1.India ranked 46th in EIU’s Democracy Index

According to The Economist Intelligence Unit , India is ranked 46th in the 2021 Democracy Index ‘s global rankings . With the highest score of 9.75, Norway topped the Democracy Index 2021 by Economist Intelligence. The list was published on February 10, 2022. India secured the 46th position in the list with 6.91 points. Our neighbor Pakistan is placed further down in the hybrid regime with a rank of 104.

2.ISRO launched Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle – PSLV-C52 from Satish Dhawan Space Center in Sriharikota

Indian Space Research Organization-ISRO launched its first mission of 2022 Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle – PSLV-C52 from Satish Dhawan Space Center in Sriharikota . PSLV-C52 was launched on February 14 at 5:59 am. Three satellites were launched in this mission. One satellite will be the EOS-04 Radar Imaging Satellite . Its weight is one thousand seven hundred and ten kilograms. It can be used for taking quality pictures of agriculture, forest, plantation, soil moisture, water storage and flood in all types of weather. Simultaneously INS-2TD and Inspire Sat-1 Satellite will also be launched. INS-2TD will carry a thermal imaging camera that will show land and water surface temperatures. Inspire Sat-1 is a small satellite developed by the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology in collaboration with the Laboratory of Atmospheric and Space Physics, University of Colorado. PSLV-C52 is the 54th launch in the PSLV series.

3.17th Mumbai International Film Festival to be held from 29th May to 4th June

The 17th Mumbai International Film Festival will be held from 29th May to 4th June at the Films Division Complex. A special short film category has been created on the topic India@75 under the Amrit Mahotsav of Azadi. Online applications for films can be made from February 15 to March 15. Films completed between September 1, 2019 and December 31, 2021 are eligible for entry into the festival.

4.N Chandrasekaran reappointed as the chairman of Tata Sons

The Board of Tata Sons Private Limited has approved the re-appointment of N Chandrasekaran as the Executive Chairman of the company for a second five-year term . Chandrasekaran’s current term as chairman was to end at the end of February 2022. He joined the board of Tata Sons in 2016 and took over as chairman in 2017.

5.PM Modi expresses happiness on meeting former PM of Kenya after almost three and a half years

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met former Prime Minister of Kenya Raila Amolo Odinga , who is on a personal visit to India . The two leaders shared their decades-old personal friendly ties. Mr. Modi expressed his happiness on meeting Mr. Odinga after almost three and a half years. He recalled several meetings he had with Mr. Odinga in India and Kenya since 2008. Lively Gujarat Conference 2009-2012 was also involved in this.

6.Skill and Entrepreneurship Development University to be set up in Kalyan-Karnataka region

7.Parker Solar Probe takes pictures of the surface of Venus

NASA ‘s Parker Solar Probe took the first visible light images of the surface of Venus from space . The surface of Venus is usually covered with thick clouds. But in two recent flybys, Parker Solar Probe used its Wide-Field Imager (WISPR) to take pictures. The images were combined into one video, revealing a faint glow from the surface, highlighting distinctive features such as continental regions, plateaus and plains. In the atmosphere, a luminescent halo of oxygen can also be seen around the planet. Such images of Venus will help scientists learn more about the surface geology of Venus, the minerals it contains and its evolution.

8.India and Australia set deadline for early harvest agreement

India and Australia have set a 30-day deadline to finalize the Early Harvest Agreement (EHA) , before finalizing a full- fledged free trade agreement between the two . Education will be the focus of this conversation. During this, the two countries will consider mutual recognition of educational qualifications between each other. This will be one of the fastest free trade agreements signed by either India or Australia with major economies. Australia is looking for substantial opportunities in sectors such as mining, education, pharma, textiles and renewable energy. The two countries had set a strict deadline for completing an Early Harvest Agreement for FTA or Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement (CECA) by December 25, 2021.

9.Government continues RYSK scheme for next 5 years

The Central Government of India has decided to continue the scheme of “ National Youth Empowerment Program (RYSK) ” for another 5 years from 2021-22 to 2025-26 with an outlay of Rs 2,710.65 crore . To develop the personality and leadership qualities of youth and involve them in nation building activities. The beneficiaries of this scheme are youth in the age group of 15 to 29 years (as per the definition of ‘youth’ in the National Youth Policy, 2014).

