1 India re-elected to the Council of the International Civil Aviation Organization

India   has been re-elected to  Part II of the Council  of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) . This election took place during  the 42nd ICAO Assembly Session  held in Montreal  on   September 27, 2025.  It is noteworthy that Part II comprises countries that contribute significantly to international air navigation. This time, India received more votes than in 2022, reflecting the growing confidence among Member States in its leadership and contribution to the global aviation sector. India is a founding member of ICAO and has maintained a presence on the Council for 81 consecutive years, since 1944. India plays a key role in advancing ICAO’s mission of safe, sustainable, gender-inclusive, and balanced international civil aviation. The ICAO Assembly is held every three years and is attended by the 193 signatory countries of the Chicago Convention. The 36-member Council, elected by these 193 Member States, serves as ICAO’s governing body for a term of three years.

2 India’s first central tissue bank established in Delhi hospital

Delhi Government  Health Minister  Pankaj Singh  on Tuesday  inaugurated the cashless Delhi Dental Council office  and  India’s first “Central Tissue Bank  .” Both centers, launched at  the Maulana Azad Institute of Dental Sciences (MAIDS),  have set new standards in healthcare and dental education in the country. The Delhi Dental Council (DDC), which oversees the registration and ethics of dentists in the national capital, has become the first state dental council in India to launch a cashless “V-Office” system. This bank will provide tissue for transplantation to patients, eliminating the need to purchase such material from the market. This tissue bank will provide bone and skin grafts for reconstructive surgeries, making them more affordable and accessible to patients. V-Office introduces a completely digital, cashless system for registration and renewal of dentists, making it the first state dental council in India to offer such a service.

3 The first female cheetah born in India has become an adult.

Mukhi, a female cheetah born in India,   became the first cub born in India to reach adulthood . On  September 30, 2025  , Mukhi turned   915 days  old, marking the program’s first successful transition from birth to adulthood. Born to Jwala , a Namibian cheetah,  in  Kuno National Park  , Madhya Pradesh,  Mukhi  ‘s survival is being considered a significant success amid concerns about high cub mortality and habitat adaptation challenges. Mukhi  was one of four cubs born to Jwala on  March 29, 2023.   Unfortunately, three of her siblings died due to extreme heat, a recurring threat to India’s wildlife conservation efforts. However, Mukhi not only survived but thrived—adapting to local conditions and reaching adulthood. Project Cheetah was launched on September 17, 2022, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi released eight cheetahs from Namibia into Kuno National Park. This was the world’s first intercontinental translocation of a large carnivore, aimed at reintroducing cheetahs to India, more than 70 years after their extinction in the country. In February 2023, 12 more cheetahs arrived from South Africa, bringing the total number of imported cheetahs to 20.

4. RITES Limited and Etihad Rail sign a cooperation agreement.

RITES Limited , India’s leading transport infrastructure consultancy and engineering firm,  has   signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with  Etihad Rail  to strengthen business collaboration in the mobility sector in  the UAE  and  international markets . The agreement was formalized at  the Global Rail Transport Infrastructure Exhibition & Conference  ,  being held  in Abu Dhabi  from September 30 to October 2, 2025. Under this partnership, RITES will work with National Infrastructure Construction Company (NICC) LLC, a subsidiary of Etihad Rail, to explore business opportunities in the region and beyond.

 

5 President Draupadi Murmu presented the Diamond Jubilee Silver Bugle and Flag to the President’s Bodyguard

President Draupadi Murmu  presented   the Diamond Jubilee Silver Bugle and Flag to  the President’s Body Guard (PBG)   at a ceremony held at  Rashtrapati Bhavan . The award was given in recognition of 75 years of glorious service  since its   designation as the PBG in 1950.  She congratulated the PBG for its professional excellence and fine military traditions. The 2022 retired Commandant Charger Horse ‘Virat’ was also present on the occasion.  The President  ‘s Bodyguard adopted Virat after his retirement, a unique symbol of the affectionate bond between the PBG and its horses. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had patted the horse on the back during the Republic Day parade on January 26, 2022.

