1.Russia begins deliveries of S-400 missile systems to India

In a bid to boost India’s air-defense capabilities , Russia has started the delivery of the S-400 missile system to India. Russia began deliveries for deployment on schedule in 2021. India bought this system in 2018 for US$ 5 billion. India had bought five units of the S-400 system in 2018, for which the first installment of $800 million was paid in 2019. The S-400 is considered the most advanced air-defense system in the world. It works to stop the missile attack of enemies.

2.Sourav Ganguly appointed as chairman of ICC Men’s Cricket Committee

Recently BCCI president Sourav Ganguly, the ICC men’s cricket committee has been appointed chairman. Sourav Ganguly will replace Anil Kumble , who has completed his maximum tenure of three years. The ICC Men’s Cricket Committee is primarily responsible for making decisions relating to men’s cricket and reports to the ‘Chief Executives Committee’. The ‘International Cricket Council’ (ICC) is the global governing body of cricket. It represents a total of 106 members and controls and administers the game (cricket) with the help of member states.

3.VVS Laxman to take over as the next National Cricket Academy (NCA) chief

Board of Control for Cricket in India ( BCCI ) President Sourav Ganguly has confirmed that former India batsman VVS Laxman will be the next head of the National Cricket Academy ( NCA ). Laxman will replace his former batting colleague Rahul Dravid , who was recently appointed the head coach of the Indian team after Ravi Shastri ‘s tenure ended.

4.India’s first grass conservation area inaugurated in Ranikhet, Uttarakhand

Uttarakhand ‘s Almora district of Ranikhet spread over 2 acres of India’s first ‘ grass Conservation Center (Grass Conservatory) ‘ or ‘ Germplasm Conservation Center (Germplasm Conservation Centre) ‘ was inaugurated. The conservatory is funded under the CAMPA (Compensatory Afforestation Fund Management and Planning Authority) scheme of the Central Government and has been developed by the research wing of Uttarakhand Forest Department. To create awareness about the importance of grass species, promote their conservation and facilitate research in the field.

5.M Mukundan wins 2021 JCB Award for his book ‘Delhi: A Soliloquy’

Author M Mukundan won the 2021 JCB Award for Literature for his book ‘ Delhi: A Soliloquy ‘ . The book, originally written in Malayalam, has been translated into English by Fathima EV and Nandakumar K. The novel, published by Westland, is a story about Delhi through the eyes of its Malayali young protagonist. Mukundan also received the award trophy, created by two Delhi-based artists Thukral and Tagra, named as “Mirror Melting” and will receive a prize money of Rs 25 lakh. This is the third translation to win the JCB award in the last four years. The jury for this award included Sara Rai (Chairman), Annapurna Garimela, Shahnaz Habib, Prem Panicker and Amit Verma.

6.Shri Anurag Thakur announces ‘Indian Film Personality of the Year Award’ for 2021

The Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Shri Anurag Singh Thakur has announced that the 2021 Indian Film Personality of the Year Award will be presented by Ms. Hema Malini and Shri Prasoon Joshi.will be given to Ms. Hema Malini is an Indian actress, writer, director, producer, dancer and politician who was born on 16 October 1948 in Ammankudi, Tamil Nadu. She made her acting debut in 1963 with the Tamil film Idhu Saathiyam and later, entered Hindi cinema in 1968 as the lead actress of Sapne Ka Saudagar. Since then till date, he has acted in more than 150 films like Sholay, Sita Aur Geeta, Satte-Pe-Satta and Baghban. Also known as ‘Dream Girl’, Ms. Hema Malini has won several awards for her acting skills. In 2000, he was awarded the Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian honour, by the Government of India. Shri Prasoon Joshi is a poet, writer, lyricist, Screenwriter and communication specialist and advertising guru. He successfully published his first book of prose and poetry at the young age of just 17. He is currently the Chairman (Asia) and CEO of McCain World Group India. Shri Joshi entered Indian cinema in the year 2001 as a lyricist for Rajkumar Santoshi’s Lajja, and since then he has been a part of many highly successful Bollywood films.

