Indian Navy  ‘s indigenously built ASW Corvette  INS Kadamat arrived in Port Moresby to participate in  the 50th Independence Day celebrations of  Papua New Guinea (PNG)  . The visit symbolises India’s commitment to strengthen its engagement with Pacific Island countries under the Act East Policy and promote peace, stability and inclusive growth in the Indo-Pacific region, the Defence Ministry said in a statement. Highlights of the visit include INS Kadamat’s participation in PNG’s official Independence Day parade and cultural events, honouring the shared democratic values ​​and heritage of the two countries.

2 PM Modi presented unique gifts to the Japanese Prime Minister and his wife, giving new strength to cultural relations

Prime Minister  Narendra Modi  presented special gifts adorned with a glimpse of Indian tradition, art and craftsmanship to   Japanese Prime Minister  Shigeru Ishiba and his wife with an aim to further strengthen the friendly relations and cultural ties between  India and Japan  during  his two-day  Japan visit . PM Modi has presented a bowl set made of precious stones and silver chopsticks to the Prime Minister of Japan  . This unique set is a confluence of Indian craftsmanship and Japanese food tradition. It  includes  a large brown moonstone bowl, four small bowls and silver chopsticks  . Its design  is inspired by Japan’s Donburi and Soba eating rituals .  The moonstone used in this bowl has been obtained from Andhra Pradesh  , which is famous for its bright aura. Moonstone is considered a symbol of love, balance and protection. At the same time, the base of the main bowl  is prepared on Makrana marble of Rajasthan  and semi-precious stones have been carved in the Patchinkari style. This style is seen in many historical heritages of India including the Taj Mahal. Apart from this, Prime Minister Modi  presented a Pashmina Shawl to the wife of the Japanese Prime Minister in a paper mache box , which has been intricately prepared by the artisans of Kashmir. This shawl is made from the wool of Changthangi goat of Ladakh, which is famous all over the world for its light, soft and quality.

Union Electronics and Information Technology Minister  Ashwini Vaishnav  inaugurated   the   country’s first  tempered glass manufacturing plant in Noida , Uttar Pradesh  .  This tempered glass will be used in mobile devices. This factory has been set up  by  Optimus Electronics in partnership with Corning Incorporated of USA  . High quality tempered glass will be produced in it under the worldwide popular brand “Engineered by Corning”. The products will be supplied to both domestic and international markets.

4 UP: Drone manufacturing company inaugurated in Noida

In order to make the country self-reliant in the defense sector, Union Defense Minister  Rajnath Singh  and Chief Minister  Yogi Adityanath  on Saturday  inaugurated  the defense equipment and  drone manufacturing unitaircraft engine and defense aerospace test facility at the Rafe MFiber factory complex in  Noida  Phase 2  .

5 Government to launch beta version of Adi Vaani for translation into tribal languages

The government  is set to launch the beta version of Adi Vani ,  India’s first AI-powered translator  for  tribal languages  . The Ministry of Tribal Affairs said that this translation tool will be a step towards inclusive tribal empowerment and preservation of India’s rich linguistic diversity. Adi Vani has been developed under the Tribal Pride Year to bridge the communication gap between tribal and non-tribal communities. The project combines advanced AI techniques to protect and promote tribal culture across India. Adi Vani is an artificial intelligence (AI)-based translation tool that lays the foundation for a larger future language model dedicated to tribal languages. The project combines advanced artificial intelligence (AI) techniques with community-driven approaches to preserve, promote and revive tribal languages ​​and cultures across India. In its beta launch, Adi Vani supports: Santali (Odisha), Bhili (Madhya Pradesh), Mundari (Jharkhand), Gondi (Chhattisgarh) Additional languages ​​including Kui and Garo  are being developed for the next phase  . There are 461 tribal languages ​​and 71 specific tribal mother tongues spoken by scheduled tribes in India (Census of India, 2011). Of these, 81 languages ​​are vulnerable and 42 are critically endangered. Many languages ​​are at risk of extinction due to limited documentation and generation-to-generation transmission gaps.

6 Department of Posts partners with MapmyIndia to upgrade India’s digital address system

The Department of Posts (DoP), Ministry  of  Communications has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with   MapmyIndia-Maples   , a provider of  location technology,  IoT  and  geospatial solutions . The collaboration aims to use MapmyIndia’s mapping platform and products to support the development and implementation of Digipins  . The MoU was signed by designated representatives of the Department of Posts and MapmyIndia-Maples at an event held at Dak Bhawan, New Delhi. MapmyIndia will provide base maps for integration into the “ Know Your Digipin ” application, thereby increasing visibility for users and making it possible to create accurate Digipins based on geolocation. Further, Digipin functionality will be incorporated in the Maples application, allowing users to search for locations using Digipins.

7 South Korea passes bill banning mobile phones in school classrooms

South Korea  has  enacted a law banning the use of mobile phones  in  school classrooms  . The move  joins countries such as Australia and the Netherlands  that have introduced similar bans. South Korea has passed a bill banning the use of mobile phones in school classrooms across the country and has joined other countries in efforts to curb social media use among minors. Australia is the first country in the world to completely ban the use of social media by children under the age of 16. The bill, which will come into force in March next year, bans smart devices including mobile phones in classrooms and was passed on August 27, 2025. The move makes South Korea the latest country to ban the use of social media among schoolchildren, with countries such as Australia and the Netherlands also taking similar steps.

