2 IPS Rajesh Nirwan appointed Director General of BCAS
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Rajesh Nirvana as Director General (DG) of the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) under the Ministry of Civil Aviation . According to the order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), his appointment will be effective from the date he assumes charge and will continue until further orders.

7 Former Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar honoured with Col CK Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award
Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar has been awarded the Col. C.K. Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award . He was honoured by the Board of Control for Cricket in India at the Naman Awards 2025 in Mumbai. Mr Tendulkar was presented the award by International Cricket Council (ICC) President Jay Shah for his unparalleled contribution to Indian cricket over two decades. Other award winners include Indian bowler Jasprit Bumrah . Bumrah received the prestigious Polly Umrigar Award for Best International Men’s Cricketer for his outstanding performance in the year 2024. Indian women’s team vice-captain Smriti Mandhana won the fourth Best International Women’s Cricketer award. The Mumbai Cricket Association received the award for the best performance in the Board’s domestic tournament for 2023-24. The Board also honoured R. Ashwin . Ashwin had announced his retirement from international cricket after the third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
8 Indian Grandmaster R. Praggnanandhaa defeated defending world champion D. Gukesh to win the Tata Steel Masters 2025 title
Indian chess Grandmaster R. Praggnanandhaa won the prestigious Tata Steel Masters 2025 title by defeating reigning world champion D. Gukesh in a thrilling tiebreaker at Wijk aan Zee in the Netherlands . With this win, R. Praggnanandhaa has become the first Indian to win this prestigious title since Viswanathan Anand in 2006. The 14-player round-robin event was dramatic. Both Gukesh and Praggnanandhaa were tied with 8.5 points after 13 rounds. Gukesh, who remained unbeaten throughout the tournament, lost his final game to Grandmaster Arjun Erigaisi while Praggnanandhaa was defeated by Vincent Keymer in a long match. In the tiebreaker, Gukesh won the first of the two blitz games and needed only a draw in the second to secure the title. However, Praggnanandhaa made a brilliant comeback and won both the blitz games to clinch the title.

10 Khelo India Winter Games 2025: Ladakh comes out on top
The first phase of Khelo India Winter Games (KIWG) 2025 concluded in Leh, Ladakh , where Ladakh performed brilliantly and topped the medal table . The competition featured exciting sports like ice hockey and skating , in which players from Ladakh, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra performed remarkably. Ladakh topped the medal table by winning a total of 7 medals (including 4 gold). The players of the state performed excellently in mixed relay and women’s ice hockey. Indian Army retained the ice hockey title by defeating ITBP 2-1. Tamil Nadu established itself as an emerging talent hub in skating. The state won three gold medals, with Yashashree’s victory in women’s 500m long track being the most notable. Maharashtra earned the most medals by winning a total of 10 medals, but finished third in the medal table due to winning only 2 gold medals.
