4. Ministry of Defense to become largest buyer of MSME goods in 2022

Government e-Marketplace  was  launched in 2016  . It is an online platform used for online purchase of goods and services. The main objective of Government e-Marketplace (GeM) is to increase transparency, promote Atmanirbhar Bharat and support small and local sellers. Recently, GeM tweeted that in 2022,  Ministry of Defense  to  procure maximum from MSME vendors  . In 2022, the Ministry of Defense envisages procurement of goods and services worth Rs 16,747 crore from the MSME sector. This was 250% more than the purchases made in 2021. Among all  the states, Uttar Pradesh  procured the maximum. Uttar Pradesh procured goods and services worth Rs 9,642 crore through GeM.

5. School students in Bhopal broke the world record by making Agribot

 On the third day of the  India International Science Festival (IISF)-2022 , 1600 school students  from  Madhya Pradesh  and other states of the country have  set a  new world record by making 1484 robots for agricultural works  simultaneously and at one place   while working on  robotic technology . This robot   has been named Agribot . This achievement of school students made  Guinness World Record Enrolled in. On August 11, 2019, the children of Hong Kong’s Robot Institute made a robot walk together, breaking that record in Bhopal, a new record has been created. Under the activity, 1484 school children have registered their name in the Guinness Book of World Records by preparing Agribot together. Everything that goes into the making of this Agribot is ‘Made in India’. Farming works such as sowing, irrigation, harvesting and threshing can also be done with this Agribot.

6. India’s Gaganyaan mission in the year 2024

 In the closing session of the  8th India International Science Festival (IISF)-2022 , Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO)  Chairman  Dr. S. Somnath  were present. The Government of Nagaland  and  Patanjali Foods Limited  have   signed a letter of intent for cultivation and processing of oil palm in Nagaland under the National Edible Oil Mission – Oil-Palm . The letter of intent was signed by M. Ben Yanthan, Director, Agriculture, Nagaland, and Subhash Bhattacharjee, Head, Palm Oil, Patanjali Food Ltd. North East Region, at the Directorate of Agriculture in Kohima. According to Patanjali Foods Limited, the signing of the letter of intent will give a boost to palm oil producers in Nagaland. Patanjali Foods Limited is operating in the North East in Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Tripura.

10. Genus Power bags orders worth over Rs 2,850 crore

Genus Power Infrastructure Limited  and its 100 per cent subsidiary  Hi-Print Metering Solutions Pvt Ltd have received Letter of Award ( LoA) worth Rs 2,855.96 crore   for the appointment of Advanced Metering Infrastructure Service Provider (AMISP)  . This includes design of 29.49 lakh smart prepaid meters, DT metering, HT and feeder metering level energy accounting, and AMI system along with supply, installation and commissioning of FMS of these 29.49 lakh smart meters.

11. Indian Army conducts military exercise “Trishakari Prahar” in North Bengal

 A joint training exercise “ Exercise Trishatri Prahar ” was conducted in North Bengal from 21 Jan to 31 Jan 2023 . The objective of the exercise was to practice the combat preparedness of the security forces using latest weapons and equipment in a networked, integrated environment, involving all arms and services of the Army, Indian Air Force and CAPFs. The exercise culminated with the Integrated Agni Shakti Exercise at Teesta Field Firing Ranges on 31 January 2023.

23. Oldest known caecilian fossil discovered

 A team  of paleontologists from the US  discovered the first Triassic-era (  about  250–200 MYA) caecilian fossils . This discovery may help fill a gap of at least 87 million years in the known historical fossil record of the amphibian-like creature. The fossil has been named Funcusvermis Gilmorei. These are the oldest discovered caecilian fossils, extending the small mammal record by about 35 million years. Prior to this discovery, only 10 caecilian fossils from before the Early Jurassic period (~183 MYA) had been discovered. Modern caecilians are limbless amphibians with cylindrical bodies with a compact, bullet-shaped skull, which help dig in the ground. They spend their lives in leaf-litter or soil in search of insect prey. The Triassic period is the first period of the Mesozoic era which marked the beginning of major changes such as distribution of continents, development of life etc. At the beginning of the Triassic, only the supercontinent—Pangaea—existed, although the theory of plate tectonics came into vogue at the end of the Triassic.

24. Scientists discovered a new species of wasp
