1.ISRO launches earth observation satellite RISAT-2B:-

Indian Space Research Organisation has successfully launched its earth observation satellite RISAT-2B from Sriharikota.  ISRO’s trusted workhorse PSLV-C46 carrying RISAT-2B blasted off from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre at 5:30 this morning. The 615 kg satellite was released into the orbit 15 minutes after the lift-off. RISAT-2B meant for application in fields such as surveillance, agriculture, forestry and disaster management support. It will replace the RISAT-2, which was launched in 2009.Soon after the launch, ISRO Chairman K Sivan said this particular mission is really important in the sense that PSLV has crossed a landmark of launching 50 tonnes into space. He said, there are several new features in RISAT-2B. Dr Sivan said, it is having expanded Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) making it an advanced earth observation satellite, operating in spotlight mode, mode and mosaic mode.

2.EC established 24 hr EVM Control Room at Nirvachan Sadan in New Delhi:-

Election Commission has established a 24 hour EVM Control Room at Nirvachan Sadan in New Delhi. This will monitor complaints relating to polled EVMs.The complaints related to storage issues at strongrooms, security of strongrooms, permissions to candidates to post their agents at strongrooms, CCTV monitoring, movement of any EVMs and any complaints during counting related to EVMs can be informed at control room number is 011-23052123.

3.Oman author Jokha Alharthi wins Booker International Prize:-

An author from Oman has won the prestigious Man Booker International Prize for “Celestial Bodies”, the story of three sisters of a desert country confronting its slave-owning past and a complex modern world.Jokha Alharthi, the first Arabic-language writer to take the prize, will split the 50,000 pounds or 64,000 US dollar purse with her UK-based translator, Marilyn Booth. Historian Bettany Hughes, who led the judging panel, said yesterday that the winning novel was “a book to win over the head and the heart in equal measure.”Celestial Bodies” beat five other finalists from Europe and South America, including last year’s winner, Poland’s Olga Tokarczuk. The prize is a counterpart to the Man Booker Prize for English-language novels and is open to books in any language that has been translated into English.

4.Ukraine ‘s new president to form the Volodymyr Jhelenski the oath taken:-

Volodymyr Zelenski was sworn in as the new President of Ukraine and announced the snap parliamentary elections at the same ceremony.Jelensky has no experience of politics before, but she won a huge victory in the presidential election last month.Zelensky became after the youngest Soviet-President of Ukraine, when he consistently won an impressive election against Petro Poroshenko.

5.ICC announces plans for digital distribution, broadcast of World Cup 2019:-

The ICC today announced plans for digital distribution and broadcast of upcoming Men’s cricket World Cup which will be broadcast live to more than 200 territories. These will provide cricket fans across the globe with the widest range of platforms to tune into the World Cup. Numerous platforms will be available to access the tournament across television, radio and digital platforms, as well as in news, in cinemas, at Fan Parks and via other media rights partners.The tournament will also be broadcast across seven regional language feeds in India. A select 12 matches will be available in Malayalam. All other matches will be available in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Bangla and Marathi. For the first time in history, cricket will be brought to fans in Afghanistan via state broadcaster Radio Television Afghanistan (RTA), who are participating in their first ever World Cup. This coverage will reach approximately 60 per cent  of households or an audience of 20 million.

6.This will be the most challenging World Cup: Virat Kohli:-

Team India Skipper Virat Kohli and head coach Ravi Shastri addressed a press conference in Mumbai today before leaving for England for the Men’s cricket World Cup starting on 30th of this month. Virat Kohli said this will be the most challenging World Cup considering the round robin format of the tournament. He, however, said the good thing  was that there was  a decent gap between every game. Players won’t be burnt out. At the press conference, the Indian skipper said he was not worried about players’ form during IPL 2019 and backed them to step up during the World Cup. The question of who will be India’s No.4 batsman remained unanswered. Kohli said, we have to just focus on our quality and intensity irrespective of the opposition. Shastri said, Dhoni’s communication  with Kohli was great and Dhoni has shown that he is still the best in this format of the game. Kohli said the team was expected to play the best cricket they can. Shastri said the team’s mantra is to be flexible in the last 10 overs.

7.Ashish World Challenge Cup in 3 member Indian gymnastics team ‘s lead will:-

The three-member team led by Asian Games bronze medalist Ashish Kumar will represent India in the second World Challenge Cup Series gymnastics tournament in Oceasec from Croatia from 23 to 26 May.Apart from Ashish, the Indian team will also be Rakesh Kumar Patra and Shraddha Talekar.World Challenge Cup is a major FIF event with a comprehensive participation of 110 gymnasts from 30 countries.
