1.India vs Pakistan Champions Trophy 2017: Pakistan finally gets the monkey off its back:-

Pakistan entered the ICC Champions Trophy as the tournament’s bottom-ranked side; it left the Oval on Sunday with the top prize.

Fakhar Zaman scored an entertaining, cavalier hundred before Mohammad Amir starred with the ball as Pakistan drew a line under years of hurt, beating India by an emphatic 180 runs in the final.

It had been eight years since Pakistan achieved victory over its southerly neighbour in a global event. Talk about choosing the moment.

2.60% of all east-bound trains ran late in May :-

Rail passengers travelling to the eastern parts of the country from the north were most affected by train delays in May, according to official data obtained by The Indian Express.

The data show that of the 19,450 trains that failed to keep time from May 1 to May 30 across India, around 11,600 — or 59.64 per cent — were in Bihar’s East Central Railway, UP’s North Central Railway and North Eastern Railway, Kolkata-based Eastern Railway and the New Delhi-based Northern Railway.

3.Monsoon to be delayed over Central India :-

The monsoon system, forecast to establish itself over Central India by June 15, will be delayed by a week. This is unlikely to affect the overall rainfall in June.

“There is moisture in the air and thunderstorm along with rain…but the monsoon has been delayed [over Central India] because of strong rain in the east,” D.S. Pai, Chief Forecaster, India Meteorological Department, said.

As of June 17, the country got 79.6 mm of rain, 9% more than the average 72.8 mm it receives in the first fortnight of June. Rain in Central India is, in fact, 21% more than what is normal for this time.

4.‘Cordial’ meeting between Amit Shah, Uddhav Thackeray on President poll :-

BJP president Amit Shah and Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray on Sunday discussed the Presidential election, which sources from both sides said was “friendly and cordial” at a time their alliance has come under some strain.

The 90-minute meeting at Matoshree, the Thackerays’ residence, was attended by Uddhav’s son Aditya, who leads the Sena’s youth wing, and Chief Minister  Devendra FAdnavis.

5.Jammu cops to donate a day’s salary to martyrs’ kin :-

Jammu and Kashmir police personnel will donate a day’s salary for the families of the cops who were killed in the line of duty in the State this year.

Fourteen police personnel and two special police officers have sacrificed their lives in various militancy-related incidents during the year, according to a police spokesman.

Police personnel will donate one day salary for the kin of the martyrs who have sacrificed their precious lives in the line of duty, the spokesman said.

6.Emmanuel Macron’s party wins massive majority in French parliament :-

French President Emmanuel Macron’s centrist party won a massive majority in parliamentary elections on Sunday, early projections showed, dominating the country’s traditional forces in a dramatic re-drawing of the political map.

Macron’s year-old Republic on the Move (REM) and their allies were set to win between 355 and 425 seats in the 577-seat National Assembly, according to partial results after the second round of an election in which many high-profile figures were thrown out.

 7.Kanpur tanneries may be shifted out :-

Officials of the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) will meet Uttar Pradesh government officials to discuss the State’s decision to shift over 400 tanneries from Kanpur.

The previous Samajwadi Party government had told the National Green Tribunal (NGT) in 2016 that the tanneries could not be shifted, for no land was available. The Yogi Adityanath government has reportedly identified fresh land.

 8.Iran fires missiles into Syria in revenge for attacks :-

Iran’s Revolutionary Guard said it launched a series of missiles into Syria today in revenge for deadly attacks on its capital that were claimed by the Islamic State group. The missiles were fired from western Iran across the border into Deir Ezzor province, in northeastern Syria, targeting what the Guard called “terror bases”.

The Guard said, in a statement published on its Sepahnews website, that the missiles were “in retaliation” for the June 7 attacks on Tehran claimed by IS.

“Medium-range missiles were fired from the (western) provinces of Kermanshah and Kurdestan, and a large number of terrorists were killed and weapons destroyed,” the statement said.

9.GJM plans to revive pacifist wing :-

With the GJM gearing up for a prolonged confrontation with the West Bengal government over the Gorkhaland statehood issue, the party’s leadership is planning to revive Gorkhaland Personnel (GLP) — its “peacekeeping” wing.

“The situation is getting worse with each passing day. We feel that a head-on collision is just a matter of time. So we need to prepare ourselves to counter the State government democratically,” GJM central committee member and former in-charge of GLP Colonel (retd.) Ramesh Alley said.

10.Security beefed up at MS Dhoni’s residence after India’s loss against Pakistan :-

After India suffered a dramatic loss against Pakistan in the finals of the ICC Champions Trophy security has been beefed up at wicketkeepers Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s residence in Ranchi.

This move has been taken after considering unruly fan behaviour after the team’s loss in the final.

While local police do guard Dhoni’s house round the year but more force is deployed during high-profile matches and bigger tournaments.

 11.GST return filing rules relaxed for Jul-Aug, July 1 rollout :-

The Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council at its 17th meeting on Sunday decided to increase the room tariff threshold, above which the luxury rate of 28% will apply, to ₹7,500 from the ₹5,000 decided earlier.

The Council also decided to defer the dates of filing the detailed return for July and August.

It also approved the rules for advance ruling, appeals and revisions, assessment, anti-profiteering, and fund settlements. On e-waybills, it decided that the existing system would continue until consensus was reached on the rules.
