World Environment Day is observed globally on 5th June every year.It is celebrated every year to spread awareness and to make people understand that they have a role to play in preventing the loss of biodiversity and preserving nature for our future.The day was first observed in 1974 in the city of Spokane in the USA to raise awareness about the importance of protecting the environment.World Environment Day is hosted by a different country. 2.World Economic Forum to host Unique Twin Summit in 2021

The World Economic Forum will host a Unique Twin Summit in January, 2021.The twin summit will be both in-person as well as virtual, hence connecting key global governmental and business leaders in Davos.The theme of the summit will be “The Great Reset”. The summit will bring together the key global government and business leaders in Davos and the Great Reset dialogue will push beyond the boundaries of traditional thinking.WEF will also draw on thousands of young people from more than 400 cities worldwide, who will be interconnected with a powerful virtual hub network in order to interact with the leaders in Davos.

3.India participates in UK-led virtual Global Vaccine Summit

India participated in the virtual Global Vaccine Summit 2020 hosted by the UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson.India was represented by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the summit.The virtual Global Vaccine Summit 2020 featured the participation of over 50 ​countries including the business leaders, civil society, government ministers, UN agencies, Heads of State and country leaders.During the virtual summit, India pledged a contribution of 15 Million US Dollars to Gavi, the international vaccine alliance.

4.J&K L-G launches ”MeraVetan” app for government employees

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Girish Chandra Murmu launched a salary tracker mobile app ”MeraVetan” aimed at providing salary-related information to government employees.The employees will easily be able to access their salary and other details anytime, the L-G said, while adding that this would especially be useful for those posted in remote and rural areas with no access to the drawing and disbursing officers (DDOs).The MeraVetan mobile app has been developed by National Informatics Centre (NIC) J&K.After installing the app, the employees need to enter their centralized personnel information system (CPIS) ID, date of birth, GPF and NPS subscription number.It provides information on pay scale, GPF/NPS subscription, allowances, deductions, GPF/NPS statement, income tax statement, SLI statement, etc.

5.Chhattisgarh govt launches ‘Spandan Campaign’ to check suicide and fratricide

The Chhattisgarh government launched the Spandan Campaign to contain incidents of suicide and fratricide involving police personnel, and instructions were issued to senior officers to strictly adhere to guidelines in this regard.The motive of the campaign is to prevent the force from depression and stress pushing them to take extreme steps.A total of 50 police personnel, including personnel of paramilitary forces, committed suicide in Chhattisgarh over the past two years.As part of the campaign ”Spandan”, senior police officers will visit police lines, police stations and armed forces companies to interact with the personnel to know about problems being faced by them.

6.IndusInd Bank launches mobile based current account opening facility

IndusInd Bank announced the launch of a first-of-its-kind assisted mobile application based facility, that enables the Bank to open current accounts for self-employed individuals and businesses digitally, in just a few hours.Equipped with the Bank’s state-of-the-art ‘Indus Corporate’ mobile app, bank officials can now capture and verify information about customers and their businesses in real-time.With this, customers can now experience a faster and seamless account opening journey with the bank, without the hassle of arranging physical KYC documents of themselves or their firm.

7.Raveesh Kumar Appointed India’s Next Ambassador To Finland

Seasoned diplomat and former spokesperson of the External Affairs Ministry Raveesh Kumar has been appointed as India’s next Ambassador to Finland.Mr Kumar, a 1995-batch Indian Foreign Service officer, served as the spokesperson of the MEA from July 2017 to April 2020.Raveesh Kumar will replace Vani Rao as the next Ambassador of India to Finland.

8.Brajendra Navnit becomes India’s new ambassador to WTO

India has appointed Brajendra Navnit as India’s new ambassador to the World Trade Organization (WTO).He is a 1999 batch IAS officer of Tamil Nadu cadre.He will be posted at the Permanent Mission of India (PMI) to the WTO in Geneva.The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, which approved Navnit’s foreign post, also gave a nod to the appointment of Anwar Hussain Shaik for the post of Counsellor, at the PMI to WTO, Geneva. He is a 2000 batch IRTS officer.

9.Indian writer wins regional award for Asia in Commonwealth Short Story Prize

Kritika Pandey, a writer from Ranchi was announced as the regional winner for Asia in the 2020 Commonwealth Short Story Prize.The 29-year-old writer won for her story The Great Indian Tee and Snakes, which is about two young people trying to navigate the idea of love in an era of hatred and prejudice.The story about a Hindu girl falling in love with a Muslim man had made it to the shortlist for the Asian region.Set up in 2012, the Commonwealth Short Story Prize is awarded for the best piece of unpublished short fiction from the Commonwealth.The prize is given to five regional winners namely Asia, Pacific, Africa, Canada and Europe, and the Caribbean. Each winner receives £ 2,500 (about Rs 2.4 lakh) and an overall winner from among them receives a total of £ 5,000 (about Rs 4.72 lakh).

10.Lyricist Anwar Sagar passes away

Veteran lyricist Anwar Sagar passed away.Anwar wrote many popular songs in the 80s and 90s.He wrote the lyrics of the song “Waada Raha Sanam” for the 1992 film Khiladi, starring Akshay Kumar and Ayesha Jhulka.The lyricist also has to his credit films like Yaarana, Salaami, Aa Gale Lag Jaa and Vijaypath among more.Anwar Sagar also worked with music directors like Nadeem-Shravan, Rajesh Roshan, Jatin-Lalit and Anu Malik.