10.TomTom Traffic Index Ranking 2021: Mumbai 5th most congested city in the world

According to TomTom Traffic Index Ranking 2021 , Mumbai has been ranked 5th , Bengaluru 10th in terms of world’s most congested cities in 2021 . Delhi and Pune are ranked 11th and 21st among 404 cities in 58 countries according to TomTom Traffic Index’s global top 25 lists. Istanbul , Turkey ranked as world’s most congested cityhas been declared. While Moscow came second. The ranking includes 404 cities from 58 countries. The report said that India’s congestion level in 2021 was 23% lower than pre-Covid times, with a decrease of 31% especially during peak hours. In 2020, traffic congestion in three Indian metros- Mumbai, Bengaluru and Delhi made it to the top 10 list.

11.SBI ties up with NSE Academy to launch five online courses

State Bank of India (SBI) has announced a partnership with NSE Academy to launch five online courses promoting financial literacy as an essential life skill. The courses curated by SBI are a fine blend of theory and operational aspects which enables the learners to have a deep understanding of the fundamentals of banking, compliance, lending norms and many more subjects. Learners can enroll for SBI’s five inaugural Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) on the NSE Knowledge Hub platform as a part of this strategic collaboration. NSE Academy is a wholly owned subsidiary of the National Stock Exchange of India.

12.45th International Kolkata Book Fair to begin from February 28

The 45th International Kolkata Book Fair will start from 28 February to 13 March . This year the focal theme country is Bangladesh . This year’s theme is Bangladesh due to both the birth centenary of Bangabandhu and 50 years of Bangladesh’s independence . Bangladesh Day will be celebrated on March 3 and 4. The fair was inaugurated on February 28 by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee .Will do The Kolkata Book Fair was recognized by the International Publishers Association, Geneva and also Geneva has included the International Kolkata Book Fair in the calendar of book fairs published by them. Apart from Bangladesh, Britain, America, Russia, Italy, Japan, Iran, Spain, Argentina, Mexico and other Latin American countries will participate in the Kolkata Book Fair.

13.Munishwar Nath Bhandari is the new Chief Justice of Madras High Court

Justice Munishwar Nath Bhandari has been appointed as the Chief Justice of the Madras High Court , according to the Law Ministry . Justice Bhandari took over as the acting Chief Justice of the Madras High Court in November last year following the transfer of Justice Sanjiv Banerjee to the Meghalaya High Court . The Law Ministry also notified the appointment of a total of 13 advocates and three judicial officers as judges of the Andhra Pradesh, Orissa and Madhya Pradesh High Courts.

14.Japan, South Korea and the US declare mutual solidarity against North Korea after testing several ballistic missiles

Japan, South Korea and the United States have expressed solidarity against North Korea’s firing of ballistic missiles . In a statement issued after a meeting in Honolulu , a day after North Korea fired the missile , US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, South Korean Foreign Minister Chung Ae-yong and Japanese Foreign Minister Hayashi Yoshimasa fired seven missiles one after the other. Strongly condemned and described it as creating instability. He said North Korea needs to stop its illegal activities and engage in dialogue. The three leaders reiterated their commitment to denuclearize the entire Korean peninsula.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has paid tribute to Maharaja Surajmal on his birth anniversary. Maharaja Surajmal was born on 13 February 1707 . He was brought up by his father , Raja Badan Singh. Raja Surajmal is credited with laying the foundation of the princely state of Bharatpur . Surajmal built the impregnable Lohagarh fort in Bharatpur, which the British could not shake even after attacking 13 times. The walls of this fort made of mud were made so thick that even thick cannon balls could never cross them. This is the only fort in the country, which has always been impregnable. It was because of this king that Jat power remained at its peak during that time.

Agricultural Products Export Development Authority-APEDA celebrated its 36th Foundation Day on 13th February . APEDA has actively supported the government in increasing agricultural exports, due to which it has increased from $ 600 million in 1986 to $ 200 billion in 2020-21. The Ministry of Commerce and Industry says that APEDA has helped in increasing Indian exports to many countries. In the current financial year, APEDA has been given a target of exports of $ 23 billion 700 million, of which more than 70 percent has been achieved by January 2022.

World Radio Day is celebrated every year on 13 February . This day is dedicated to the importance and impact of radio. Radio broadcasting has a distinct role among the Internet and other means of communication. Millions of people in the country depend on radio for reliable news and entertainment. UNESCO declared February 13 as World Radio Day at the 36th General Assembly in 2011. It was later declared an International Day by the United Nations General Assembly. On this day in 1946, United Nations Radio transmitted the first call sign. World Radio Day was first celebrated in 2012.

20.National Deworming Day 2022

National Deworming Day is celebrated on 10 February to make people aware about the importance of deworming , especially for children in the age group of 1 to 19 years who are most vulnerable. The day was started by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in 2015. The main objective of the day is to raise awareness about intestinal worms and achieve complete eradication of soil-transmitted worms in children. About 24% of the world’s population is infected with soil-infected worms.
