1 Mohun Bagan Super Giants won the Indian Super League football title

Mohan Bagan Super Giants  have  won the  Indian Super League football  title. In the final held in Kolkata  , Mohan Bagan  defeated Bengaluru  2-1. Mohan Bagan Super Giants have won this title for the second time. Earlier, they had won this competition in 2022-23.

2 India Global Forum’s NXT25 Summit 2025 held in Maharashtra

India Global Forum (IGF) held  its ‘ NXT25 Summit 2025 ‘ – Leading the Leap   on April 7-8, 2025 at the Jio World Convention Centre  in   Mumbai, Maharashtra  . The summit  was supported by the Government of the United Kingdom (UK) ,  Government of Maharashtra  , and  the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoC&I), Government of India  . The event was attended by Union Minister Piyush Goyal, Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoC&I), and Chief Minister (CM) of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis, along with several other dignitaries. During the IGF NXT25 Summit, the Maharashtra government signed 5 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) worth around USD 50 billion with leading domestic and global investors to accelerate infrastructure development, economic growth, and innovation in the state.

3 Meghalaya’s Ryndia and Khasi handloom products get GI tag for indigenous textiles

 In  April 2025 , the Chennai  (Tamil Nadu, TN)-based  Geographical Indications (GI) Registry  under   the  Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of  Commerce and Industry (MoC&I)  officially granted the Geographical Indication (GI) tag to Meghalaya  ‘s indigenous textiles, ‘ Ryandia ‘ silk and  Khasi handloom products  . The Department of Textiles of Meghalaya spearheaded the initiative with the support of the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) and technical assistance from GI expert Dr. Rajnikant. The Department actively facilitated the joint applications submitted by the Department of Textiles and the Meghalaya Ryandia Producers Association. “Ryandia” is the Khasi name for Eri. Its name ‘Peace Silk’ is derived from the age-old tradition of extracting silk from cocoons without killing the silkworms.

 

India-African countries’ joint exercise against piracy begins

 

India and African countries are participating in   a multilateral maritime exercise ‘ Africa India Maritime Engagement ‘ ( Akyameya ) against piracy and other illegal activities from Sunday. ‘Akyameya’ means unity in Sanskrit. This maritime exercise is being conducted in Dar-e-Salaam, Tanzania  . Countries like Comoros, Djibouti, Eritrea, Kenya, Madagascar, Mauritius, Mozambique, Seychelles and South Africa are participating in this exercise being held from 13 to 18 April between the navies of different countries. The first phase of this exercise is the Harbor Phase which started on Sunday. Many military activities are planned during this phase till 15 April.

5 Skytrax World Airport Awards 2025: Singapore’s Changi named world’s best airport for the 13th time

On 9th April 2025  ,  Singapore Changi Airport (Singapore)   was named  the World’s Best Airport in 2025 during   the  Skytrax World Airport Awards 2025  held at  the Passenger Terminal Expo  at   Instituto Ferial de Madrid (IFEMA)  in Madrid, Spain . This is the 13th time  Singapore Changi Airport has won this title, a record in the history of the awards.  Hamad International Airport (HIA) in Doha  (Qatar)  , a three-time winner of the World’s Best Airport Award, is in second place, and  Tokyo International Airport  (Haneda) in Japan is in third place.   Indira Gandhi International Airport  (IGIA), or Delhi International Airport,  in New Delhi  (Delhi) was ranked 32nd and  also named  the Best Airport in India and South Asia  in 2025.  Kempegowda International Airport (KIA), Bengaluru  (Karnataka)  was ranked 48th  . It has also been named the Best Regional Airport in India and South Asia. KIA’s T2 has received Skytrax’s 5-star airport terminal rating, making it the first airport in India to receive a 5-star rating. Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA), Hyderabad (Telangana) was ranked 56th. GMR Hyderabad International Airport Limited (GHIAL), Hyderabad, which operates RGIA, was awarded the ‘Best Airport Staff in India & South Asia 2025’ award for the fourth time.

 

6 Mauritius became the first African country to sign the Partnership Framework of ISA

 

Mauritius  became the first African country  and  the fourth globally  after  Bangladesh, Bhutan and Cuba  to sign  the Country Partnership Framework (CPF)  with  the International Solar Alliance (ISA), a treaty-based intergovernmental organisation  jointly launched by India and France in 2015.  The signing of the CPF took place during the Global SolarX Accelerator Programme, a two-day event organised by ISA in Mauritius. The strategic partnership was formalised in Port Louis, the capital of Mauritius, by Barkat Ahmed, Regional Programme Head for Africa at ISA, and Jeanette Gunness-Gulbar, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Energy and Public Utilities, Mauritius.

7 Bangladesh signs Artemis Accords with NASA for non-military space exploration

In April 2025Bangladesh   became   the 54th country  to sign the Artemis Accords ,  a set of non-binding agreements established by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) based in   Washington, D.C., United States of America (USA)  in October 2020 to promote  peaceful, transparent and cooperative civilian exploration of outer space  . The agreement was signed by Bangladesh Defence Secretary Mohammad Ashraf Uddin in the presence of Chowdhury Ashiq Mahmud Bin Harun, Executive Chairman of Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) and Tracy Ann Jacobson, Charge d’Affaires at the United States of America (USA) Embassy in Dhaka (Bangladesh). The Artemis Accords are a framework based on the 1967 Outer Space Treaty, the Registration Convention and the Rescue and Return Agreement, aimed at ensuring that space exploration activities are safe, sustainable and conducted in accordance with international law.

8 President must decide within three months on state bills reserved by governors for President’s assent: Supreme Court

The Supreme Court  has said that  the   President  must decide within three months  on state bills reserved by governors for the President’s assent . In a judgment, a bench of  Justices J.B. Pardiwala  and  Mahadevan  said that if there is any delay within this period, valid reasons must be given and shared with the concerned state. The bench  struck down Tamil Nadu Governor R.N. Ravi  ‘s  decision not to give assent to ten pending bills  and ruled that the President should also not take more than three months to decide on bills sent by governors. If no action is taken within the stipulated time limit, the states have the right to move the courts. The court clarified that if a bill is held up due to constitutional concerns, the President should seek advice from the Supreme Court under Article 143. The Supreme Court has said that it is not undermining the office of the Governor by fixing a time limit for his actions under Article 200, but he must act with due respect for the established traditions of parliamentary democracy. Article 200 gives the Governor the power to assent, withhold assent or reserve for the President’s consideration the bills presented before him.

9 Archery World Cup: Indian pair of Rishabh Yadav and Jyothi Surekha Vennam won gold medal

In the compound mixed team event  of  Archery World Cup Stage-1  in  Florida, USA  , the Indian   pair  of Rishabh Yadav and Jyothi Surekha Vennam  has won  the gold medal . The Indian pair won the title by defeating the pair of Huang Zhao and Chen Chih Lun of Chinese Taipei in a thrilling match  . This is the first time that the Indian team has won this competition after the decision to include the compound mixed team event in the Olympics. The International Olympic Committee has   recently decided to include the compound mixed event  in  the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games .

10 Former Lao PDR President Khamte Siphandoen dies

 In  April 2025 , General Khamtay Siphandoane, former President  of  the Lao People’s Democratic Republic (PDR) and  former Secretary General of the Central Committee   of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party passed away in Vientiane, Lao PDR at the age of 102. He was born on February 08, 1924 in Huakhongphayai Village, Siphandoane Province (now Champassak Province), Lao PDR. He was among the first generation of leaders of the Central Committee of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party who led the Lao people in their revolutionary struggle for national liberation.
