor technology

EzmoMicro  , a special division of  automotive retailing solution provider Ezmo,  developed  a high-density silicon photonics packaging platform  , after which the company’s shares hit an upper circuit of 20 per cent on Friday. With this achievement of the company, the country has entered  the next-generation semiconductor technologies  . The Bengaluru-based company announced that this innovation will be critical to advancing AI, cloud computing and future telecom networks. This advancement supports scalability and efficiency for hyperscale data centers, AI clusters and next generation 5G and 6G networks. The company has developed a high-density silicon photonics packaging platform that supports 32-channel fiber input and output, achieving industry-leading insertion loss of less than 2 dB. The company has achieved this density by overcoming a significant challenge of reaching nanometer-level optical alignment, using advanced assembly processes and seamlessly integrating electronics. Silicon photonics is replacing copper interconnects for high-speed data transmission and is becoming the dominant technology for multi-terabit optical communications.

2 India was elected Chairman of the AIBD Executive Board during the 23rd General Assembly held in Thailand

In a remarkable achievement,  India  has been elected as the Chair of the Executive Board of the Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD). The election took place during the 23rd General Assembly of AIBD held in Phuket, Thailand from 19–21 August 2025  and  India received  the   highest number of votes. This is a significant achievement for India, as India   last held  the position of AIBD Executive Council Chair in 2016. With this new achievement, India’s leadership role in AIBD has been further strengthened. While its current term as President of the AIBD General Assembly will continue till August 2025. AIBD  was established in the year 1977 under the aegis of UNESCO  . It is a unique regional inter-governmental organization. It currently has more than 92 member organizations from 45 countries, including 26 government members, represented by 48 national broadcasters. 44 Affiliate Members from 28 countries and territories spanning Asia-Pacific, Europe, Africa, the Arab States and North America. India is a founding member of AIBD and is represented by Prasar Bharati, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India.

3 Government issues notification granting privileges to International Big Cat Alliance under UN Privileges and Immunities Act

 

The government has   issued a notification providing   privileges and immunity to the International Big Cat Alliance, its representatives and officials   under  the United Nations Privileges and Immunities Act, 1947. Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Bhupendra Yadav  has given information in this regard in a social media post. He has said that this important step  reflects India’s firm commitment to enhance international cooperation for the conservation of big cats i.e. tiger, lion, leopard, jaguar, puma and cheetah  . According to Bhupendra Yadav,  on   April 17, 2025 , the  Government  of India signed the Host Country Agreement with IBCA  , under which this organization was established in India. Under this agreement, there is a provision to grant privileges and immunities to IBCA and its representatives.

4 US President Donald Trump appointed Sergio Gor as the new US Ambassador to India

 

US President Donald Trump has announced the appointment of  his close aide  Sergio Gor  as  US Ambassador to India and Special Envoy for South and Central Asia.  Announcing the appointment through a post on Truth Social, President Trump said that for the world’s most densely populated region, he needed a person who could work in accordance with his plan and help make America great again. Gore will replace Eric Garcetti, who served as ambassador from May 11, 2023 to January 20 this year.

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of several development projects worth over Rs 5,200 crore in Kolkata, West Bengal. In line with his commitment to world-class infrastructure and enhanced urban connectivity, the Prime Minister inaugurated the Metro Railway projects in Kolkata. 13.61 km long newly built metro network will be inaugurated and metro services will be launched on these routes. He visited Jessore Road Metro Station where he will flag off the Jessore Road to Noapara-Jai Hind Bimanbandar Metro service.

 

6 The first test flight of India’s first unmanned space mission- Gaganyaan, with a semi-human robot- Vyommitra is expected to take place in December 2025

 

The first test flight of  India’s first unmanned space mission – Gaganyaan  ,  with  a semi-humanoid robot – Vyommitra ,  is expected to take place in December this year .  Indian Space Research Organisation-ISRO  Chairman  V.  Narayanan said in New Delhi that so far 80% of Gaganyaan’s tests, or about 7,700, have been completed. The remaining 2,300 tests will be completed by March next year.

