Many Governors, Chief Ministers, Union Ministers, eminent personalities and various groups are joining the campaign. Cleanliness drive will be carried out on 75 beaches across the country , with 75 volunteers per kilometerwill be included. Help will be taken from the people to remove 1500 tonnes of garbage, mainly single-use plastic, from the beaches. Globally, “International Coastal Cleanup Day” is observed every year on the third Saturday of September. The objective of International Coastal Cleanliness Day is to raise public awareness about the accumulation of litter on oceans, beaches and its negative effects. Swachh Sagar, Surakshit Sagar Abhiyan is the first of its kind in the world and the longest running coastal clean-up campaign with the largest number of people participating. Through this campaign, the objective of massive behavior change among people is to raise awareness about how the use of plastic is destroying marine life. A mobile app to spread awareness about this campaign and to register the general public for voluntary participation in beach cleaning activities.
