1 Indian football team’s veteran player Sunil Chhetri announced his retirement, will play his last match against Kuwait on June 6.

Indian football legend  Sunil Chhetri  has announced his retirement  after a distinguished career with the national team  . In a social media post, Mr. Chhetri said that   on  June 6 this year, Kuwait will be played  at  the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata.  the upcoming match against this year will be his last match for the national team. Sunil Chhetri is the current captain of the Indian national football team who played his first match against Pakistan on June 12, 2005. In his playing career, he made a great record of scoring 94 goals in 150 international matches.

IIT  Delhi  has   launched Science Technology, Engineering and Mathematics-STEM Mentorship Program  for  high school girl students . Through this program,   IIT alumni provide advice to schoolgirls to move ahead in life and build a better future . A total of two hundred girl students from Delhi government schools, private schools and Kendriya Vidyalayas had registered for this mentorship program, out of which one hundred girl students have been selected. In this nine-day long workshop, lectures by experts and practical problems will be solved.

There is a relief news for Indian tourists   visiting  Sri Lanka . Now there will be no problem in making payments in Sri Lanka because  PhonePe UPI  has been launched in Sri Lanka, which will enable Indian tourists to make payments easily. PhonePe  announced a partnership with LankaPay  . This will allow the company’s users to make payments using UPI (Unified Payment Interface) in Sri Lanka. UPI and LankaPay National Payment Network will facilitate the transaction. With this, users can make safe and quick payments by scanning the Lanka QR code. The amount will be deducted in Indian rupees based on the exchange rate.

4 America: Cuba removed from the State Department’s list of countries that do not fully cooperate against violent groups.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken  has   removed  Cuba from the State Department  ‘s short list of countries that it believes  do not provide full cooperation against violent groups  . The US State Department said Mr Blinken noted that Cuba and US law enforcement were again working together on counterterrorism and other efforts. The State Department had described Cuba as a country with no full cooperation in 2022. The US and Cuba have agreed to resume counterterrorism law and enforcement cooperation in 2023, the statement said. The State Department, in compliance with US laws on arms exports, maintains a list of countries that are believed to be not fully cooperating in combating terrorism. America   has included North Korea, Syria, Iran and Venezuela in this list.

5 NASA appoints new head for Artificial Intelligence

American space agency NASA  has got  its  first Chief Artificial Intelligence Officer . NASA Administrator  Bill Nelson  on May 12   appointed David Salvagnini as  the agency’s new  chief artificial intelligence (AI) officer . His appointment is effective immediately. According to NASA, this role is an extension of Salvagnini’s current role as chief data officer.

The condition of Slovakia  ‘s Prime Minister  Robert Fico  remains critical.   They were attacked north-east of Bratislava . Defense Minister  Robert Kalink  has said that Robert Fico underwent surgery for more than three hours yesterday, at which time his condition was very critical. Deputy Prime Minister Tomas Taraba has said that his condition has improved compared to before. Slovak leaders, including the president, have called the shootings an attack on democracy. US President Joe Biden has condemned it as a horrific act of violence. The alleged attacker was taken into custody at the scene, but authorities have not yet formally identified him. The broadcaster said that this is the first time that the T20 World Cup will be broadcast with sign language and descriptive commentary. With its help, cricket will be able to reach out to deaf, hard of hearing and sighted fans. With this, Disney Hotstar also became the first OTT platform to make ISL available for live cricket. 8 India provides $1 million humanitarian aid to flood-hit Kenya

The Government of India   has announced humanitarian assistance of one million dollars  to  the Government of Kenya  to deal with  the devastation caused by floods in the country. The devastating floods have killed more than 267 people in Kenya so far, and displaced more than 380,00 people in the country. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, an Indian Air Force aircraft with 22 tonnes of humanitarian assistance and disaster relief material (HADR), which includes basic sanitation facilities and hygiene kits, tents, sleeping bags/mats, blankets, power generation sets, ready meals etc. Yes, it has been sent to Kenya. To provide immediate emergency medical relief to the people of Kenya injured due to the floods and resulting house collapses, the Government of India has also sent 18 tonnes of medical assistance, including essential life-saving medicines and surgical equipment for critical care and wound management. 11 Sikkim Foundation Day

 It is  the 49th Statehood Day  of  Sikkim .  On  May 16, 1975,  Sikkim  merged with India as  the 22nd state . For this, the Parliament had made a constitutional amendment. Sikkim Governor  Laxman Prasad Acharya  has greeted the people of the state on this occasion. He also mentioned the achievements in various fields in the state’s 49 years of democratic journey.  Chief Minister  Prem Singh Tamang  has also congratulated the people of Sikkim and said that Sikkim has made significant progress after merger with the Indian democratic system. International Day of Light celebrates the role of light in various aspects of human life such as science, culture and arts, education, medicine, communication, energy etc. On May 16, 1960, United States physicist and engineer Theodore Maiman created the first working laser at Hughes Research Laboratories in California, United States. To mark this important event, the United Nations Educational and Scientific Organization (UNESCO) passed a resolution in 2017 to celebrate May 16 as the International Day of Light.  The first International Day of Light was observed across the world on  16 May 2018 .

In 2017, the United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution declaring 16 May as the International Day of Living Together in Peace. The first International Day of Living Together in Peace was observed across the world on 16 May 2018.
