2.IISc develops ‘Workplace Readiness Indicator’ for organizations to insulate workplaces from Corona pandemic

A team of researchers in Indian Institute of Science, IISc in Bengaluru have developed ‘Workplace Readiness Indicator’ for organizations to insulate their workplaces from Corona pandemic.It is an online assessment tool developed in collaboration with the Karnataka State Disaster Management Authority for ensuring safe workplaces.The Workplace Readiness Indicator developed by IISc will help plan and establish pandemic-specific policies, procedures and necessary management practices.An organization can enter relevant information about their workplace and the tool developed by IISc will calculate readiness using ten specific indices like infrastructure, precautions, outreach, employees interaction level, transport among others.

3.India’s first infectious disease diagnostic lab now ready

India’s first infectious disease diagnostic lab is now ready.This rapid response mobile laboratory is part of government Atma Nirbhar Bharat.This laboratory was built in a record time of eight days from the date of receipt of Automotive Chassis, from Bharat Benz.It is built with the support of the Department of Biotechnology.The lab is a BSL-2 facility with on site Elisa, real-time reverse tranion polymerase chain reaction (rRT-PCR) test and Biochemistry analysers.This lab can test Elisa about 200 per day and RTPCR about 50 per day.

Minister of State for Home Affairs G Kishan Reddy launched a robot ‘GermiBAN’.The robot carries essentials products to frontline COVID-19 workers.The robot was developed by a Hyderabad-based company, namely AIC ALEAP of the WEHub.The device has the capability of killing 99.9% of surface and air microbes.

5.CBIC launches e-Office application

The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) launched ‘e-Office’ in more than 500 GST and customs offices.It will improve governance by automating the internal processing and handling files.The launch of the new application signifies a crucial change in the internal office procedures that till now relied on manual handling of files and paper movement.The e-Office application, developed by the National Informatics Centre (NIC), helps online file-related work, ranging from receiving and marking dak, operating a file, getting the draft letter ready, its clearance and signature and dispatch of the inked letter.

6.Airtel Payments Bank launches new salary account for MSMEs

Airtel Payments Bank launched a new salary account for micro, small and medium enterprises.Called the Suraksha Salary account, it will enable MSMEs and other organisations to make cashless payments and provide a financial security blanket to their employees.The account has no minimum balance condition.It offers no charges on cash withdrawals of upto Rs 50,000 and deposits of upto Rs 20,000 in one month.The account holder also gets two free cardless cash withdrawal via IMT at ATMs across the country.The account holder can make online money transfers to any bank across India.

7.ICICI Bank launches ‘Insta Flexicash’ paperless overdraft facility for salary accounts

ICICI Bank has launched an overdraft (OD) facility, Insta FlexiCash, for its salaried account customers who are facing a cash crunch.It is designed to protect ICICI Bank Salary Account customers from missing their Equated Monthly Instalments (EMIs) or cheque bounces due to insufficient funds by providing short-term instant credit.Customers can easily avail of this facility by initiating their application online.Insta Flexicash is an end-to-end fully digital facility which can be availed using the bank’s Internet banking platform.The facility can be sanctioned immediately while customers can start using the approved OD limit within 48 hours.The interest payable on the OD is calculated on the basis of the actual amount availed by the customer, not on the full amount of the OD sanctioned.

8.Shambhu S Kumaran appointed India’s next envoy to Philippines

Diplomat Shambhu S Kumaran has been appointed as the next Ambassador of India to the Philippines.Kumaran is presently Ambassador of India to the Kingdom of Morocco.During January 2016-May 2019, he was on deputation to the Ministry of Defence as Joint Secretary (Planning and International Cooperation).

9.Chef Angad Singh Rana won the QualityNZ Culinary Cup 2020

Chef Angad Singh Rana has won QualityNZ Culinary Cup 2020.The award was announced by Cricket legend and Chennai Super Kings coach Stephen Fleming.Chef Angad Singh Rana grabbed the QualityNZ Culinary Cup 2020 alongside INR 50,000 worth of QualityNZ lamb and seafood and a Weber BBQ valued at over INR 46,000.The panel of judges included the heads of the Culinary Association, Chef Davinder Kumar, Chef Salil Fadnis, Chef Jugesh Arora and Stephen Fleming.

10.Senior journalist, freedom fighter Dinu Randive passes away

Senior journalist and freedom fighter from Maharashtra, Dinu Randive passed away.Mr. Randive played a key role in the struggle movement to carve out Maharashtra state called Samyukta Maharashtra movement.The veteran journalist was born in 1925 at a tribal hamlet at Dahanu near Mumbai, he started his journalistic career in 1956.Early this year, he was conferred with the lifetime achievement award by the Mantralaya and Vidhimandal Vartahar Sangh, an association of journalists covering Maharashtra legislature and secretariat.

11.Former New Zealand cricketer Matt Poore dies

Former New Zealand Test cricketer Matt Poore, who is remembered for catching a stray dog during a match in Bangalore in 1955, has died at the age of 90.He was featured in 14 Tests for New Zealand, scoring 355 runs and picking up nine wickets between 1953-1956.He also played 61 Tests for Canterbury and scored 2,336 runs and ended up with 68 wickets.

12.Former Lok Sabha MP, banker Madhavrao Patil dies in Nashik

Former Lok Sabha MP and founder of Janalaxmi Cooperative Bank Madhavrao Patil died after a brief illness.He was a staunch supporter of Sharad Pawar and was among the first to join when the latter formed the Nationalist Congress Party in 1999.Patil had won from Nashik Lok Sabha constituency on a Congress ticket in 1998.
