1.Rafael Nadal creates history with 10th French Open title :-

Rafael Nadal raced off to a crushing 6-2, 6-3, 6-1 win over Stan Wawrinka in two hours and five minutes for his tenth French Open title and add his name to history books.

In the process, he continued his winning streak in French Open finals to ten with the only time he’s not won the title coming in 2009 (losing in fourth round to Robin Soderling), 2015 (losing to Novak Djokovic in quarterfinal) and last year retiring early due to a wrist issue.

 

2.Lalu for coalition at Centre :-

Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad Yadav turned 70 on Sunday and wished for a Bihar-like secular grand alliance at the Centre too.

Amid a stream of visitors, non-stop phone calls and intermittent Twitter messages, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar too turned up to greet Mr. Prasad and recounted his political contribution to the State.

 

3.Maharashtra govt announces blanket loan waiver, farmers call off protest :-

Clearing the decks for an end to the ongoing agitation by farmers in the state, the Maharashtra government Sunday announced a blanket loan waiver, the largest ever, to provide immediate relief to 31 lakh farmers.

This is a clear departure from its earlier position that loans of only small and marginal farmers will be considered. The government also agreed to raise the price of milk.

 

4.Iran sends food to Qatar amid Gulf dispute :-

Iran’s flag carrier is flying vegetables to Qatar after Arab nations cut land, sea and air routes to the energy-rich Gulf nation.

Iran Air spokesman Shahrokh Noushabadi told The Associated Press that a sixth planeload of vegetables will head to Qatar on Sunday.

He said 90 tons of vegetables already have been sent.

Mr. Noushabadi tells the AP the flights “will be continued based on demand.”

 

5.Kisan bazar to fair price: In Madhya Pradesh, Shivraj Singh Chouhan reaches out with promise to unmask shaitan, haivan :-

Announcing that peace had returned to Madhya Pradesh following appeals made by families of those killed in police firing in Mandsaur and his own decision to go on a fast, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan called off his 28-hour fast at the Dussehra Maidan in Bhopal on Sunday.

Making a slew of announcements before hundreds of farmers, Chouhan said a high-level probe will be ordered to establish those behind the violence in Mandsaur because “they were definitely not farmers but shaitan (devils) and haivan (beasts) who tried to defame Madhya Pradesh and they will not be spared’’.

 

6.Congress to hold protests in Gujarat over Shah’s ‘baniya’ remark :-

Gujarat Congress Chief Bharatsinh Solanki on Sunday slammed BJP President Amit Shah’s remark describing Mahatma Gandhi as chatur baniya (cunning baniya/trader).

Mr. Solanki also announced that the party would hold statewide protests to demand an apology from Mr.

Shah for the “disparaging remark”.

“Mr. Shah’s remark about the Father of the Nation shows his mentality,” Mr Solanki said, addressing media persons on Sunday.

 

7.After securing victory in MCD polls, Delhi BJP eyes on Assembly elections :-

It was 8.15 am on the last day of November, 2016, when the phone rang in Manoj Tiwari’s North Avenue residence.

It was the party high command calling to inform him that he will now lead the Delhi unit of the BJP, more than three years after he officially joined the party as its ‘star campaigner’.

Tiwari, arguably India’s most popular Bhojpuri star, with thousands of songs and over 70 films to his credit, was brought on to perform hit songs for potential voters at election rallies across the Hindi-speaking belt.

 

8.“Centre’s GST audit steps may add to compliance burden” :-

The mandatory audit provisions released by the Government will only add to the cost of and time taken for compliance, according to tax experts.

Under the rules, every registered taxpayer with an annual turnover of more than ₹2 crore has to get his or her accounts audited by a chartered accountant or a cost accountant and provide explanations for any discrepancy between the returns filed under GST and the audited financial statements.

 

9.Theresa May unveils new Cabinet, appoints Damian Green as ‘deputy’ :-

British Prime Minister Theresa May on Sunday appointed her close ally and long-time friend Damian Green as her first secretary of state as she unveiled her new Cabinet after the shock election results threw up a hung Parliament, forcing her to form a minority government.

The prime minister had already confirmed on Friday, soon after the general election results were confirmed, that five of her top-most Cabinet posts will remain unchanged – including Philip Hammond as chancellor of the exchequer, Amber Rudd as home secretary, Boris Johnson as foreign secretary, David Davis as Brexit secretary and Michael Fallon in charge of the ministry of defence.

 

10.Champions Trophy: India drubs South Africa, makes semifinals :-

South Africa’s cricketers resent their reputation for freezing under pressure, but they do themselves no favours.

They were complicit in their own demise again as India produced a commanding performance to storm into the semifinals of the Champions Trophy.
