1 India prepares to launch INS Aridaman

India is set to commission its  third indigenously developed nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine, INS Aridhaman  . This submarine is a major step towards strengthening India’s sea-based nuclear deterrence capability. INS Aridhaman succeeds INS Arighat, which was commissioned in August 2025. With the induction of Aridhaman, for the first time, India will have three nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarines operating simultaneously. This makes India’s second-strike nuclear capability more credible, a key part of the national security strategy. INS Aridhaman  is designed to carry longer-range nuclear missiles than  INS Arihant and INS Arighat .

The Rann Utsav continues in full splendor  in  Kutch  ,  Gujarat  . The Rann Utsav celebrates the rich culture, traditions, and hospitality of Kutch, attracting tourists from across the globe. This year’s much-awaited Rann Utsav will  begin on October 23, 2025, and continue until March 4, 2026.  The festival will no longer be limited to the white desert of the Rann, but will showcase the history and culture of Kutch in one unified whole. This time, with the theme ” See the whole Kutch, not the incomplete one, ” tourists   will also get a chance to visit Dholavira ,  a UNESCO World Heritage Site  of  the Indus Valley Civilization .

3 Indian Coast Guard Ship Vigraha arrives on a three-day visit to Indonesia

Indian Coast Guard Ship Vigraha  is on a three-day visit to Indonesia as part of its deployment to ASEAN countries   . During the visit, personnel from the Indian Coast Guard and  Indonesia’s Maritime Security Agency, BAKAMLA,  will participate in a number of activities, including dialogue, exercises, and joint military sessions. Following the visit to Indonesia, the Indian Coast Guard Ship Vigraha will proceed to Malaysia.

4 Reserve Bank – Integrated Ombudsman Scheme (RB-IOS) 2024-25

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) released the annual report of  its  Integrated Ombudsman Scheme (RB-IOS)  ,  highlighting key reforms and trends in  India’s  grievance redressal system . The scheme provides  a free alternative grievance redressal (AGR)  facility to customers whose complaints have not been satisfactorily resolved by banks, NBFCs, payment system participants (PSPs), or credit information companies (CICs)  . The report stated that the highest number of consumer complaints were related to loans and advance payments, accounting for 29.25%. Credit card complaints saw a 20.04% increase, indicating growing digital consumption and card usage. The report also highlighted that the complaint process is increasingly becoming digital. 91.22% of complaints were filed online or via email, reflecting increased consumer convenience and awareness.

4 RBI appoints Usha Janakiraman as Executive Director

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI)  has  appointed Ms. Usha Janakiraman  as its  new Executive Director (ED)  with effect from  December 1, 2025.  This appointment is significant for candidates preparing for banking awareness, regulatory exams and interviews, as the change in senior leadership at RBI has implications for financial surveillance and policy direction. Ms. Usha Janakiraman has over three decades of experience in the RBI. Prior to becoming Executive Director, she served as Chief General Manager-in-Charge in the Department of Regulation at RBI’s Central Office in Mumbai.

6 SBI, ICICI Bank and HDFC Bank retain D-SIB status

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI)  on December 2, 2025, stated   that  State Bank of India (SBI)HDFC Bank,  and  ICICI Bank  have  retained their D-SIB  status. These banks have a profound impact on the country’s economy. If these banks ever face difficulties, the entire banking system in the country could be adversely affected. Therefore, the government and the RBI keep these banks under stricter regulations. These banks are considered ” Too Big to Fail ,” as they are crucial to the Indian financial system.

7 Vivek Chaturvedi appointed as CBIC chief

The Government of India  has appointed Vivek Chaturvedi  ,  a 1990 batch   Indian Revenue Service  (IRS – Customs and Indirect Taxes) officer , as the new Chairman of the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC)  . His appointment has been approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), according to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT).

8 Air Marshal Tejbir Singh takes over as Director General (Inspection and Safety)

Air Marshal Tejbir Singh  assumed  the charge of Director General (Inspection & Security) [DG (I&S)] at   Air Headquarters   on 01 December 2025.  This appointment marks another significant milestone in his distinguished service journey in the Indian Air Force (IAF). The Air Marshal has over 7000 flying hours, reflecting his extensive operational experience. He played a key role in the induction of the C-130J ‘Super Hercules’ aircraft into the IAF and the establishment of the first Special Operations Squadron for joint operations.

9 IUSSP honoured in Kolkata for winning the United Nations Population Award

The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) India  honored  the International Union for the Scientific Study of Population (IUSSP)  with  the 2025 United Nations Population Prize (Institutional Category)  . This award recognizes IUSSP’s contributions to outstanding research, capacity building, and evidence-based policymaking in global population science. The felicitation took place during the 46th Annual Conference of the Indian Association for Population Studies (IASP), which witnessed significant discussions on India’s demographic future. IUSSP, chaired (2022–2025) by Dr. Shirin Jejeebhoy, was honored for its significant contributions to population science internationally, research collaborations, and building a global network of demographers.

10 Karnataka introduces e-Swathu 2.0 for rural property digitisation

Karnataka  Chief  Minister Siddaramaiah  launched   the  advanced e-Swathu 2.0 digital platform , aimed at regularizing properties in rural areas  and strengthening the state’s revenue system. The system will bring 9.5 million properties belonging to gram panchayats under the tax net, potentially generating revenue of up to ₹2,000 crore for the government. The Chief Minister stated that the new platform could generate revenue of up to ₹1,778 crore, and with effective implementation, this amount could reach ₹2,000 crore. This will also bring buildings outside village boundaries under the property tax net.

11 World Computer Literacy Day

World Computer Literacy Day is celebrated every year   on  December 2nd  , with the aim of promoting digital education, technological awareness, and equitable access to computer skills. This day reminds us that in an increasingly digital world, bridging the digital divide is crucial for inclusive development. World Computer Literacy Day  was initiated in 2001 by NIIT Limited  , an Indian multinational organization specializing in education and skill development. The main objective of this initiative was to provide computer education to women and children and increase their access to technology.

12 International Day of Persons with Disabilities

International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD),  observed   every year  on 3 December , aims  to promote respect, rights, awareness and equal opportunities for persons with disabilities . The 2025 theme – “ Building Disability-Inclusive Societies to Advance Social Progress ” – underlines the fundamental message that no society can achieve real development without the inclusion of persons with disabilities. The theme builds on the renewed commitments made by global leaders to build a just, equal and sustainable world where every person – including persons with disabilities – can fully participate in social, economic, political and cultural life.

13 Famous Hollywood screenwriter Tom Stoppard passes away

British playwright and Oscar-winning screenwriter Tom Stoppard  has died at the age of 88. Stoppard was renowned for his unique writing style, combining deep wit and wry humor. Born  in Czechoslovakia in 1937  , his family fled to Britain during the Nazi occupation. After completing his schooling, he worked as a journalist and then turned to playwriting. In a career spanning more than six decades, he wrote for theater, television, radio, and film, receiving international acclaim. Stoppard gained international fame with his absurdist tragicomedy, ” Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead .” The play is based on the story of two minor characters in  Shakespeare  ‘s Hamlet. After winning numerous awards, it was also adapted into a film in 1990, starring Tim Roth, Gary Oldman, and Richard Dreyfuss. The film won the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival. Stoppard also made significant contributions to cinema. He  worked on such popular films as   Indiana Jones  and  Star Wars . In 1999, he won an Oscar (Academy Award)   for his screenplay for  Shakespeare in Love .
