1 Indian cricket team defeated Pakistan to win the Asia Cup

 India defeated Pakistan by five wickets  in the title match of the Asia Cup T20 cricket tournament  . India  won the Asia Cup title for the 9th time . In response to Pakistan’s target of 147 runs, India lost three wickets for just 20 runs. After this, the partnership of Tilak Verma and Sanju Samson took charge of the Indian innings. Tilak Verma played a brilliant half-century innings of 69 runs not out. Shivam Dubey scored 33 and Sanju Samson scored 24 runs. Earlier, the entire Pakistan team was reduced to 146 runs.

2 Indian government appoints first mushroom scientist to head BSI

September 25, 2025 , was a historic day for India’s scientific community   , when  Dr. Kanada Das  assumed   charge as  the 13th Director of  the Botanical Survey of India (BSI)  . He became the first mycologist to head this prestigious institution  . Established in 1890, BSI, under the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change (MoEFCC), is tasked with documenting and conserving India’s plant diversity. Dr. Das’s appointment brings renewed recognition to the importance of fungal biodiversity.

3 Tamil Nadu government constitutes inquiry commission headed by former judge to probe Karur rally stampede

The Tamil Nadu government  has  constituted a one-member inquiry commission headed by  former High Court judge Aruna Jagadeesan  to investigate the tragic stampede at a rally in Karur  ,  which claimed the lives of 40 people.  The incident   occurred during a massive gathering to welcome actor-turned-politician and TVK founder Vijay .

4 Journalist Amshi Prasannakumar wins Agriculture Media Award 2025

Senior journalist Amshi Prasannakumar  from  Mysore  has been selected for  the Hombale Samhitha Harinikumara Alumni Agricultural Media Award – 2025.  This prestigious honor recognizes her outstanding contributions to agricultural journalism, particularly her work in raising awareness among farmers through print and electronic media. The award, instituted by the Alumni Association of the University of Agricultural Sciences (UAS), Bengaluru, will be presented on October 11, 2025, at the Veterinary College Campus in Hebbal, Bengaluru.

5 India’s first AI-based command centre for pilgrims established in Tirumala

Andhra Pradesh  Chief Minister  N. Chandrababu Naidu  recently  inaugurated  the AI-powered Pilgrim Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC)  at  Tirumala  . It is being described as  India’s first AI-integrated command centre  for the pilgrimage ecosystem. The centre will help in accurately predicting crowds at Tirumala  ,  streamline  queue management  , and effectively monitor security and cyber threats  . Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu explained that the facility, located at the Vaikuntam Q Complex-I, integrates advanced cameras, 3D situational maps, and a live dashboard from a dedicated technical team.

6 Anand Piramal appointed Chairman of Piramal Finance

Anand Piramal  has  been appointed the new chairman of Piramal Finance  . The appointment follows the departure of his father, Ajay Piramal, who stepped down as non-executive chairman following the recent merger with Piramal Enterprises. The change was approved at the first board meeting held after the merger was approved by the NCLT (National Company Law Tribunal) on September 10, 2025.

7 Sudhanshu Vats appointed ASCI President, Subramanyeshwar Vice President

 There has been a significant leadership change at  the Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI), India’s premier advertising regulatory body  . Sudhanshu Vats, Managing Director (MD) of  Pidilite Industries Limited , has been appointed as the new Chairman of ASCI  .   The announcement was made at the body’s 39th Annual General Meeting, just in time for ASCI to celebrate its 40th anniversary in October 2025. This appointment comes at a time when the advertising world is rapidly changing and the importance of self-regulation and ethical advertising practices has increased.

8 Kerala: Chief Minister Vijayan releases Raj Bhavan magazine ‘Rajhans’

 In  Thiruvananthapuram ,  the capital of  Kerala , Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan  released  the Raj Bhavan magazine,  Rajhans  . He handed over the first copy to Member of Parliament Shashi Tharoor  . Speaking on the occasion, Governor  Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar  stated that the magazine’s purpose is to present Raj Bhavan events to the public. The Chief Minister expressed hope that the magazine will become a valuable record of historical events.

9 Former Delhi captain Mithun Manhas has been elected as the new president of the BCCI.

Former Delhi captain Mithun Manhas  has  been elected the new president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)  . The names of the new office-bearers were finalized at the Annual General Meeting held at BCCI headquarters.  Manhas, who became  the board’s 37th president  , will replace Roger Binny  . Binny stepped down from the board’s position last month after turning 70.

10 The United Nations reimposed economic and military sanctions on Iran after ten years of lifting them.

The United Nations  has   reimposed  economic and military sanctions  on  Iran after ten years  .  These sanctions were lifted under  the 2015 nuclear deal  . Britain, France, and Germany  have invoked the deal’s snapback mechanism, citing Iran’s continued nuclear proliferation and lack of cooperation. This move comes after Iran suspended an investigation following Israeli and US airstrikes on Iranian nuclear and military facilities in June this year. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has called these sanctions unfair and illegal.
