The Indian Air Force  has   tested state-of-the-art indigenous mobile medical aid, Bhishma Cube,  for   in-flight  emergency landing-airdrop at Agra . Union Health Minister  Mansukh Mandaviya  said that this technology will be helpful in providing medical aid in any emergency situation. The Bheeshma program is a part of the Bharat Swasthya Initiative. It  can be used to treat about  two hundred injured people. The portable hospital was lowered to the ground by a set of two parachutes from a distance of more than 1500 feet from the aircraft. The cube-shaped hospital was ready in just 12 minutes. It is waterproof and extremely light. In this, 200 people can be treated simultaneously. This is the first indigenous portable hospital. It can also be taken anywhere with the help of a drone. This hospital can be prepared in air, land or sea.

2 AIIMS New Delhi signs MoU with University of Bolton Institute of Medicine to collaborate in the field of pharmaceutical research, innovation and education

All India Institute of Medical Sciences-AIIMS  New Delhi  has   signed an MoU with the University of Bolton Institute of Medicine  to  collaborate in the field of pharmaceutical research, innovation and education . AIIMS said in a press release that this MoU was signed through a virtual program by the executive officers of both the institutions. It said that this partnership will enable various initiatives like staff and student exchanges, academic conferences and associate degree programmes. Welcoming this agreement, AIIMS Director Professor M. Srinivas said that this MoU will be helpful for the institutes in addressing global challenges and sharing expertise with the world.

3 Periodic Labor Force Survey (PLFS) – Quarterly Bulletin for January-March 2024

The unemployment rate (UR) in urban areas   for persons  aged 15 years and above  declined from 6.8 per cent to 6.7 per cent during January-March 2023 to January-March 2024. Female UR declined from 9.2 per cent in January-March 2023 to 8.5 per cent in January-March 2024. The labor force participation rate (LFPR) in urban areas for persons aged 15 years and above increased from 48.5 per cent to 50.2 per cent during January-March 2023 to January-March 2024, respectively. The female labor force participation rate in urban areas increased from 22.7 per cent to 25.6 per cent during January-March 2023 to January-March 2024, reflecting an overall increasing trend in the LFPR. The worker population ratio (WPR) for persons aged 15 years and above increased from 45.2 per cent in January-March 2023 to 46.9 per cent in January-March 2024. Female worker population ratio in urban areas increased from 20.6 per cent to 23.4 per cent during January-March 2023 to January-March 2024, showing an overall increasing trend in the WPR.

The country’s biggest skills competition – The-India-Skills-2024   started in New Delhi . 5 New law against violence against women in the European Union

The European Union  has   passed its first law aimed at combating  violence against women  . The law mandates all EU member states to criminalize practices such as female genital mutilation, forced marriage and online harassment. Despite unanimous agreement on the need for the law, disagreements arose regarding a common definition of rape. Despite this, the law is an important step forward in protecting women’s rights in the EU.

6 First set of citizenship certificates issued after notification of Citizenship Amendment Act 2024

The first set of citizenship certificates  has been issued  after the notification of  the Citizenship-Amendment Act 2024 . Union Home Secretary  Ajay Kumar Bhalla  handed   over citizenship certificates to  14 applicants   in  New Delhi . According to the Home Ministry, certificates with digital signatures are being sent to many other applicants through e-mail. These applications  were received from people of Hindu, Sikh, Jain, Buddhist, Parsi and Christian communities  from  Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan who had entered India till 31 December 2014.

8 SBI becomes first TCM member in IIBX

State Bank of India (SBI)  has announced that it  has become the first bank  to become  a Trading Cum Clearing (TCM) member  at  the India International Bullion Exchange (IIBX) . This enables the IFSC Banking Unit (IBU) of SBI to trade on the IIBX platform as the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has permitted IBUs to import gold through bullion exchange through IIBX as Special Category Customers (SCC). are permitted to act as trading members and clearing members. This move is likely to increase the trading volume of gold and silver at IIBX as well as bring transparency and efficiency in India’s bullion market. Regulated by the International Financial Services Centers Authority (IFSCA), IIBX GIFT-City is India’s first bullion exchange set up in an IFSC.

9 UN bodies suspend recognition of NHRC

The Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI),  based in  Geneva and  affiliated with  the United Nations (UN),  has   postponed the recognition of   India’s  National Human Rights Commission (NHRC)  for the second consecutive year . The decision may affect India’s voting rights in the Human Rights Council and some UNGA bodies. GANHRI grants A-status to institutions that meet certain criteria of independence and effectiveness in protecting human rights. Since the beginning of the accreditation process for NHRIs in 1999, NHRC has been accredited with A-status, which it retained even after suspension in 2006, 2011 and 2017. However, the A-status of India’s NHRC was suspended for two consecutive years in the years 2023 and 2024.

10 Dilip Sanghani becomes President of IFFCO

The elections held at the corporate office of  Indian Farmers Fertilizer Cooperative (IFFCO)  in New Delhi  saw Dilip Sanghani  elected as the President and Balveer Singh as the Vice President of IFFCO. 11 Dr. Soumya Swaminathan awarded honorary doctorate by McGill University

Dr. Soumya Swaminathan, a  globally  renowned leader in public health and infectious diseases,  has been named among 10 extraordinary individuals to receive an honorary degree   from  Canada  ‘s prestigious  McGill University during  the Spring 2024 Convocation  . Swaminathan, 65,  has had an illustrious career spanning over 40 years in clinical care and research  . She  joined the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2017  as Deputy Director-General (Programmes) and was appointed as the organization’s first Chief Scientist in March 2019, a role she will hold until the end of 2022 amid the COVID-19 pandemic. 12 Reliance Capital acquisition: Hinduja Group’s IIHL gets IRDAI nod

Insurance sector regulator IRDAI  has given approval to Hinduja Group  for the acquisition of   debt-ridden  Reliance Capital . Hinduja Group’s  IndusInd International Holdings Limited (IIHL)  will acquire Reliance Capital. This deal will have to be completed by May 27, 2024. In July last year, IIHL had made a bid of ₹9,861 crore to acquire Anil Ambani’s Reliance Capital, which was later approved by the administrator. The bid also received support from creditors, with 99% of the votes cast in favor of the bid.

13 Collaboration in Research and Conservation of Sharks and Rays in the Arabian Sea: India-Oman Joint Initiative

In a significant step to boost  research and conservation efforts   related to  sharks and  rays  in  the Arabian Sea , India and Oman  are set to launch a joint initiative. The objective of this collaboration is to enhance understanding, promote conservation and facilitate capacity building in elasmobranch research with a special focus on the Arabian Sea region. An upcoming workshop, to be organized at the ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI), will mark the beginning of this collaborative effort. This workshop, jointly organized by CMFRI and Oman Center for Marine Sciences and Fisheries, will serve as a platform to initiate collaborative research activities and enhance expertise in elasmobranch research.

14 Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra won gold medal in javelin throw competition Federation Cup 2024

Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra  won  the gold medal in the men’s javelin throw competition  ‘ Federation Cup 2024 ‘   in   Bhubaneswar . 26-year-old Neeraj Chopra struggled in the early stages of the competition as he was in second place after three rounds. But  in the fourth round he  threw the javelin at a distance of 82.27 meters and took the lead in the competition. Neeraj Chopra had participated in the same competition organized in the country in 2021 and won the gold medal by throwing the javelin 87.80 meters. He then won a historic gold medal in the Tokyo Olympics and achieved the title of Diamond League champion in 2022. Neeraj became world champion in 2023 and won gold medal at the Asian Games in China.
