1 Justice Sanjiv Khanna sworn in as 51st Chief Justice of India

President  Draupadi Murmu  administered  the oath to Justice Sanjiv Khanna  as  the 51st Chief Justice of the Supreme Court  of India  . Justice Khanna’s tenure will be only 6 months  . 64-year-old Justice Khanna  will retire on May 13, 2025. Before him, Justice DY Chandrachud retired  from this post   on Friday. Born on May 14, 1960, Justice Sanjiv Khanna has had an illustrious legal career spanning more than four decades. Justice Sanjiv Khanna  joined the Delhi  Bar Council as an advocate in 1983, initially practising in the District Courts at Tis Hazari and later in the Delhi High Court and various tribunals. Promoted to the Delhi High Court in 2005, he became a permanent judge in 2006. He played important roles as the Chairman of the Delhi Judicial Academy and the Delhi International Arbitration Centre.  On January 18, 2019,  he was promoted to the Supreme Court of India.

3 Liberal Democratic Party leader Shigeru Ishiba was re-elected as the Prime Minister of Japan

Liberal Democratic Party  leader  Shigeru Ishiba was re-elected as the country’s Prime Minister  in  Japan  . Mr Ishiba was re-elected after securing majority votes in both houses of the Japanese Parliament Diet. After losing majority in last month’s general election, the ruling LDP and Komeito coalition faced a division of votes. This led to a run-off between Ishiba and the leader of the main opposition Constitutional Democratic Party, Yoshihiko Noda. According to media reports, a run-off election took place for the first time in 30 years. Prime Minister Ishiba and the leader of the main opposition Constitutional Democratic Party, Yoshihiko Noda, were in a contest. 67-year-old Ishiba got 221 votes in the House of Representatives. Despite failing to secure the 233 votes required for a majority, Ishiba became the 103rd Prime Minister of the country.

4 Defence Space Agency’s first Space Exercise-2024 begins in New Delhi

 The first  Space Exercise-2024 of  the Defense Space Agency-DSA began in New  Delhi  . The three-day space exercise aims to increase the understanding of space-based assets and services. The Defense Ministry statement said that this exercise is being conducted to understand the operational dependencies between various parties related to the space sector and to identify sensitivities in operations in case of disruption of space-based services. Chief of Defense Staff  General Anil Chauhan  said in the inaugural address that space was earlier considered the final frontier, but now it is playing an important role in India’s defense and security sector.

5 Center approves three projects worth Rs 725.62 crore for fire services in Chhattisgarh, Odisha and West Bengal

On Monday, a high-level committee headed by  Union Home Minister  Amit Shah  approved three projects worth Rs 725.62 crore   for  ChhattisgarhOdisha  and  West Bengal  under  the scheme for expansion and modernization of fire services  in states  . According to the Union Home Ministry, the committee has approved Rs 147.76 crore for Chhattisgarh, Rs 201.10 crore for Odisha and Rs 376.76 crore for West Bengal. Let us tell you that the Union Finance Minister, Agriculture Minister and Vice Chairman of NITI Aayog are included as members in the high-level committee.

 

6 Handwritten manuscript of Indian Constitution displayed at 43rd Sharjah International Book Fair

 

National Book Trust-NBT  has  displayed the iconic replica of the original handwritten manuscript  of  the Indian Constitution  at  the 43rd Sharjah International Book Fair  . The book fair, held from 6th to 17th November, showcases a wide range of Indian literature. The A-3 size copy of the Indian Constitution is certified by the Lok Sabha Secretariat. This copy of the Constitution is presented on high quality paper and is characterized by its utmost clarity. The NBT literature collection displayed at the fair also includes books from the PM-Yuva series. This series of books, on the occasion of completion of 75 years of Independence, focuses on India’s freedom movement and knowledge system.

7 Four-day International Lavi Fair started at Rampur in Shimla district of Himachal Pradesh

 The four-day  International Lavi Fair  started  at Rampur  in  Shimla district  of  Himachal Pradesh . The fair, a symbol of India-Tibet trade relations, was formally inaugurated by Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla  . On this occasion, the Governor said that Lavi Fair has maintained its identity as a trade fair for centuries and is now emerging as a major cultural festival for the state. This fair   is known as a sales center for woolen clothes and dry fruits .

8 Coco Gauff wins the WTA Finals title

Coco Gauff  of   America  defeated  China  ‘s Zheng Qinwen to win the WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) Finals  title for the first time. Gauff   won 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 against  Paris Olympic champion Zheng in the final played late on Saturday night. With this victory in Riyadh,  Gauff earned Rs 40.54 crore. Seed Gauff   entered the final by defeating number-1 Aryna Sabalenka .

9 Veer Chotarani won the squash championship at White Oaks Cup 2024

India’s  Veer Chotarani  has  won the White Oaks Cup 2024 PSA Challenger tournament  of  squash in  Canada   . He won the title by defeating Canada’s number five player Salah Eltorgman 3-0 in the final. This is the most impressive performance of Chotarani, who is emerging in squash. Veer Chotarani defeated England’s Owen Taylor 3-1 in a thrilling match that lasted 43 minutes in the semi-finals.

10 World famous mridangam scholar Varadarao Kamalakar Rao passed away in Rajahmundry

World famous mridangam scholar Varada Rao Kamalakar Rao  passed   away in  Rajahmundry . He was 88 years old. He was awarded the Central Sangeet Natak Academy Award  . He was also awarded the President’s Medal. Kamalakar Rao received countless honors, awards and performed in many radio national music programs and Doordarshan special programs.
