History of National Film Awards 2018 :-
- It was introduced in the year 1954.
- Since 1973, the Indian Directorate of Film Festivals administers the ceremony along with other major film events in India annually.
- It is Administrated by the Indian government’s Directorate of Film Festivals.
- These awards were launched for praising and honouring films released across India, thereby adding to the encouragement of Indian art, culture and Unity of the country.
How does the Event Take Place? :-
- A national panel is selected by the government to select the winning entry. The panel follows specific and stern criteria to qualify a film in the National Awards winners’ list. The award ceremony is held in Delhi every year, where the President of India hands out the awards to the winners.
- Later, the induction of the National Film Festival takes place and all the award-winning movies are screened for the public.
- The National Film Awards are given in three chief categories:
- Feature Films
- Non-Feature Films
- Best Writing on Cinema.
Feature Film -The aim of a feature film is to entertain and is made as keeping the commercial purpose in mind. Its running time is mostly longer compared to a non-feature film.
- Head of the jury – Shekhar Kapur, the famous Filmmaker.
- Regional cinema emerged as winners in most of the categories this year.
- Prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award was given to Vinod Khanna, while the Assamese movie Village Rockstars won the Best Feature Film award.