6 India’s GDP growth rate is projected to be 6.5 percent in 2025 and 2026: ADB

 

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) on Tuesday  released   projections that  India’s growth rate could be 6.5 percent in 2025 (FY26) and 2026 (FY27).  The ADB has lowered its growth forecast for developing economies in Asia and the Pacific by 0.1 percent to 0.2 percent for this year and next, citing fluctuations in the global economy due to tariffs.

7 HQ Integrated Defence Staff celebrates its 25th Raising Day

On  October 1 , Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff (HQ IDS)  celebrated its Raising Day. This marked the institution’s  25th year of service. Established on  October 1, 2001  , HQ IDS was envisioned as a permanent institution to promote jointness and integration within the armed forces. Today, it has become a key hub for coordination between the Army, Navy, and Air Force, and is also playing a leading role in emerging areas such as cyber and space. Over the years, HQ IDS has supported the creation of new joint military structures and made significant contributions to the development of theater-level mechanisms. Prioritizing humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR), HQ IDS has supported national disaster management. The Combined Operational Review and Evaluation (CORE) program, launched in 2025, has enhanced the effectiveness of training and education.

 

8 RBI keeps repo rate unchanged, raises FY26 GDP growth forecast to 6.8%

RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra   announced the decisions of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting on Wednesday  . The central bank  kept the repo rate unchanged at 5.50 percent  . Furthermore, the monetary policy stance remained neutral. Besides the repo rate, the central bank  kept the Standing Deposit Facility (SDF)  unchanged at 5.25 percent, while  the Marginal Standing Facility (MSF)  remained unchanged at 5.75 percent. The RBI had also kept the repo rate unchanged in the August MPC meeting. Since the beginning of 2025, the central bank has reduced the repo rate by one percentage point, including reductions of 0.25 percent in February, 0.25 percent in April, and 0.50 percent in June.

9 Former President of the Republic of Congo Joseph Kabila sentenced to death

 Former President of the Republic of Congo  Joseph Kabila  was  sentenced to death  in absentia on  charges of war crimes and treason  . He  is accused of supporting the rebel group M-23,  which wreaked havoc in the eastern part of the country. The former president denies the charges, calling the case arbitrary and saying the courts are being used for persecution. His current whereabouts are unknown.

10 Yogesh Khatuniya won the silver medal in the men’s discus throw F-56 event at the World Para Athletics Championships in New Delhi.

Yogesh Khatuniya  won   the  silver medal in the men’s discus throw F-56 event at  the World Para Athletics Championships   in New Delhi .  Yogesh,  a two-time Paralympic silver medallist and  Arjuna Award winner , threw a best of  42.49 metres  in his second attempt in the final. Claudiney Batista of Brazil won the gold medal with a throw of 45.67 metres  . Konstantinos Tzonis of Greece took the bronze.

11 World Para Athletics Championships 2025: 16-year-old Angie Nicole Mejia from Colombia sets world record

 At  the  ongoing  World Para Athletics Championships at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi, 16-year-old Angie Nicole Mejia Morales of  Colombia   stunned everyone in   her  very first match . She set a new championship record by clocking 12.34 seconds in the women’s T38 100m event  and won the gold medal. This was Angie’s first World Championship race, but after watching her run, it seemed as if she had been competing internationally for years. Her performance left not only the spectators but also the competitors astonished.

12 International Translation Day observed globally

International Translation Day was celebrated on September 30.  This day is an opportunity to recognize the work of language experts. They play a vital role in bringing nations together, facilitating dialogue, understanding, and cooperation, contributing to development, and strengthening world peace and security. In 2017, the United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution on the role of language experts in connecting nations and promoting peace, understanding, and development. September 30 was declared International Translation Day.

13 Senior BJP leader Vijay Kumar Malhotra passes away

Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)  leader  Vijay Kumar Malhotra  died on Tuesday morning at the AIIMS hospital in Delhi at the age of 93.  Born in Lahore in December 1931 ,  Vijay Kumar Malhotra  was a five-time MP and two-time MLA from Delhi  . He served as president of the Delhi Jana Sangh from 1972 to 1975 and later as BJP Delhi state president twice (1977-80 and 1980-84).