7 Government approves 23 chip design projects to boost semiconductor design capabilities

The government has   approved 23 chip design projects under  an incentive scheme to promote semiconductor design capabilities in the country  . These projects   will develop indigenous chips and systems on chips for  surveillance cameras, energy meters, microprocessor IP and networking applications . The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has said that electronic design automation tools  have been made available to 72 companies  for chip design projects  . One of these semiconductor companies, Vervesemi Microelectronics, has announced its advanced integrated circuit portfolio. It is designed to enhance India’s self-reliance in the field of semiconductors and drive global innovation.

8 Indian Armed Forces to begin massive exercise at Dolumbukh Firing Range

The Indian armed forces will begin a massive exercise at  the Doluangmukh firing range  located in   the Dulung Reserve Forest  in Assam  ‘s  Lakhimpur district , near  the Arunachal Pradesh  border  . Starting from September 1 to December 31, the training operation includes bomb blasts, rocket launches and aerial power demonstrations.

 

9 Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal distributed the prizes of the 57th Youth Parliament Competition 2024-25

 

Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Arjun Ram Meghwal  distributed the prizes of   the 57th Youth Parliament Competition 2024-25  for schools under  the Delhi Government  and  New Delhi Municipal Corporation  . Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya No. 1 Yamuna  Vihar C Block,   which got  the first place in this competition, was awarded the Parliamentary Shield and Trophy  . On this occasion, Mr. Meghwal said that some posts are beyond gender equality and keeping this in mind, a progressive change has been adopted in the Parliament. He said that whether the post of Speaker is held by a woman or a man, everyone addresses him as Chairman Sir.

10 Former Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe arrested

Former Sri Lankan  President  Ranil Wickremesinghe was arrested  after appearing before the Criminal Investigation Department in Colombo  .  The arrest has been made on charges of  misusing government funds  for a private trip to London in 2023.  Police allege that the 76-year-old leader used government funds to meet his expenses when he went to Wolverhampton University in Britain to attend the PhD graduation ceremony of his wife Professor Maitree Wickremesinghe. Investigators say that this trip was combined with an official visit to Cuba and the US. But this trip had no official purpose. An amount of about 50 thousand dollars was spent on airfare, living expenses there and other items during his stay in London.  Mr. Wickremesinghe was the President of Sri Lanka from 2022 to 2024 .

11 Salima Tete became the captain of the Indian women’s hockey team

Veteran midfielder Salima Tete  has  been appointed  captain of the 20-member Indian women’s hockey team  for the Asia Cup to be held from September 5 to 14   in  Hangzhou, China . The winner of the tournament will get a direct entry into the 2026 International Hockey Federation-FIH Women’s Hockey World Cup. The team will begin its campaign against Thailand on September 5, followed by Japan on September 6.

12 World Wrestling Championships

 In  Samokov , Bulgaria , India’s Kajal Dochak  won the gold medal while  Shruti   and Sarika  won  bronze medals at  the Under-20 World Wrestling Championships   . The reigning Under-20 Asian champion, 17-year-old Kajal  defeated  China’s  Yuqi Liu 8-6 in the final of the 72kg weight categorySarika  won the bronze medal by defeating Poland’s Ilona Walczuk in the women’s  53kg category  . While Shruti  defeated Germany’s Josephine Rench 6-0   in the 50kg category .  In  the men’s Greco-Roman 60kg category , Suraj  defeated France’s Lucas Go Grasso  to win the bronze medal  . Indian woman wrestler  Tapasya  has won  the gold medal in the 57kg weight category  at the Under-20 World Wrestling Championships 2025. Tapasya  defeated Norway’s Felicitas Domazeva 5-2 in the final . In the women’s  68kg weight category, Srishti  lost to Japan’s Rei Hoshino in the final. In the women’s  55 kg category, Reena  had to settle for a silver medal after losing 2-10 to Everest Ledecker of the USA in the final. Meanwhile,  Priya Malik also lost to Nadia Sokolovska of Ukraine in the 76 kg category final  and also got a silver medal. Indian wrestlers have  so far  won nine medals in the competition, including  two gold, four silver  and  three bronze  medals.