8 National Highways Authority of India signed agreement to implement country’s first multi-lane free flow tolling system in Gujarat

 To provide  seamless and barrier-free tolling experience  to the National Highway users, Indian Highways Management Company Limited (IHMCL),   a company promoted by  National Highways  Authority of India has signed an agreement with ICICI Bank  to implement  the country’s first comprehensive  Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) tolling system on  NH-48  at Choryasi Fee Plaza   in   Gujarat  . This landmark agreement was signed at NHAI Headquarters, New Delhi in presence of Shri Santosh Kumar Yadav, Chairman, National Highways Authority of India and senior officials of NHAI, IHMCL and ICICI Bank. The signing of the agreement is a major step towards barrier-free tolling which will enable seamless electronic toll collection through FASTag. Choryasi Fee Plaza in Gujarat will be the country’s first barrier-free toll plaza. Besides, an agreement was also signed with ICICI Bank to implement Multi-Lane Free Flow based tolling on National Highway-44 at Gharaunda Fee Plaza in Haryana.

Thailand’s Cabinet has appointed Deputy Prime Minister Phumtham Vechayachai as Acting Prime Minister following the Constitutional Court’s ruling that removed Patongtarn Shinawatra from office. The decision, announced by Minister Chusak Sirinil after a special Cabinet meeting, also appoints Prommin Lertsuridej as Secretary General to the Prime Minister. Thailand’s Constitutional Court has removed Prime Minister Patongtarn Shinawatra from office on charges of ethics violations just a year after he came to power. Patongtarn, Thailand’s youngest prime minister, is the sixth prime minister from the Shinawatra family to be ousted by either the military or the judiciary or with the support of the military during the country’s two-decade-long power struggle.

10 Neeraj Chopra finishes second at the Diamond League Final in Zurich, Switzerland

World and Olympic javelin throw champion Neeraj Chopra  finished  second  at   the Diamond League Final  in Zurich, Switzerland  , marking his 26th consecutive top two finish in international javelin throw events. Defending champion Chopra started with a throw of 84.35m, then threw the javelin to a paltry 84m in his second attempt. He then committed three consecutive fouls. But in his final and sixth attempt, Chopra  came in  second with a throw of 85.10m  . Each javelin thrower has six attempts. Julian Weber of Germany dominated the competition with a personal best and world-leading throw of 91.51m in   his  second attempt to seal the gold medal early on. Keshorn Walcott of Trinidad and Tobago, the 2012 Olympic champion, finished third with 84.95m.

11 India won the title of 2025 SAFF U17 Women’s Championship

In football India  defeated  Nepal 5-0  at the Changlimithang Stadium  in  Thimpu  to lift the 2025 SAFF U-17 Women’s Championship title . With this impressive win, the Young Tigresses have secured 15 points from five matches and taken an unassailable lead at the top of the table. With the trophy secured, five wins from five matches, 27 goals and no goals conceded, India will now focus on their final match of the championship against Bangladesh. The match – once tipped as a potential title decider – now gives the team a chance to finish the tournament undefeated and underline their status as the undisputed champions of South Asia.

12 India creates history by winning 50 gold medals at the 16th Asian Shooting Championship in Shymkent, Kazakhstan

 India achieved a historic feat at  the 16th Asian Shooting Championships held in  Shymkent   ,  Kazakhstan .  It topped the medal table for the first time in the history  of the championship by winning 50 gold medals  . India’s  total medal tally  rose to 99, which  includes  26 silver and 23 bronze  medals. Host nation Kazakhstan finished second and China third  . India’s  Ankur Mittal  won the gold medal in the men’s double trap event by breaking the world record on the final day. The senior team’s stellar performance included Elavenil Valarivan’s second Asian title with an Asian record score in women’s air rifle. She also won a gold medal in the mixed team event along with Arjun Babuta. Neeru Dhanda won the first Asian Championships gold medal for India in women’s trap. Shift Kaur Samra won her first Asian title in women’s 50m rifle three-position while Aishwarya Pratap Singh Tomar successfully defended her 50m rifle three-position title. Manu Bhaker won three bronze medals, one of which came in an individual event – ​​women’s 10m air pistol.

13 India tops 25th Commonwealth Senior Weightlifting Championship

 India   topped the medal tally  with 13 medals including 4 gold, 6 silver and 3 bronze at  the 25th Commonwealth Senior Weightlifting Championship  held in Ahmedabad  . Indian weightlifters won two medals on the final day, including  Mehak Sharma who  won  the silver medal  with a personal best total lift of  253 kg. At the same time, Lovepreet  Singh   won the bronze medal with a lift of 380 kg in the final of the 110+ kg category .

14 Ajay Babu Valluri won gold medal in Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship

At the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships  held in  Ahmedabad  ,  Ajay Babu Valluri  won the gold medal, and Indian weightlifters continued their stellar performance. In the men’s 79kg category, Ajay Babu lifted a total of  335 kg  to beat Malaysia’s Muhammad Ari (333 kg) and Nigeria’s Adedapo Adeleke (306 kg). With this, Babu qualified for next year   ‘s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow . In the  women’s 69kg category  final,  Harjinder Kaur  won the bronze medal by lifting 222 kg.  Over 300 weightlifters from 31 countries are participating in  the 30th edition of the championship. Earlier this week, Tokyo 2020 silver medallist  Mirabai Chanu started India’s campaign by winning the gold medal in the women’s 48kg category  and also secured her place for the upcoming Commonwealth Games.