7.Smt. Meenakshi Lekhi inaugurates week long exhibition ‘Bharat Mata and Hero of India’ at Lalit Kala Akademi

As part of the flagship initiative of ‘ Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav ‘, the Union Minister of State for Culture, Smt. Meenakshi Lekhi today inaugurated a week long exhibition at Lalit Kala Akademi (National Academy of Art) on 18 November 2021 . Lalit Kala Akademi in association with Kamal Art Gallery has organized an exhibition titled ‘ Bharat Mata and Hero of India ‘. Paintings made by well-known artist Shri Pavan Varma “Shaheen” are displayed in this exhibition.

8.Tamil film Koozhangal selected to screen at IFFI 2021

Tamil film Kujngl (Koozhangal) the 52 International Film Festival in Goa in the Indian Panorama section (Indian Panorama segment) will be displayed. Koozhangal is also India’s official entry for the Academy Award for Oscars . It is the story of the relationship between a drunken, abusive husband and his wife. The story is from their child’s point of view. The 52nd International Film Festival of India will be held in Goa from 20-28 November 2021. The International Film Festival of India is one of the largest international film festivals in India.

9.PIDF’s total corpus reaches Rs 614 crore

The total corpus of RBI ‘s Payments Infrastructure Development Fund (PIDF) is Rs 614 crore.has been reached. The PIDF scheme was launched by the RBI in January 2021 to subsidize the deployment of payment acceptance infrastructure (PoS) in Tier-3 to Tier-6 centers with a special focus on the north-eastern states of the country. . At that time, it was decided that RBI would make an initial contribution of Rs 250 crore to PIDF, with half the fund and the remaining contribution from card issuing banks and card networks operating in the country. Initially, when the scheme was launched, the corpus of PIDF was Rs 345 crore (contribution by RBI Rs 250 crore and Rs 95 crore by major authorized card networks in the country). Now various other authorized card networks (Rs. 153.72) and card issuing banks (Rs. 210.17 cr) have increased their contribution to the PIDF scheme, increasing the total corpus to Rs. 613.

13.White-tailed deer getting infected with SARS-CoV-2

A new study from the US suggests that white-tailed deer are becoming infected with SARS-CoV-2 , the virus that causes COVID-19 in humans. Antibodies in 40% of deer during this studywas found. The testing was done between January and March 2021 in Michigan, Illinois, Pennsylvania and New York state. A similar unpublished study also detected the virus in 80% of deer in Iowa between November 2020 and January 2021. Considering the high level of infections, the researchers concluded that deer are actively passing the virus to each other. Researchers have also identified various SARS-CoV-2 variants. Large numbers of white-tailed deer in North America became infected with the virus because they often live in close proximity to people, giving the virus an opportunity to transmit the virus between the two species. People often become involved in wildlife management operations, recreation, field research, tourism and hunting. However, it is also being suggested that water sources contaminated with the Kovid-19 virus may provide a route of transmission.

14.PM Modi to inaugurate meeting of presiding officers in Shimla

15.Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur presented the SAI Institutional Awards

The Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Shri Anurag Thakur, presented the first ever SAI Institutional Awards to 246 athletes and coaches in New Delhi . During the ceremony at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, a total of 162 athletes and 84 coaches have been conferred with the Outstanding Award and Best Award category for their performance in National and International competitions, with a total cash prize of Rs 85.02 lakh. The awards have been given for exceptional performance of SAI athletes and coaches in national and international competitions since 2016 under various sports promotion schemes. The inaugural awards have been presented to the deserving candidates for the years 2016-17, 2017-18, 2018-19 and 2019-20.

Delhi, Kolkata and Mumbai are among the top ten most polluted cities in the world , according to data from the Switzerland- based climate group IQAir ‘s Air Quality and Pollution City Tracking Service . Delhi tops with an AQI of 556, followed by Kolkata and Mumbai with an AQI of 177 and 169, at the fourth and sixth positions respectively. The cities with the worst AQI index include Lahore in Pakistan and Chengdu in China .

18.National Epilepsy Day: 17 November
